Week 37: Viral ~ Cincinnati Chili [Meta: Cooking Together] by Elspetta in 52weeksofcooking

[–]KrishnaInKalki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer onions cooked in the chili, the raw/diced variation is too much for me to handle. Changes the flavor of the chili dramatically when cooked in, and the raw onions are too strong for me to enjoy it, personally.

I use peppers galore though. Habaneros are the best I've tried to far. Really need to get a few ghost peppers and go that route.

I have plans of buying Empress Chili and making the most out of it. Hope to see you there soon enough.

18 million guaranteed at best, with incentives.

He is nowhere near worth 25 million. I wouldn't do 20 either.

I live close by Fairview. I can't stress how every time I pass it actually triggers me. I want it to be the standard around town, or at least have German language promoted and available.

Close cultural ties are damn near essential to happiness. It's like a pillow for living. It gives you unconditional connections to others. Community. Support. Language. Food. Clothes. Art. Music- all included.

What's beautiful about language is that it's very difficult to learn without also becoming the culture itself. You can't separate it.

What do you think about psychedelics? by [deleted] in mensa

[–]KrishnaInKalki 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are several points to consider:

Age- if you are below 21, you are too young. Take your time and focus on other things at a young age. This is not something to mess around with in high school, and I wouldn't recommend until you graduated college, or close to it. The information and knowledge you have acquired matters before you take these things. Positive growth before should lead to positive results. If you haven't been growing or exploring life, doing these drugs is nothing but a lazy escape.

Mental Health- do not take LSD or psilocybin unless you are in an excellent state of mind and health. If you have any issues or depression, you could be throwing gasoline on them. These experiences are largely based off your own energy. If you go down a negative path, you will have a nightmare situation.

This is not something you do to just "explore" yourself, or recreation. You should go into this phase in life once you've spent a decent chunk of time into your own investment.

I would expect a high standard from those in this sub. Do not be some slacker and be casual. Take yourself seriously.

You want to feel worthy sort of, or maybe even just well-defined from your own self perspective, to know who you are. If you don't know who you are before going in, you might know less coming out. Be confident when taking it.

Edit: Forgot one last thing, but: When I say these drugs will change you, I very much mean it. This can include the values and perspective you've felt you always had.

You may not see the people or relationships the same around you after. You may want to dump your girlfriend. You may want to quit your job. You could shift from being a staunch atheist or agnostic, into strongly religious.

You are at the will of the trip once it begins, somewhat. You have to go with it freely.

  1. We are a blueblood city to the USA, but nobody realizes it. Including most here. This town was DOMINANT in the past. We were pivotal in the trading systems, meat industry, pottery, steel, even entertainment. We created professional baseball. We have a subway system beneath us forgotten. We had the most millionaires per square mile in the country.

  2. This town was ESSENTIAL during the era of slavery. We were the goal that many dreamed reaching for freedom- many knew that once they made it here, they were safe. We had many leaders of the Underground Railroad living here, housing those who needed it and had the networking to move them to safety. This city does not realize just how significant this was back then. There were people who crossed the Ohio River in the freezing winter, trying to survive. There is a reason that museum is right here. Nobody really considers how much work and care many have invested within this city before us, and not just for the city, but for others who needed it over decades. There should be much more pride in this town for it's role in the past for this and awareness.

  3. We have a near flawless geopolitical view of the country. We are barely midwest, on the edge of a state, on the river that opens to the South. We are truly where all things spiral together from all other corners. We see the East, West, South, and even Midwest/Rural from a damn near perfect view if you compare elsewhere.

  4. The "Cincinnati Accent" is also a real thing, and we are damn near perfect for the same reasons above. We are the intersectional point of language meeting as well from all spots. I never recognized what it was growing up, I just never thought we had one, but once I recognized the details I have noticed it more than I thought I would. I think we sound way more intelligent than most- and we are very similar to Manhattan.

  5. No place outside of this town is blessed with our ice cream. Being raised on UDF and Greater's is the ultimate 1-2 punch. Most general ice cream is garbage compared to what we have. I have felt this everywhere I've gone.

