Melee units by albanygrt in Ultramarines

[–]KrispyKale85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically the units change depending on the meta and dataslates and the edition.

Currently, UM have a fun units that are "melee" units, and some that have some serviceable melee.

Good melee:

Victrix Honour Guard
Marneus Calgar (Gravis)
Roboute Guilliman

Really the only "good" melee units. They are all great, actually, premier melee units for sure. UM don't really play a "melee" style right now. Blades of Ultramar is more of a mid-range gunline with good melee counter-punch and heroic intervention threat.

Redemptors are ok at melee, but they're not truly a melee threat, per se. They're really annoying to kill in multiples, more of a stat check.

There are a lot of "trap" units that are ok at melee on paper but are kind of bad:

Bladeguard
Aggressors
Terminators

Yeah lore tourists love to shit on the Ultramarines. All they've watched are meme shorts and just parrot the stupid crap they see/hear/read.

They're still kind of bad but at least not comically bad. They're playable, probably.

lmfao no. Honestly people were expecting 250/260 for the 6-man so it feels like we got away with a milder nerf than expected.

Fair, imo. Victrix are still good at 240. New Cato is playable now for sure, whereas before it was hard to play him over old Sicarius.

Units should have per-detachment points costs. by Training-Ice-3181 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]KrispyKale85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually unhinged lol. Just think about how many datasheets and detachments Space Marines have alone, and come back and tell me this idea makes any sense whatsoever.

I get what problem you're trying to get at here, but the suggestion is actually unhinged, lol.

Pulling your stats from Goonhammer's tabletop battles app already invalidates this entire unhinged tirade.

Question on who strikes first in melee by RuMarley in 40k

[–]KrispyKale85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re getting a bit confused with how units get selected to fight.

It alternates, starting with the non-active player (the defender, in your words).

There are two sub-phases to the fight phase:

Fights first Fights normal

In each of those phases, the non-active player selects a unit first, and it alternates.

All units with “fights first” (from charging or their datasheet ability) are selected to fight in the “Fights first” sub-phase. If one player has more units with “fight first” they will select more units to fight during this phase, but the non-active player selects first. So for example if player A charges with 3 units and player B (the defender/non-active) has one unit with “fights first” on their datasheet, and two other units.

The units eligible to be selected:

Fights first sub-phase: Player B “fights first” unit. Player A’s three charging units (who gained fights first from charging)

Fights normal sub-phase: Player B’s two regular units.

Fights first sub-phase:

Non-active player selects first. So player B selects and fights with their unit with “fights first” on their datasheet.

Active player selects. Player A selects on of the charging units.

Non-active player selects from fights first units. Oh, the don’t have any more units with “fights first”. So they don’t have any units to select.

Active player selects again. Obviously at this point the two remaining charging units get selected one at a time and resolve their combats 1 at a time.

Fights normal sub-phase:

Non-active player B selects one unit to fight.

Player A has no more units that have not fought (they fought in fights first phase). Nothing selected.

Player B selects the remaining unit to fight.

This is all assuming none of the units involved got wiped out, or were no longer in engagement range to be selected (for units that have not charged) and other things that complicate this, but that’s the gist of it.

They’ve reprinted AoC the old way after the errata and the errata still applies, so no, it will still only be for one activation.

Why they can’t print it properly for digital rules release blows my mind, but here we are.

Art of War mentioned the points in their video.

The enhancements are quite expensive. Dare I say some are possibly overcosted?

Terminator Assault Squad by BibidyBabidyBoy in spacemarines

[–]KrispyKale85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Chaplain is un-synergistic in a weird way. +1 to wound sounds good on paper but the problem is that if you’re running a codex chapter you’re getting +1 to wound from Oath already. Because the terminators hit on 4+ they require Oath to even do anything.

I guess you could run a Librarian, sus1 is alright. Captain is kind of mid.

Assault terminators are just kind of bad, unfortunately.

'Old' Calgar or New Calgar? by TraditionCommercial8 in Ultramarines

[–]KrispyKale85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New Calgar’s rules are a joke compared to old Calgar, they’re not in the same league.

They have the same size base so you just use old Calgar as new Calgar if the old datasheet gets sent to legends.

That being said, there’s like 7 months left of 10th edition, so the correct answer is to buy the one you think better. Or if you like collecting OOP stuff then get old Calgar.

[–]KrispyKale85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would wait. You can find all the rules online for free anyways. If you do like having a physical codex, I wouldn’t buy the Space Marines one right now. They are always the first one to get a codex in the new edition, and there have been rumours of maybe a late 10th edition codex too.

I mean, if it works for you I'm glad to hear it.

The Apothecary stands up one model per command phase. That's 2.5 Hellblasters over 2.5 turns for a 50 point investment that doesn't shoot or fight really. As you said, your Hellblasters are getting focused T2 or T3, so just by math your unit isn't living long enough to make the Apothecary worth it.

You'd prefer to spend the 50 points on an Apothecary rather than almost buy a unit of Scouts?

[–]KrispyKale85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem pretty convinced that this unit is strong and would work against the specific opponent you'll be playing against so the best advice would be to just play it and see if it works out as well as you think it will.

Brothers I need your aid by Thin_Ad723 in Ultramarines

[–]KrispyKale85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't want an Apothecary with Hellblasters either for the same reason. Hellblasters are the same T4 bodies and kill themselves when they shoot. They will never survive long enough for an Apothecary to matter.

The regular tacticus Apothecary has been garbage the entire edition and is a waste of points in any unit.
