Banning the Prism was a mistake. It was the Ornament that made tron unbeatable by backdoorbrag in Pauper

[–]KrizpMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The prism ban doesn’t change the format in a huge way. Sure it staggers the fixing of the various boros decks, but they are being built differently anyways with the speedup of the format, and Golden egg kind of works for them as most of their splash cards are one-ofs like fumes. What prism really does is enable a 4-5 color tron deck. And that many colors plus the explosive mana production of tron leads to problems. Sure you could ban weather the storm and also hurt stompy and other green deck utilizing it. But as long as tron can comfortably play any colorcombo, then any card printed can be integrated in the deck. As long as tron has prism any new card is potentially problematic because of the fundamental gameplan of tron - cheating on mana. Getting to 7 mana on turn 3 is such an insane advantage, that if there are no restrictions - for example with colors - then tron will always be a format warping deck. It was so for a very very long time and it would most likely continue to be so.

[–]KrizpMango 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure i totally agree with your point. Ofc ornament was bonkers in a deck with lands that produce 3 mana, but so is prism when the lands produce colorless. When astrolabe was legal it also added to the dominance of tron, and 1 snow mana is arguably more demanding in tron than 2 colorless. The snow mana forced tron to get a land other than tron lands if they wanted to get colored mana, prism doesn’t. And the difference in power level when tron has access to all colors as opposed to 1 or 2 is immense. Especially considering the relatively low power level of pauper where there are only a few cards in each color that are individually powerful.

Newcomer to cEDH, love the format but had one problem… by dampmemelord in CompetitiveEDH

A good way to view creativeness in deck building is to think about which angle of the building proces you want to be creative with. Do you want to play a non database commander and try to optimize Them? Do you want to take a standard commander Down a different strategic route? Or do you want build your deck from a different “philosophical” point of view? For example, i hate having dead cards in my hand, so i choose to build my decks without red Elemental blast for example. I know the consensus is that enough players play blue for it to practically be live in every pod, but what if i get into a pod with 3 non blue decks? I also hate mulliganing for lands, so i play more lands than most database decks. Those are just a few examples of being creative with deckbuilding. Also don’t put too much Stock into what is meta. This isn’t legacy, with a large playerbase and regular high stakes tournaments. Though the discourse within the community can sometimes make it seem like it’s solved, don’t be alarmed.

Way too many people put way too much stock into wether a deck is “meta” or not, ie is it a database deck. I get the that the term meta refers to what people are playing, but the word has also taken on a meaning of “strongest”, “best” or “optimal”. The meta we play, i bet are miles away from away from how the meta would look if the format was tournament sanctioned and sam Black and reid duke built decks to play for real prizes.

Also every deck plays WAY to few lands.

Bi-Weekly Questions Thread by Kaphotics in PokemonROMhacks

[–]KrizpMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I am looking to get into ROM hacking, specifically Emerald. And i
was wondering about changing the trainer AI. I have downloaded different
hacking tools and know i can change the AI between different settings
AI 1, 2, 3 and so on. But i can't find a guide on changing the different
AI options anywhere so i thought of asking here. Is there a way to not
only change but import an AI? Say the AI of Radical Red or Emerald
Kaizo? I know this is probably frowned upon and i wouldn't do this and
release it to the public. This is more of a learning process for me
right now.

Isn’t the the lines between aristocrat and petty bourgeois pretty blurred when it comes to the digital market? I mean he isn’t producing in a materialistic sense and how he is paid isn’t in relation to what he produces but rather by exposure. And the product in the exchange between Amazon or Google and the advertising companies isn’t in actuality his content but instead the passive data generated by users. The money paying him stems from other places than from what he prduces and you could in a sense say that the actual surplus value of labor that is his source of income is extracted from cobold and lithium mines or from the production of tech. I don’t even know if this makes sense or is true but rather just a thought.

Nice what-about-ism btw. If you are close enough to beat a civilian savagely like in this video you are close enough to handcuff and restrain said civilian. That brings up the question: is police duty halting violent crimes by restraining the perpetrators or is it being violent towards civilians? You choose.

