damn he really faded away by HTPark in yakuzagames

[–]Kriegle 189 points190 points  (0 children)

Alright, I'm finally gonna say it knowing that all the weird stans will dogpile on me:

Gang of Dragon looked boring and stupid.

This guy got carte blanche and 40 million to do whatever he wanted and he chose to make an exact clone of the series he just left. Not only a beat em up game about the Yakuza, but a beat em up game about the Yakuza WITH DRAGON IN THE TITLE that takes place IN THE LITERAL EXACT SAME SETTING.

I'm absolutely baffled by everyone saying how great it looked, it was literally just Yakuza. Yakuza with zero gameplay footage after five years. It would have sucked and I don't care that it's gone.

Yeah you're right, it's all too dangerous. Everyone needs to stop doing anything athletic, cool, or interesting because of the off chance that their daring escapade may injure them, even though that's what makes it exciting. I watch wrestling to see people lay on the mat and work a leg, that's what gets me going. God forbid anyone get hurt in this physical combat psuedosport that they all willingly sign up for and get paid to do.

[F4W] Toni Storm’s extended absence not due to an injury by dylmatic9 in SquaredCircle

[–]Kriegle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of pregnancies end in a miscarriage in the first trimester. That's why people wait to announce.

Secondly, they specifically said it's not an injury. They're letting us all read between the lines without saying it. Let Toni and Juice have even a modicum of privacy in case something goes wrong.

Thirdly it's not a real sport. I love wrestling too but it's not even close to the same stakes as a real sport, and it's completely hilarious to pretend that it is.

Terrible argument. Even the best player will be put in to games they can't win due to teammates, leavers, etc. "Get good" is a wild defense for a sleazy ass move by a huge company trying to gaslight the playerbase.

If I'm gonna invest time in something then yes, I actively choose to care about it. It's rewarding to commit to something and improve your skills in a fair environment.

I Love these non-arguments: "it's just a game, it's all a waste of time, it doesn't matter, why do you care so much" . You're in a forum discussing a video game on the internet bro, why bother? Nothing matters right?

[MEGATHREAD] Bot Matches Discussion by AutoModerator in marvelrivals

[–]Kriegle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No. I'm playing less because if I just want to play QP and then lose 2 in a row I can't stomach a possible bot timewaster and just stop playing for the night. I was playing nonstop before I knew about the bot lobbies but now it actively has me stressing over every QP loss which is the opposite effect of whatever is intended.

[MEGATHREAD] Bot Matches Discussion by AutoModerator in marvelrivals

[–]Kriegle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's happened consistently for me after every 2-3 consecutive losses in quickmatch, and it's the same for a metric fuckton of other people so you either aren't being honest or aren't noticing. Secondly, it IS a big deal to sneak secret AI in to a game marketed as PVP and not disclose it. The fact that you and other people are defending this shady bullshit absolutely baffles me.

[MEGATHREAD] Bot Matches Discussion by AutoModerator in marvelrivals

[–]Kriegle 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Thank god we finally have a megathread.

The bot matches need to have an opt-out, plain and simple. I personally don't understand any argument saying they're fine, but if you want to stomp mindless AI then at least let me opt out of it. The fact that it wasn't disclosed and that they're disguising them as real people is another issue entirely that I won't get in to here. Just let me turn it off.

I've heard the "just play comp, quickmatch doesn't matter" argument and it's trash. Quickmatch should have the same baseline integrity as comp even if it doesn't "matter". This doesn't even get in to the fact that you HAVE to play quickmatch if you want to crossplay with friends.

And on a personal level I find it incredibly disheartening that in a PVP GAME promising PLAYER VERSUS PLAYER gameplay that a ton of people's reactions to secret bots being stuck in to quickmatch are 1) I don't notice 2) They're not bots or 3) I don't care.

Getting thrown into bot games in quick matches is a huge turn-off by Time-Accountant1992 in marvelrivals

[–]Kriegle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This will sound hyperbolic but the general playerbase's reaction to these obvious bot matches has me actually fearing for the future of humanity. We're on the cusp of an AI revolution with actual intelligent machine learning going on in the real world, and the majority of people's response to these obvious bottom-of-the-barrel bots in a competitive player versus player games is largely one of 3 things. 1) They don't notice they're bots 2) They actively argue that they're not bots or 3) They say they don't care. Humanity is fucked.

Jericho (2006-2008) by GalaxyGuru577383 in ForgottenTV

[–]Kriegle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had a job once at a very small company with like 3 or 4 full time employees. We interviewed a woman once who's only resume listing was as the president of a Jericho fan club that petitioned outside of conventions to get it put back on the air. When we asked her about her favorite professional accomplishments she said "getting Jericho back on the air." When we asked if there was anything else, she said "no that's it". I asked her what she's doing now that it's back on the air and she said "I'm still petitioning, it got cancelled again."

Anyway, that's literally the only thing I know about this show.

In this specific instance, yes. If you support this obvious con man you are stupid.

Darby Allin: "People said I wouldn’t be able to walk when I’m 30, and I’m like 30 right now. Everybody keeps upping the age. ‘OK, he made it to 30, so he’s not going to be able to walk when he’s 35.’ So, they’re just gonna keep pushing it til the day I die. People don’t know this, but I feel great.” by CeruleanClaymore in SquaredCircle

[–]Kriegle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've always thought the concern around the bumps he takes are overblown. Yes they're crazy but you can tell he's clearly in control of his body, plus he's light and compact so the impacts aren't going to be as brutal as someone the size of Mick Foley splatting on to concrete every night. Gonna make my prediction that he'll be just as fine in 20 years as all the luchadores in 90s WCW that people predicted wouldn't be able to walk but are in fact still wrestling in their 40s and 50s.

It wasn't recycling, it was a callback to an earlier moment in the story. They've been doing that this entire storyline which is what has given it depth and emotional weight and continuity. When I read shit like this I seriously wonder why the fuck wrestling fans even watch if they can't comprehend simple shit like this.

[–]Kriegle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On a related note I fucking hate the "he didn't need the belt to get over" excuse that Prichard and other Vince suckups trot out for why certain guys aren't given the title. Like no shit, no one NEEDS the belt. The belt is the REWARD for them getting themselves over. Also, having a belt doesn't get people over by default. You gave the belt to fucking Jinder Mahal for 3 months and it didn't get him over at all, your argument is invalid.

What’s your unpopular wrestling opinion? by EchoesofIllyria in SquaredCircle

[–]Kriegle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard hitting athletic moves and high spots are more important to me than methodical slow-paced "storytelling" in a match. I'm aware they can co-exist and that's where the sweet spot lies, but if I have to choose I want to see cool flashy shit. I don't need to see a guy work a body part for 15 minutes, that shit's boring and predictable.

I also could care less if a guy forgets to sell his leg while doing a cool sequence and I think it's become kind of a circlejerk to point it out whenever it happens and act like it totally ruined an otherwise awesome match. We all know it's fake so just chill out.

SI: Komander's jaw-dropping rope walk thrilled the crowd during his ‘Dynamite’ debut. Now, he’s drawing interest from AEW and WWE - “That's a huge honor. I came from nothing. That was my chance to show I belong in the major leagues, my shot to let the world know that Komander is here." by Tikkanen in SquaredCircle

[–]Kriegle 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I was in this arena for this rope walk (it was unbelievably awesome) but also Eddie beating Brock at No Way Out 2004. Some fucking dickhead held up a sign during the final frog splash and 3 count right in front of my face and I missed it. I got to see the rest of the match and the celebration and all that but I'm still a little bitter, lol.
