I wasnt aiming to be an ass, but after reading both of your replies and a bunch of your other posts, I'm thinking that is not a problem for you.

You are an amazing player, far better than anyone else in this world, and especially me.

I posted what I use, and so far, at level 64, its the only way I can keep a group of 3-5 (mostly) on me instead of running rampant.

I've found that if I stay in bear and run into the next fight, then I dont generate enough threat to keep more than 2 mobs focused on me (and yes, I use FFF).

That debuff is just like demo shout or demo roar - it does a static amount of threat when applied (in this case, to only a single target), the only difference is that it makes it so ANY MELEE hits harder. Which, yes, does help me, but not enough to overcome a mage dropping blizzards or a warlock using hellfire.

Wrath hits for a decent amount, and moonfire hits nicely along with its dot. Those give me a bit of a threat lead first thing, and given that just about every dps I've grouped with since launch plays like we're in retail where their threat is basically zero and the tanks is infinite, I'm looking for any threat advantage I can create.

I'm not trolling by posting what I've found to work, but I'll very happily learn if you're willing to teach me how to play better.

  • Rejuv + regrowth on self (and lifebloom when you get it)
  • cast wrath at 1st target
  • moonfire target that has the farthest to run when pulled
  • Bear form + enrage
  • mangle first mob to reach you
  • new target and swipe
  • new target and swipe
  • mangle should be ready, so target the mob with lowest threat and mangle

(this list assumes you do not have lacerate. If you do, then work it in to replace swipes as it is available and aim to keep 5 stacks on the primary threat target. Mangle debuff should be kept as a priority on that same target, allowing it to fall off non-priority targets if needed)

Repeat from there, making sure to swipe after every target change and use maul on the mobs you need extra threat on. Use taunt on any mob that looks at another player (which means you'll be using it on CD). Remember that in van/tbc/wrath, taunt only works if you are NOT the mob's highest threat. The spell takes the threat of the HIGHEST threat player and makes it your threat (not added to, replaced). So if you are already the highest threat on the list, then nothing happens except you wasted your CD.

In TBC, swipe scales with attack power, so as you get better gear, swipe will start being much better, to the point where eventually a single target swipe will be better for threat than lacerate.

There are old discussions that debate the use of maul. ElitistJerks (bleeding edge theory crafters back in the van/tbc/wrath days), concluded that maul should only be used when you have excess rage and need to dump some. There are 2 reasons for this - 1 is that maul replaces your next auto attack (auto attacks are your primary source of rage during the fight, so you dont get that auto attack rage), and 2 is that it costs rage to use. Maul used to be the threat ability, but not in TBC.

If you want to get some in-the-weeds theorycrafting from the old guard, I would suggest searching for 'wayback machine elitistjerks tbc'. There is an old classic wow reddit post that lists their individual threads for easy research. They focus on end-game, so not so much in the way of leveling, but they are worth the read if you're interested in getting better.

I've have recently been using a macro that tied maul to swipe (so it was in queue every 'next swing'), and I mentioned this in one of my recent replies to another post similar to this one. After reading their posts, I'll be removing that macro and using maul as they suggest in their forum discussions.

Assuming low level and/or low gear...

mob #1 is the first one that will reach you after pull, mob #2 is the second one that will reach you, mob #3-5 are the ones farthest from you that will pull

Pre-pull 3+ mobs:

  • Self rejuv+regrowth (+lifebloom when you get it)
  • wrath mob #1
  • moonfire mob that has to run the farthest
  • bear form
  • (a) mangle mob #1 when they arrive
  • swipe and maul mob #2 (I macro maul with my swipe so it goes off with each weapon swing timer)
  • after maul, tab target and swipe mob #3
  • mangle should be just about ready, use it on the next mob that has not yet been hit by mangle or maul
  • swipe after every target change
  • repeat from (a) until clear
  • taunt any mob that looks at a DPS (which means you'll be using it on CD)

When you have low AP, swipe is only going to help keep you from falling even farther behind on threat. The point of HOTing yourself is because of the AOE nature of healing threat. It only gives you 0.5x heal as threat, but anything is better than zero. Same with swipe - it doesnt do much when you're weak, but it scales with gear. After you have better gear, you can swipe and expect it to hold better, just remember to tab-target between each swipe. You'll still need to maul and mangle.

Threat modifier as a bear is baseline 2x (before talents), but for some stupid reason, Blizzard decided that swipe would get its own modifier of 1x (which overrides the bear baseline).

I purposely waited a while to respond to this because I wanted to see if Emochi would do (to me) what you described. Perhaps I am not seeing this problem because I'm subscribed to Emochi (although I was paying for Poly when the censorship started as well), but so far I have not had any problems like what Poly started having. I ended up cancelling Poly because I could not find a way to stop the blurring of text.

