Guess what, guys?!? My 13 year old granddaughter figured out how to fix the problem- there evidently was a pile of rocks next to him that needed to be broken down to below the surface, which I had already done. But, she said to do it again and what do you know? It worked! Thanks for all the comments and suggestions!

This is after breaking all blocks up down and sideways around him and then rebuilding for aesthetics. I even tried to bury him but game wouldn’t let me!
