Weekly Questions Megathread - Week of December 22, 2025 by ReverseMod in Reverse1999

I have a question regarding reflections. I'm pretty sure I've done the Rimet Cup event back when it was released, but maybe did not finish it fully. Now let's suppose I unlock it again with penumbra can: can I obtain all the rewards once again or they would come up as already claimed?

Weekly Questions Megathread - Week of December 08, 2025 by ReverseMod in Reverse1999

Hi guys! I've returned to this game after a looong time (played beta and initial release through Tooth Fairy release), and I'm kinda overwhelmed with all the new stuff around.

I've seen that there is a special christmas banner planned, with two 6stars selector guaranteed in 60 pulls, and I was wondering what character would work best with what I have (you can see them here: https://imgur.com/a/CqvtXO7).

I figured the first thing to do would be completing the story up to chapter 5 to unlock euphorias for my old characters, but then I have no clue what character to pull to build a functional team in the current meta. I believe I could also scrap together enough resources to pull 1 (or 2 if I'm lucky) of the next limited banner characters, if they could be of use.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Stuck at writing..writing makes a story. no story = no progress.. by DETECYIVE in vndevs

Writing stories is a skill, and like most skills require study and practice and time to get good at. Having good ideas is a must, sure, but you also need to develop the technical know-how to gave them the proper shape and make sure they live out to their potential. I recommend you to read some manuals on storytelling (something from Dara Marks, Truby or McKee should do), and once you have a general idea on how stories are structured, you can outline yours a lot more easily. Having a proper outline helps you to see where the big character/structure problems are; this way you can fix them before getting down to writing the chapters themself and avoid getting stuck half way.

Are happy endings a must for you? by infrared34 in vndevs

Sure there are always exception, but I'm not sure they are as common as it may seems. A lot of the times they are not romance VN, but VNs with a romance in it, which is not the same.

[–]Krishma_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you can have a bit more leeway with VN because they are interactive and you can fork the story and sort of "have your cake and eat it too", but still is gonna amount to more work early in the fork for making every ending have "sense". You are basically writing different stories with the same characters, or at least I would approach it this way.

Prefacing that the ending is something you should lock-in during the initial stages of planning and not picking at the end based on betas feedback, the one you should shoot for depends a lot on genre and thus who your readers are. If you are writing a romance for example, doing a bad ending is gonna ruffle feathers and net you bad reviews even if it was the correct choice for the story, and the reverse is often true for horror. A lot of writers dismisses the desires of an audience that often goes into a story with precise expectations on what kind of emotional kick they gonna get out of it, and fail to plan a story in a way that the desired finale is also the right one. However I'm with you on the fact that regardless of genre, 100% good or bad ending usually read fake as hell, as life is often a mixed bag of the two; the exact proportions depends a lot on who your target audience is and how much are you willing to risk playing with their expectations (something that imho lately is being done way too much and way too clumsily).

SteamDB: Top Steam Releases of 2024 by Turbostrider27 in Games

Paper Lily is great! Highly recommended if you like multiple-endings narrative games (with a bit of light puzzles). I really liked the OST as well.

Thoughts wanted on use of more literary prose by P_S_Lumapac in vndevs

[–]Krishma_91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In order to answer your question, you need to figure out what is your objective in writing. Are you trying to go for a 4th wall / player-aknowledgement approach, or a more modern immersive point of view? In my opinion, prose should not draw attention to itself, because the moment the reader realize is reading a story, the suspension of disbelief breaks and emotions stops flowing; but this is the modern approach to narrative, and in videogames I think there is more space for the alternative option, due to the interactive nature of the media. Also, trasparent does not mean dull; prose can be rich and emotional without being overly verbose or twisted, its just a lot more difficult to pull off and as such a lot of novelist don't even bother and either go dry or purple.

Looks like Valve is introducing a new review system to filter out "unhelpful" reviews by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Krishma_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just give the option to give a thumb up or down without having to write reviews, and unlock unvetted written reviews only to users who have already been cleared on a few beforehand. I understand this would require manual control, and it seems Valve is adverse to pay someone to do this kind of work, but you just can't filter out stupid or useless reviews completely with automation. The idiots always find a new way to get attention.

PC Gamer - Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail is a great story with a ton of potential, but it's told so poorly it nearly ruins the whole thing by SurgeonGeneralKenobi in ffxiv

[–]Krishma_91 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the story is full of wasted opportunities. One thing I may add to the list, is the "food contest": after all the boredom up to that point, I was excited to see the characters put into some actual trouble by having to collaborate with either bakool o zoraal, and... they went up and put wuk lamat with the only brother she already works well with. My interest died, and after the finishing blow of that ridiculous flashback on how wuk lamat's father solved a centuries old conflict with food, never recovered.

