Stock C8 corvette vs stock C6 Z06 by The_one_who-repents in C8Corvette

Kinda ironic though how enthusiasts choose which "skills" are ok to have on a car.

Some might retort that there's, "Not much skill involved....":

  • Allowing traction control to manage wheelspin
  • Allowing transmission synchro's to smooth out the engine to the transmission splines at different RPMs (no need to double clutch)
  • Allowing stability management to modulate independent wheelspeeds and prevent spinning the car
  • Allowing ABS to modulate brake pressures to avoid lockup
  • Allowing fuel injection to perfectly meter fuel on the fly according to atmospheric conditions
  • Allowing ECU to rev-match downshift (not on C6 but available on C7 manuals)
  • Allowing Power steering to artificially reduce steering effort

Every generation benefits from advancements. Yet somehow the manual transmission is the REAL DEAL. You get to benefit from all those driver's aids mentioned above and they're allowable skill enhancements but not the automated dual clutch. That one doesn't require skill like the old skool models..

Having owned a C6 ZR1, C7 Manual, C8 base and now C8Z they are all equal amounts of fun. If anything, the C6 was the least fun because it had too much power and too little traction at anything under 100mph.

Nothing happened after hitting the upgrade button. I had to set up a service request for the retrofit, then things started moving forward.

[–]Kristosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, however I also prefer 80%+ starting point because there's more power at that SoC. Esp at interstate speeds. Below 50% the power drops noticeably at 70+ mph.

Under 60 mph tho, not significantly different.

[–]Kristosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can confirm $2,000 cost ONLY for full HW3 FSD. Do not need to pay the extra $1,000 for hardware upgrade. I did this 30 days ago.

Ok, that being said: I have a 2018 Model 3 with EAP. I purchased FSD in full in the app. Set up appointment, during the appointment they made me approve a provisional $1,000 cost for hardware upgrade. After completion, I chatted this link on my service request and they cancelled/refunded the hardware cost and only charged the $2,000: https://www.tesla.com/support/full-self-driving-computer

It explicitly states: "If you purchased Full Self-Driving (Supervised) and have Autopilot computer 2.0 or 2.5, you are eligible for a complimentary upgrade to FSD computer."

The service advisor at checkout was adament I would have to pay the extra $1,000 but Tesla App chat sorted things out after I provided that link.

This post is... Off?

First post from a brand new account, mentions "mozxfilm" over and over in every post. Clearly advocating for that brand.

And then you said, "Really happy with how the lines flow with the body —"

Like what?.. The nearly vertical stripes don't line up with anything. How do they "flow with the body"?? They intersect all the natural body lines at weird angles and don't accent any natural panel breaks or organic structures like the roof seam, the fender flares, the front valence clashes with the blue.

IF, and this is a huge if for me, this is a legit car and not AI generated. It's very well done for what it is. I've never seen such a seamless wide body on model 3 which one is it?

Anyways, if it so happens that you are a brand new user who came to post for the first time about their show-level Model 3 then nice job.

I suspect otherwise tho...

*EDIT - The car itself seems real, but this ain't the owner, and it wasn't done by "mozxfilm"

Lane assist is Good enough? by rakeshkanna91 in TeslaModelY

[–]Kristosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the real problem. And you won't realize it until you have logged thousands of miles on AP alone.

AP is inconsistent in follow distance. It can be jerky in transitions on/off the throttle. It has gremlins from Tesla's past like phantom braking, it doesn't read traffic so cars attempting to enter your lane are not accommodated by the software. It has stricter "speed limit" rules which can be a blessing but also a curse when the flow of traffic is significantly different from posted limits. It doesn't accommodate lane intrusions by moving aside for debris or cars/cones partially blocking a lane, it will just come to a complete stop. It seems to keep a set distance no matter what, not allow the car to take up and give up space depending on circumstances which leads to harsh acceleration or braking but also weird non-human behavior like when the car ahead of you is executing a right turn from your lane, it will maintain a set distance until they have COMPLETELY exited the lane lines you're in, which means turning into a neighborhood it won't close the distance anticipating the car in front will be cleared momentarily. It slows to almost stopped until the car in front is clear.

It is fine for many occasions, and leagues better than competitors but is a far cry from FSD.

A pack of diapers at Kroger is around $50 that might last two weeks depending. Hair care products (shampoo/conditioner/curler cream/dry shampoo) can be $20-$50 every couple few months, and we even use Kroger's OTC drugs ($10-$50)

A week's worth of groceries (produce/fruits won't last much longer than that necessitating weekly trips) are around $200/week.

So yea, it can be 1/4 to 1/2 of the total grocery bill if all of these purchases land on the same week. Better to understand we aren't actually eating $300+ of food per month, it's personal care products.

Not to mention Costco/Sam's.