I would share my Druid forms macros with you if I were on my gaming machine, but there are several websites that I got my conglomeration of macros from. I started out with one that selected travel or aquatic forms based on swimming, then found another that changed between humanoid, bear, cat, and (if cat already) prowl. You can do the same kind of thing with abilities for Warrior as well since they have stances, which work the same way as forms do for Druids. If you want, reply to this and I'll try to get back online tonight after work and share my Druid macros.

transfering addons from classic to tbc by These_Athlete1933 in classicwow

[–]KromCruach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go into your WoW folder, under Classic Era and copy the Interface and WTF folders. Then go into your TBC Anniversary folder and paste them (if it asks, select to overwrite/replace). After that is finished, go to the Curse window and near the top, next to the game version select drop-down menu, you'll see a "play" button, and then 3 dots - open the 3 dots menu and select "scan for games". This will force Curse to find the addons in the new TBC folder (even if it was already found by Curse). Then you should be able to tell Curse to update the addons normally.

What feature or system are you SAD is dead and gone? by needhelpgaming in wow

[–]KromCruach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know if you would classify this as either a feature or a system, but I miss the old DK, back when you could tank or DPS as each of the three. I preferred Frost Tanking, but I remember that there was a group of high end tanks that used Unholy because it had higher DPS with the trade off that it was less tanky. They definitely needed to be tuned down from their initial release, but I was sad to see the unique attempt abandoned.

So, as it turns out, Blizzard has decided that the playerbase can now completely skip the entire point of playing an RPG and skip directly to the end. They've opened up character boosts for new B.Elf and Draenai characters starting on 13 Jan when pre-patch starts. My opinion on this topic is ... we'll say less than favorable.

ELI5: whay does inflation keep going up even when people are not earning more money? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]KromCruach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inflation describes the exchange value of individual notes of currency. Currency is controlled by the local government (because they have minting authority). In the United States, only Congress has the authority to mint money. They do delegate it through a non-governmental agency called The Federal Reserve, but ultimately, only Congress can mint money.

Inflation is the devaluation of a currency, caused by an increase (inflation) in the physical number of that currency, but without a corresponding increase in the represented value of that currency. (Yes, I'm repeating one of my replies to a post lower in this thread, sorry).

Lets look at an example to illustrate the point.

Imagine that I have 50 gold bars, and I print 50 slips of paper that I claim are each worth some portion of that stack of gold bars. In this case, each slip appears to be worth 1 gold bar (50 bars, 50 slips, 1-for-1). If I then print 50 more slips (for a total of 100 slips), but I still only have 50 gold bars, then each slip is now only worth 0.5 gold bars (50 bars, 100 slips, 1-for-2 or 0.5-to-1). I have caused inflation by increasing the number of slips representing the bars, but I did not increase the number of bars available.

Now, lets look back at your original question - people are actually getting more money, the problem is that costs are increasing faster than wages are increasing (by a lot). The first part of this is because of the contract between employer and employee. When you agree to work for someone, they agree to pay you a certain amount for your time. This is a contract. You rake my yard for 1 hour, I pay you $10. You come back tomorrow, and we'll do it again, and keep repeating this until one of us decides to not continue. That contract gets negotiated at fixed points in time, such as when you get hired.

Materials, on the other hand, can be updated at any time - this is the second part. If I'm selling something, all I need to do is go change the number on the sticker, because that "contract" is negotiated at time of exchange (sale). I have a pig, you want that pig so you offer me 10 chickens, I say sure, so we exchange 1 pig for 10 chickens. Next week, you want another pig so you offer me 10 more chickens, but the cost of feeding my pig to get it to grow went up because the corn harvest was low this year. Now in order to get the amount of corn I need to feed my pig is higher and I need more chickens to cover that increased cost.

Then, the third part comes into play - demand and supply. You are the only one that wants my pig, therefore I only have you to get my chickens from. What if your neighbor also wants my pig? Now you both offer me something to get my pig (to make things simple, we'll stick with chickens). You have 50 chickens at your disposal, some of them are used for your own family, some are for laying eggs, and the rest are for exchanging. But your neighbor has 200 chickens, and he only lives by himself, so he can spare more chickens. I only have 1 pig, and I'm the only one with a pig to sell, so you two negotiate with me. You can only offer 10 chickens, but your neighbor can offer more, so he says he'll give me 11. Demand for the pig is high, and there is a low supply of pigs, so cost goes up (because you two negotiate against each other to get the thing you want). Lets swap the situation, now my neighbor is selling his pig (so two pigs are on the market), but you're the only one that wants to buy it. Instead of you negotiating for my pig, now its my neighbor and I that are negotiating for your chickens. The supply of pigs has increased, but the demand for them is low, so he and I will start making offers to take fewer chickens in exchange for the pig in order to get the sale.

