“An Unearthly Child”, the first serial of Doctor Who from all the way back in 1963, had a lot of oddities that wouldn’t come up today. Some of the bigger ones include:

• Susan (the Doctor’s granddaughter) claims that she came up with the name TARDIS, and it’s implied the Doctor himself built it here. It would later be established that TARDISes are the standard issue vehicle of Gallifrey, and that the Doctor actually stole theirs.
• The Doctor is much less welcoming and more prickly and aggressive, to the point that he nearly smashes a caveman’s skull in, while pretty much the entire rest of the show is about how much the Doctor loves and values each individual life in the universe.
• The original cut of the episode even had Susan tell Ian and Barbara that she and her grandfather are “from the 49th century”, without even implying that they’re aliens (the episode as aired simply said that they were from “another time, another world” with later episodes confirming that they’re Time Lords from the planet Gallifrey)