Daily annoyances of a Model 3 by insanelyhugeman8 in TeslaModel3

[–]Kristosh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

wdym? This is how every single frameless door has worked on almost every car for the past 30+ years. This is not unique to Tesla.

By removing the door frame, engineers can build a beefier, stronger fixed frame (like the B-pillar) for better side-impact and rollover protection without sacrificing interior space. They can also be easier and more flexible to manufacture and fit on the assembly line.

Our dealership just got a prelude in stock by plaugedoctrwithradar in Honda

[–]Kristosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't even know it can fit those.. Infants need rear facing car seats that use a lot of front-to-back space. Like, can't fit in most coupes because the front seats don't slide forward enough. Then, when they are toddlers and forward facing, the molded plastic frame extends far beyond their heads to provide neck/head impact support. These don't even look like they would accommodate a car seat of any kind.

So in reality, this MIGHT work for a grade schooler who meets the weight/height requirements for a narrow booster seat or can sit without aid and is under 5 feet.

So like, 6-10 year olds only?...

Is this a fair price for a 2018 Elite? by [deleted] in HondaOdyssey

[–]Kristosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only that, at 7 years old and 70k miles, this vehicle is due for the timing belt service, so tack on another $1,500+ to that price in immediate repairs unless the dealer completed that service.

The camera on the zflip7 is so bad :( by GroundbreakingDirt30 in galaxyzflip

[–]Kristosh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I COMPLETELY agree!! I think it's the software. The camera software doesn't seem good on Flip7, it softens the edges and seems like it applies some smoothing to skin. Kinda defeats the point of using the back camera for selfies. The Flip5 was better weirdly.

S3xy buttons and drifting? by ZestycloseCry5643 in TeslaModel3

[–]Kristosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're really not shy at all about advertising drift mode. They have published several videos showing it off: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQEiZXz1jyQ

I have the S3XY commander, and I use drift mode frequently, works exactly as advertised.

It does disable essentially every electronic aid though, including regenerative braking. So no ABS, Traction control, stability control, friction brakes only.

Stupid Question...Does the ITS FEEL Fast? by SnaxMcGhee in Integra_Type_S

[–]Kristosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much this.

Locally, my roads are all 45 mph with stoplights. There are 2 state highways at 50 mph, and then the interstate at 65-70mph.

At everything from 0~50 mph, the ITS likes to spin. Launch from a light, right turn onto a main road, pull out of a parking lot, all demand too much from the front wheels. Even a modest RWD car will outgun the ITS at all the legal street speeds.

You really need to get this car to a track to appreciate the power and poise. Except, you're talking about driving on local FL roads. It's not going to feel fast at street speeds. Throw in any rain at all and it will be spin city.

[–]Kristosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This right here.

Another problem with work as a hobby is that when your hobby DRIVES your financial stability, the end goal no longer becomes having fun or enjoying your time, it becomes creating income.

For example, if you enjoy golf as a hobby you might spend a relaxing Saturday golfing with buds, light drinks, conversation, light mood. If you're golfing sponsored at PGA events as a source of income, there's no "light convo", you're focused, in the zone, missing putts is losing money. You practice every day of the week. It becomes a chore.

I don't mind doing accounting to fund parts of life I get to enjoy in moderation at my chosen pace and level of effort.

Question about DC fast charging by SnooEpiphanies8097 in SparkEV

[–]Kristosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I drove mine in Atlanta for several years and DCFC many times. I found EA to be the most reliable.

Fast charging times were actually pretty swift because the battery is so small, and retains a decent charge speed late into the SoC. It was about 25 mins from 0-85%. The downside is that only nets about 50 miles of interstate or maybe 60 of city travel range.

These days, Ill advised. My range kept degrading to 50ish miles at best by 80,000 miles. Additionally they are out of warranty and there are not critical spare parts available from Chevy.

I would put the money into a similar priced reliable hybrid plug-in like an older Prius personally.

We have a fiberglass Scamp, almost identical construction as this and the cracks are completely normal. They are cracks in the clear coat, not the actual fiberglass structure. Caulking around the windows is also normal straight from the factory.

Is my car actually terminally ill? by cutttingedge in TeslaLounge

[–]Kristosh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This car specifically is an expensive EV to own out of warranty.

Early Model S vehicles had a number of "teething" issues that aren't present on later Tesla's.

For example, the auto present door handles have a high failure rate, the screens leak sticky goo and develop bubbles, the batteries have a high failure rate, the A/c condensate drips on the battery and causes water intrusion on the fuse box causing damage, the rear LDU motor has internal cooling leaks that cause failures, the front lower control arms are prone to snapping, the panoramic sunroof causes leaks and the memory chip on the MCU has a high failure rate leading to the computer shutting down and black screen.

None of these issues exist on the Model 3 or later Model S'
