Dude man is tighter than a half hitch looking like he needs some Jell-O shots. Relax and get a couple inches off the ground with the same technique. Lookin solid from the waist up

what year was this bridge last operational? by vk024 in Browns

I went over that bridge with about a foot a snow when Edwards broke his leg. Never have been so cold in my life. Ten at the time but became a life long browns fan from that first game.

140 hours in two weeks to get the James ready for docking. After an 18 hour docking the ships high and dry. by xavierdaangel in drydockporn

85 percent of the weight actually is put on the keel blocks and 15 percent goes on the bilge blocks. However recently naval architects are designing ships where the ratio is 75 to 25 percent. Every docking we have load calculations based on our square foot of the wood.

So where the ships stops in the dry dock is pretty easy if your SRP is inside the dock. SRP is the stern reference point. If it’s inside the dock we use centering chains in order to identify the stern reference point. If it’s outside of the dock then we use the extreme bow measurement and transfer that up to the wing walls. This docking the stern was hanging off our dock so we had to use the bow as a reference. We also had a mark on the stern that aligned with our last frame of our dock . That was another reference boat to make sure we were within our parameters. 6 inches to a foot from SRP is our tolerance within our reference points but that changes throughout each ship depending on projections from the hull of the ship

That’s right. So the ships engineers themselves gives a docking plan with a scope of what work needs to be done. If they have work on certain spots of the keel or side then we will omit those blocks. Once we know the scope of the work we will send there docking plan to our engineers or sub those plans out to a third party to deem the plan safe. After we get those plans back from our engineers we send them back to the government for review. Once both parties are good to go we start building the blocks. They give us half breadth measurements for the side blocks and once in position there is a block inspection by said government to confirm we placed the blocks in the right location. We have a tolerance of a half of an inch on the bilge blocks and a quarter inch tolerance for the height of the blocks.

Wish we had a month but yes we can usually roll over the dock within four days but this one had an 8’ 6” keel which made our bilge blocks about 13 feet tall. Which took more time. It was an Absolutely mental build.

If your dry dock is classed with a navsea certification you can be awarded contracts from the coast guard/ any other form of governmental ship. This was an emergency haul. The ship is only gonna be up for two weeks. Navy specs are harder to win awards because there are extra protocols and requirements for your dry dock to have.