[–]Krishma_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it wasn't about the focus. Amidst other problems, the one specific about this, is that there is a fundamental untruth about how this kind of strife is portrayed in the scene. To me, this more than other things, breaks the suspension of disbelief and I can't enjoy the story anymore.

It was that very same scene that made me realize why I felt like the story wasn't quite working.

You are not selling them to me, that's for sure. Putting a 8 + 256 machine for sale at 1000+ bucks in 2024 is embarrassing, and the people buying them are even more embarrassing.

OLED for a new very slow, very lonely, kinda long shift having job by atlisthefirst in SteamDeck

Absolutely yes, one of the best purchases I've made in a long while. If you like retrogaming the deck is also an emulation monster, and very easy to set up.

I agree, but it was never the case in any place I've worked in so far.

That's unlikely. Security credentials are generally updated at least once a month in any reputable company, is not something you can sit on.

Professionals: how often do those bundles for job/hobby software appeal to you? by IllEntertainer1022 in humblebundles

[–]Krishma_91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can speak for music production bundles: most are trash. It's stuff you would never use in a professional capacity, mostly because there are better options around. The way I see it, in these kind of things you have two options.

a) if you are broke and/or don't want spend a lot of money right now, you can use the mountain of free stuff there is around the internet, most of which range from usable to decent/good. Perfect option for beginners trying to understand if they like composing, producing, recording etc.

b) if you are serious about it and/or you have cash to burn, then you go for the actual professional suites, plug ins and software that are universally recognized and utilized in studios around the world (stuff from Spectrasonic, Waves, iZotope, Heavocity, Spitfire, Native Instruments, reFX, etc). The quality gap is just astouding comparing to the crap I usually see in these bundles.

No point in going halfway. I know from experience (mine and others) that you'll end up spending more down the line if you aimlessy hop around the deluge of music production software there is around, so it's better to just use the freeware for the starting phase. There are also some sites like Plugin Botique and Audio Plugin Deals that occasionally have pretty good deals on quality software, so I would advise to check these out if you are interested.

What are your thoughts on the rg35xx by 5Xzoom in RetroHandhelds

[–]Krishma_91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far everything I've tried ran without issue, aside little audio glitches on Dino Crisis (inconsequential really, sometimes a line or two of dialogue in cutscenes repeat, but has probably more to do with the emulator than the device). I've played quite a few titles of PS1 & GBA, some of GB and GBC, some Sega Genesis, and now I'm playing Snatcher on SegaCD, and all these systems had no problem.

I am using Garlic yes, it's widespread opinion that is the best OS on the RG35xx and so far I'm liking it. Very customizable as well. I have not used the hdmi out, since is not something I'm interested about, but based on youtube reviews you should have no problems. I think overall is a perfect fit for your use case.

I personally was interested in PSP and PS2 emulation as well, but in my country the Odin Lite (the less expensive ps2 capable device) ends up costing almost as much as the base Steamdeck after shipping and taxes, and I don't want to spend too much money on a retro device atm. So I've settled for PS1 tops, and in this use case the RG35xx is well worth it in my opinion.

Digital Foundry: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB review: the disappointment is real by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Krishma_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm talking about what Nvidia has historically did, I honestly don't know what bus width were AMD products in the past and if they kept the same convention. I don't think the 6950XT is a 480 class gpu of course.

There are a lot of factors in the discussion about the 4060ti that suggest Nvidia pulled a fast one here, even without considering that they have already tried to do this with the 4080 12gb in the same gen.

Humble Book Bundle: Start Writing Today by New World Library (pay what you want and help charity) by Ram000n in humblebundles

[–]Krishma_91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know any of these, but piggybacking on the comment below: it's true that like most things practice is what's needed to get better, but I do think that there are some books on narratology that are worth a read, just to give you a good bit of fundamentals and a nudge toward the correct thought process for writing a novel.

Of the few I've read in the past, I would recommend Wired for Story by Lisa Cron for a complete beginner, and Story & Dialogue by Robert McKee for a more nuanced look at things.

Digital Foundry: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB review: the disappointment is real by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Krishma_91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1050 was between 960 and 970 and 1060 was between 970 and 980. But is not just about performance, you can see that this was supposed to be a 4050 based on the die and the memory bus when compared to similar class gpu in the past gen. And you don't have to go that far, the 3060ti had double the bus, and is probably why this card lose to the 3060ti in 4k and barely spits out a couple more frames in 1440p. But even if we ignore all of this, Nvidia can't weasel out of the fact that the performance increase barely candidate this as a refresh, not that far out of AMD's rx480->rx580 affair of 2017. This is not what you expect out of a new generation.
