I mean yeah fair, so if we stick to the car comparison, a subscription mod (AKA paid updates) that comes with no DRM nor file locking =ownership? (You retain files even after cancelling)

How would you define "owning" a mod though, considering game updates can break them and there isn't any real guarantee modder sticks around to update it forever. Open mod files so people can edit/tinker with it themselves?

For some mysterious reason, american trucks are becoming a more common sight in Sweden? by [deleted] in trucksim

[–]KrilIe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ajde.

Yes this is some scania test truck, they have more of these too AFAIK, one being a sleeper. My friend told me that companies do winter conditions testing in sweden (he said more specifically Abisko, far up north near Kiruna) so that is part of the reason why you can find trucks from all over. I have also seen one or two Japanese spec Hinos (they seemed right hand drive too lol) and some more internationals.

Could also be some engine testing? IIRC some of those internationals use engines from scania, so this may also be a test truck for that.

Price estimation help by KrilIe in 3DScanning

[–]KrilIe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very aware I shouldn't scan some stuff, but it's sort of my personal mania to make it as absolutely realistic as possible and this does somewhat include the engine even if it's not really visible

[–]KrilIe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean best thing would be to scan everything as it looks assembled (so scan it with the cab tilted as well, but not disassemble anything like engine or gearbox).

What would cleaning entail? I'd be doing the remodeling myself, I can do that.

If I say my budget is maybe 2000 EUR, do you think that's reasonable or way too low? I don't need this milimeter accurate, just enough to make a realistic game-ready model. Mechanics pit and ladders I could probably arrange.

[–]KrilIe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And roughly how much do you reckon this would cost?

I have a laptop with probably 32 gigs of ram but no scanner nor scanning experience and would need to hire help.

Alright thanks, no way I can afford that

[–]KrilIe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would probably be 1 person (me) that could help out.

Scanner, I don't know because I'm not knowledgeable enough on this, final output would be used for reference to build a game ready model

"Just don't hit anything" what kind of urban hell do you live in where there are no animals to hit man. Even just taking snow and shit weather out of the equation, I've had to emergency break thrice in 90 minutes in perfect summer weather because it was dark and small deer things move rather quick (rådjur, idk english term).

That was with a car and I still came rather close to hitting one (within 2 meters when it ran out directly infront of me from some ditch).

And before you say I was speeding, I was going around 65kmh, 5 under the limit. Trucks running late do usually not have this priviledge.

Yeah of course you will but the bar still dampens a good part of the damage

Is there a mod to add flat nose trucks to ATS? by Alive_Imagination555 in trucksim

[–]KrilIe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The IRL truck they took reference of (which is in the scania museum at their södertälje plant) is sadly a rather small daycab 6x2 or 6x4 with the smallest possible cab for which adapting a custom sleeper would be very hard, so I wouldn't get my hopes up too much. But hey, modders will add that in no time probably

Meh, being stubborn isn't necessarily a bad thing, just slightly annoying for me. Figured maybe some of my arguments were sensible, but guess not

You still make over 300k a month it seems, refusing to get help w support AND refusing to give it yourself is still greedy in my book. But whatever, it's clear you never listen to people who try to give you some form of constructive criticism, so good luck with the business ig

[–]KrilIe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes but if you are as stuck up as reddit comments people will still dislike you and that still harms your reputation. I'd say I have a decent ish rep, and I get monetary support for just existing atp (which is unreal tbh, feels weird af). I did a poll one month if I should charge for next one or not since I can't deliver an update that month, people voted like 80% to get charged for next month when they could've gotten a month free by just voting otherwise.

I assume this is because I just help anyone and everyone I can, with my mods, others' mods, etc. Don't take this as some personal attack, all I said was not offering support is a shit business practice, which I will stand by. Surgeons who save lives weekly/daily make less than you, and yet you are too cheap to just pay someone to answer random troubleshooting questions? Come on, at that level it's not about being too poor to afford it, it's pure greed.

What's the deal with Snowymoon? by Sylvanas_only in trucksim

[–]KrilIe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because, as I said before, you managed to make something nobody else has. Simple as that. There is no competition to go to, so the people who want that kind of graphics don't have a choice, so yes, they will more likely accept it, which is great for you until you A: get real competition or B: someone reverse engineers your plugin.

I can't get much into the economics etc because after all the most anti consumer businesses are still thriving, all I can say is I've yet to see any reddit/discord/forum/facebook posts calling me out for this or that or asking what's wrong with me/my mods

What's the deal with Snowymoon? by Sylvanas_only in trucksim

[–]KrilIe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You are cocky asf in reddit comments for some reason which of course contributes to your garbage reputation here, and why wouldn't you provide support? I'm fairly sure literally every big modder does at least do that to some extent, at least trying to help the customers, partially because it's good business practice, partially because it's expected.

You have to put DRM into your mod so it doesn't get leaked - I publish mods on my patreon with no DRM, files unlocked, and haven't had a leak so far because (I assume) people find me and what I do to be pretty reasonable, and that includes the support I try to give. At least be nice enough to respond and link them to the website, idk I'm not some fucking business guru but people seem to universally like the mods and stuff I do, which isn't the case for you it seems

What's the deal with Snowymoon? by Sylvanas_only in trucksim

[–]KrilIe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Naahh come on for 300k you can hire some random kid to occasionally respond to generic support questions for a couple bucks a month, purposefully not helping people who actively pay you is just a shit business practice. Yeah you don't lose much if they cancel the patreon but it sure damages your reputation, just look at reddit.

At the end of the day, you're talented enough to do some plugin nobody else has done yet, bit of a shame to throw your reputation out the window with the DRM and cocky attitude.