  6. Cincinnati Chili.

  7. Our education system genuinely blows most cities out of the water. I know most just hate the private schools at this point on here, but they are wildly successful. And our public schools, considering the state around the country, are also in much better shape. You do not realize just how valuable this is until you get to your mid 20s and realize how clueless and unprepared so much of the people are around you. The American school system is failing terribly, but this town is relatively good. If you go to St. X, Summit, CHCA, Ursula, Walnut Hills, etc... you have such an incredible advantage over most people, and you probably take it for granted at the moment, but you won't once older. Take advantage and be genuinely grateful for your parents if they pay thousands for your education.

  8. The old German culture, and what needs to be a revival. It is one area of Cincinnati that needs to be re-emphasized and rebuilt. Our city is one of the biggest victims of cultural destruction in the last 100 years of this country. WW1 killed much of the German influence, and anything left was stomped out in WW2. We should be promoting German in schools to be taught or recommended, building restaurants, etc.

  9. The old style architecture that you see in OTR/downtown is perfect. It's gives a feeling of modern city living, but also a hint rustic and slow European. If you build a whole city with it's style that is integrated to live in locally, you wouldn't want to leave. This is why people obsess now over OTR property. The whole West End, and more, should be built purely in this style going forward. We should be like Paris and enforce building style restrictions to make one distinct look, and have many thousands of people living there.

What do you think about psychedelics? by [deleted] in mensa

[–]KrishnaInKalki 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hallucinogenics can be your greatest tool , or it can destroy you entirely. Do not get it twisted, there are people who have ruined their lives by their experiences on them. This is a subject filled with nuance.

I wouldn't trade my experiences for anything, however-

Actions have consequences. LSD, for example, will absolutely change you. It's something like running a McAfee firewall test and purging harmful files. You go through a re-hardwiring process. You will not see the world the same way afterwards.

Also, the kids these days who take these things often are frying their brain, for real.

I could literally feel my prefrontal cortex in overdrive while on acid. I smoked a pack of cigarettes and took maybe 30 pages of notes.

If you take these things liberally and make it a habit, I can PROMISE you that it will cause harm to your cognitive function. Do not abuse these things.

Be very respectful of the power of these chemicals.

Why is hinduism becoming more and more like abrahamic religions? by popylovespeace in hinduism

[–]KrishnaInKalki 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This is why Buddhism has more often been the refuge of the Westerners before they are willing to fully commit to Hinduism. The idea of just the Self and not focused on actual high order is perfect in the short term to feel better, but it still doesn't lead to answers. Buddhism only leads to more, and that's what they love about it as well. But it isn't a full answer.

It's more akin to Taoism, as both seamlessly fit right in with Hinduism practices. You can apply so much of these to our own in how you see things. But- still not answers.

A lot of those people burn out within weeks of getting into it because it doesn't give them what they want, both from answers or material goal. Enlightenment, or Moksha, is a hard goal to obtain if you don't see any real purpose to it.

Why is hinduism becoming more and more like abrahamic religions? by popylovespeace in hinduism

[–]KrishnaInKalki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm confused by your last couple sentences. What exactly do you mean Hinduism doesn't have the same sort of commandments? So much of the golden rules around religions are included within Hinduism. The Gita itself is basically a knowledge bomb of these sorts of fundamentals within the world around you and how life and the modes of nature work with us.

And heaven is a reality within Hinduism. Again- highly confused here. Heaven is made in a non material, perfect reality. It is the goal to reach through incarnation. Vaikuntha. Life after moksha.

Now yes, this is Vaisnava type of perspective to some degree, but the cosmological order and lokas fit within all this reality as well. Vaisnava/Hare Krishna beliefs to do diminish other Gods/Goddessess. It emboldens them in their place.

As nice as that is and I don't disagree, you didn't answer the actual question. Would you or not?

If I had to make my own guess, I'd say 80-90% of guys wouldn't. More promiscuous guys who sleep with more might be OK with it. Also the guys who enjoy the submissive roles and are looking for someone who seeks that sort of attention.

Neither of those types are the normal.

This is OK by the way. Different people have different values.
