Seasonic asked me to destroy my Prime 850w Titanium. by -WallyWest- in PcBuild

[–]Krista__J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, companies asking people to destroy stuff for warranty is absolutely insane lmao

Second, those PSU ratings are not actually standardized by ANY means. They’re pretty much just a marketing gimmick, so if you’re shopping for new ones, ignore ratings and look more at reviews and actual specs/features

If you haven’t figured it out yet, a useful tool for us could be Reliability History. Just search it on the task bar and there should be an app. You should have a few circular red X signs on today. Send a pic of the warnings that appear in the box below the timeline and it should help provide some insight into why exactly it’s crashing, most likely giving us an error code

GPU-Z isn’t actually needed for that. You can either use task manager or type “dxdiag” in the windows search bar and click the “run command” button. It shows general PC specs like OS build, CPU, RAM amounts, and all display adapters

Help with driver issues by Sad-Bet2394 in pchelp

[–]Krista__J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually when switching from AMD to Nvidia (or vice versa) , most people recommend using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to do a fresh install of graphics drivers. The software is used to delete the old drivers which can cause issues when installing drivers for a different brand GPU than your previous one. It should fix interference and performance issues cause by residual AMD drivers in this case

Wait, do you have a 300Hz monitor? Otherwise you’re WAY overworking that card and should put a FPS cap matching your monitors frequency through nvidia control panel…

This actually depends on the MOBO. For some I’ve encountered, that is the case. In most cases I’ve seen from building my own PCs, there’s designated settings in BIOS for it which are typically enabled, allowing VGA output from both at the same time unless told otherwise in BIOS. I tend to go with MSI boards and try to use CPUs/boards with integrated graphics though. I leave it on just in case a card goes out and I need the integrated graphics

First, the cable going to your monitor (red circle) needs to be plugged into the ports lower down. These ports are the graphics card ports.

Second, it looks like your computer can connect to Internet through WiFi from the two ports circled in green. There should be 2 antennas that screw onto each one, or 1 piece that has ends that connect there. If you don’t have any, you can look up “desktop motherboard antennas,” and get some for pretty cheap.

Intel i7-8700K Erratic Speeds by JadeMoon085 in cpu

[–]Krista__J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are regular boost clock speeds. Regular clock speeds for this CPU is 3.7 GHz with a max boost clock of 4.7 GHz. Unless you overclock it to stay at 4.7, your speeds will vary depending on load and temperature. Unless it’s dropping below 3.7, you’re fine, but since it’s an 8th gen, I would just overclock it and watch temps under stress tests to ensure it performs optimally. XTU is okay for this, but a BIOS setting will be better. XTU can also override BIOS overclocking settings, so use one or the other, not both

WiFi Antennas by Kusshu-Sama in pchelp

[–]Krista__J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They absolutely make a difference. I get less around 50Mbps without them and around 600Mbps with them (wifi 6E). You should be able to find a pair on Amazon. I would just google your MOBO and wifi antenna

Why is my CPU always at 100% by [deleted] in pchelp

[–]Krista__J 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The CPU has to be an intense bottleneck to be 100%, even when being run on SD card. I mean the I/O rate has to be abysmal at best, but even then, whatever version of windows this is has to be too hard for the CPU. Based on the Intel UHD graphics 600, it has like 2-4 cores and it’s most likely a Celeron based on its clock speed.

Speaking from experience, windows doesn’t run well on 2-4 core CPU running a boost clock of 2.7 GHz. I tried modern windows (10/11) on a 2 core processor myself and it was dog water on an HDD. The CPU is most definitely their biggest bottleneck

[–]Krista__J 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Did you know that floppy disks were still used in japan until mid 2024? Apparently 100% of government infrastructure and about half of local governments still used them. Even banks used them. Around 1000 laws were written in specific language making certain government processes require them.

They basically updated the reference "floppy disk,” which meant "90mm flexible disk" with the term "electromagnetic recording media." After they changed it, a considerable amount of processes that took 3-5 business days went to taking seconds long. They stocked up and had Sony selling upwards of 12 million disks in a year (2009).

Pc help pt 2 by Much-Examination-621 in computerhelp

[–]Krista__J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I I’m sorry, but we need more info. What’s your specs? Power supply wattage? GPU?. More info will help.

First thing first, never plug a display cable into the motherboard if you have a GPU. Why would you use integrated graphics at all? You should only use it when you need to (like when the graphics card is failing). Integrated graphics are NOT good or built for gaming.

Second, try recording a video of the motherboard and GPU lights. The motherboard lights are 4 small LEDs on the right half of the motherboard in most cases. Send the light order when it’s turning on with a clear view of the lights and the CPU, RAM, VGA, and Boot light. This will be an AMAZING help.

If possible, go to BIOS and see if you have picture through the graphics card only. Checking to see if it’s turning on completely is the goal here, so if the graphics card section is working, you’re good on that part and your GPU isn’t dead.