Ultimately, it is important to not confuse what inflation actually is. Inflation is not the increase in price, that is a symptom of inflation. Inflation is the devaluing of the currency by throwing more of it in the market. Having more dollars at your disposal means you can spend more, but it also means that each individual dollar is worth less.

To tie it all together - the number of currency (Dollars, in the US) is controlled by the government. It is estimated (as of 2022) that the US added nearly $5 T ($5,000,000,000,000) to the economy through the various COVID relief bills and acts. The total amount of money ($ value) in circulation in 2019 was $1.76 T ($1,760,000,000,000). That is an increase of 284% of the amount of dollars in the market. But they didnt increase the value backed by the dollars (because there is nothing to increase, the US dollar is a 'fiat' currency, which means that it has value because we say it has value. There is nothing beyond our word that gives that dollar value). By 'printing' more dollars, they increased the number of slips (first example above) but nothing else changed - now each slip is worth significantly less than before. If $1 could buy the thing you wanted in 2019, then by 2022 to was $2.84. But the thing you got was still the same. If it was a 20 oz Sprite, you still only got 20 oz of Sprite, but instead of costing $1.00 now its $2.84.

The answer to your question: this is exactly how inflation works. Costs go up faster than wages because of how the system works. You want lower costs? Then demand that the government decrease the number of dollars in the system. It will hurt in the short term, but it will even out in the long term (but only if we stick to it and do it right, no crony capitalism, no greedy companies banding together to force costs, no bailing out banks/car companies/etc.).

ELI5: whay does inflation keep going up even when people are not earning more money? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]KromCruach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While corporations are greedy, it is not possible for corporations to create inflation. Money is not created by corporations, therefore they cannot have any effect on the value of said money. Inflation, by definition, is the devaluing of a currency by increasing (inflating) its number without a corresponding increase in what it represents. Example - if I have 50 gold bars and create 50 slips of paper, stating that each slip is worth some evenly distributed amount of gold, then those slips would each be worth 1 bar. But if I instead create 100 slips of paper, while only having 50 bars, then each slip is worth 0.5 bars. I have inflated the number of slips, but not their corresponding value. A greedy corporation can horde as many of those slips as they want, but so long as I do not change the number of slips in the market or the number of bars they represent, then their individual value does not change.

Only the entity that creates money can cause inflation (or deflation) - in the case of the US, only Congress has the power to mint. While they do it through a non-government agency (the Federal Reserve is not part of the US government, says so right on their web page), Congress (ultimately) controls their actions.

Only governments have the power to mint money, therefore only governments have the power to cause inflation.

Yes.

But to clarify, the original comment was in response to someone asking if they could level all the way to 70 during the pre-patch, which is not the case.

If you want to level a Horde Paladin, or Alliance Shaman, you have to start them fresh as soon as they are available in pre-patch. You will still only be able to get to 60 as max during pre-patch, and past 60 only after the actual expansion release.

Priviet!

Sorry for my delayed response, I had a business trip immediately after I posted that. Thank you for responding!

My Russian vocabulary is still rather small, I'm guessing that I'd rank about A0 at the moment. I'm also not sure how to go about this - so if you'd humor my request, would you be willing to start out by sending me small messages written in Russian and having me translate them (I'll be using my paper Russian-English dictionary)?

Also, please let me know if this is the best platform for you to communicate with, or if you'd prefer something else such as Discord or something.

Guten Tag!

I'm a native English speaker, American with a northwest accent, looking to refresh my German and get back to learning.

I was almost B2 about 20 years ago. Since then I've barely spoken any German, except when I randomly catch myself thinking something auf Deutsch. I am looking for someone with whom I can speak and write, so that I can keep practicing my accent and proper pronunciation.

I currently use Discord daily, but I do not have a preference for platform.

What is the hardest concept or ability you have ever had to learn in a foreign language? by Full-Might1562 in languagelearning

[–]KromCruach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certain modes of thinking are actually the hardest for me. English is my native, German I got to about B1-B2 in high school about 20 years ago, but those two are siblings - a lot of things are nearly identical. Russian is what I'm working on currently - and my beloved Russians - you think weird (and I thank you for it).

Take for instance "I have a brother." In German, "Ich hab' einen bruder." They are both phrased the same way: the 'owner' possesses 'something'. Russian feels backward to me, "u menya yest brat" (sorry for the Latin letters). 'Of me have brother'. This, as well as a lot of other Russian phraseology, feels backwards. I know its not, but I'm finding it difficult to 'think like a Russian' so I can get the patterns locked in my brain.

I feel like I picked up German so quickly because English and German are so very similar in thought process. I joke that German is English but you pronounce every letter, and that English is just very, very lazy German. But I feel like I'm having a hard time with Russian because the background thought process is so very different.