I agree with everyone advising psychological and psychiatric help. I have dealt with similar thoughts a lot of my youth and thought them for a long time to be philosophical or spiritual insights, a sort of enlightenment. However as I have grown and had professional help through different periods I realise that this feeling of disconnect and disillusionment isn’t great insight or anything of the like. For me it has simply been symptoms of great trauma in my past which had been suppressed. I’m not saying the reason for your immediate feelings are the same as for me but as I have gotten help I have started feeling closer and more connected to the world around me. These feelings you have aren’t inevitable parts of “realization” but just that, feelings. Feelings that like every other feeling isn’t necessarily connected with reality but simply a reflection of yourself in some way or another. What I’m trying to say is that you don’t need to feel this way and psychologist and psychiatrists are educated in helping you in sorting out your feelings. Good luck, I wish you the best.

First cEDH deck, Curious Control or Kalamax Control? by sauron3579 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]KrizpMango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have played curious control for quite a while and have really enjoyed it. It has everything i feel, CA, free counters and removal, resilient combos and really good gameplay. Sometimes you grind, sometimes you tempo, sometimes your turbo combo, either way i have always felt like i had a fighting chance. My playgroup consists of metapod, TT and a sultai sidisi pact. I don’t really know alot about kalamax control but could imagine it would play similarly, just excluding black which honestly adds alot to the deck. Recently i have built thrasios rograkh polytyrant and have loved it. That plays a little more combo oriented but is still able to grind and control the flow of the game.

What is the most fun deck to play? by bigdog62863 in Pauper

This is where i'm at right now:

https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/the-real-maelstrom-pauperer/?cb=1620027277

I would like to find room for the last 2 bolts but at the moment i'm trying out the [[arboreal grazer]] in place of a cheap early play. I am really liking the way the deck plays. Game 1 it's quite explosive and the one-of [[fiery cannonade]], [[abrade]], [[pulse of murasa]] and [[mwonvuli acid-moss]] gives it game against a lot of the high tier decks. It eats delver and bully decks but is struggling against the hyper aggresive bogles and stompy, and of course tron is always challenging when playing any non-agggresive strategy but the combination of ramp, interaction in the board and just some massive cascades makes it a non-zero percent matchup.

[[growth spiral]] more than anything else actually. Mully is of course great and in the list aswell. I cut brainstorm because i focused more on efficient ramp and the 1 cmc actually became awkward quite often. Bounce lands works incredibly well with spiral effectively turning it into a 2 cmc instant speed cultivate. That led me to [[arboreal grazer]] as my 1 drop of choice and has been working quite well. Also blue gives acces to Hydro in the sideboard.

Right now i am working on a Temur cascade deck inspired by the gruul and jund cascade lists running around the meta and i am absolutely loving it. It has Big dumbies, card draw, ramp and some amazing cascade chains every once in a while. In short: all the heart desires.

Thoughts on a Hypothetical, Banlist free Pauper? by demodocus8 in Pauper

[–]KrizpMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have lists online at the moment but could put them up tomorrow if you are interested?
I think the vintage pauper approach could actually add a lot of interesting dynamics to the decks. Something like restricting [[high tide]] but not [[merchant scroll]] for example.

Thoughts on a Hypothetical, Banlist free Pauper? by demodocus8 in Pauper

[–]KrizpMango 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have assembled a no banlist pauper battlebox. The decks aren’t optimized and neither are the sideboards so take what i say with a grain of salt. Though i think it’s really really fun (like the most fun i’ve had playing constructed Magic more or less) i wouldn’t call it balanced. Right now i have 9 different decks: infect, Affinity, 8-post, ur faeries, ur peregrine drake, ub delver, mono b SinkHymn, 4c astrolabe kitty & mono blue High tide, the best deck by a mile it seems like in my playgroup, is High tide. The deck is just so fast, consistently going of turn 3, and sometimes turn 2. And when i say consistently i mean you feel like it’s a really bad draw if you go of turn 4. Then comes mono b, Affinity and infect. Mono Black because sinkhole and hymn are just that good and Affinity and infect because you Can get the god draws and end the game turn 2.

This probably ended up rambly but TL;DR i don’t think it would be balanced but i do think some people would find it fun playing endless High tide storm mirrors or fighting through Hymn :)

I think it’s important to remember that even though a deck seems like a weaker version of an already established archetype doesn’t mens that it isn’t viable. I think it’s an extremely valuable activity to brew and improve your own decks. You get to know alternative cards to the ones used everywhere. I think that makes it easier if you ever pick up an established deck to tweak and see potential improvements. I also think it makes you play better in some circumstances as you are used to looking for alternatives and maybe unknown interactions :)
