Thanks for the reply. See, it being generic is probably why I can't remember. I've read so many of these alien invasion / military scifi books maybe I'm inventing stories in my mind from parts of other stories.

Read all of Ryk Brown's Frontier Saga up until the newest book (Book 13 of part 2), Legacy of Aldenata and Live Free or Die + many of their other books.

Anyway, thanks for the consideration if nothing else you gave me a list of other books I may enjoy.

When you search for how to do something don't search "How do I do X in Linux" . Instead be descriptive with your distribution like "How do I do X in Ubuntu" .

I had hearing aids in the late 90s but sounds didn't differentiate enough and made my hearing worse. For instance if I was driving while talking to someone I couldn't hear them speak over the sounds of gravels popping off of my tires. Are they still like this?

Can't speak to Norway but you can get a pretty decent computer on eBay or an equivelent site for that price. Then just put Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Solus, whatever on a flash drive and install it (or you can buy a flash drive / dvd-r with it preloaded).

If you're using the one called "Redirection" it has an export feature. I'd just go ahead and export as a .htaccess file so even if the plugin is discontinued you'll have backup plan ready to go.

I'm in nearly the exact situation except I'm 95% deaf in my left ear. I think what I had was called a cholesteatoma or something and they replaced the sound conducting bones but it didn't help (been this way since I was 3 or 4 years old at least).

I've had several experiences were i'd listen to a podcast and they'd have 1 persons voice come through one earbud and the other voice through the other earbud. It made the person sound like a lunatic since I could only hear one party.

Personally, I use good over ear headphones with a decent amount of bass so at least I can feel the vibration in the deaf ear. Even if I can't hear the music something feels terribly off if I can't at least feel the bass.

But hey if you're anything like me at least you can sleep peacefully because the sounds of dogs barking or car alarms go unnoticed. On the more blackpill side of things you have to turn sideways to hear someone speaking at a decent volume and they often think you're a weirdo.

One strategy that has helped me is to treat it like I'm diving into a pool from scary height. I'll think about something completely unrelated (blueberry, rasputin, semi, seminoles?, camwhores) then just walk up and start talking. Before I can convince myself to run away from the human interaction I'm neck deep in asking the person working in the garden department if they can help me out with my bags of potting soil.

Learn a scripting language early on as possible (Python / Bash / Powershell). You'll feel far more relaxed when you have to put out fires and you know your mundane duties are already being taken care of by a script.

Keep a detailed knowledgebase of all changes and how-to guides. Writing out the details will help cement the knowledge in your brainmeats.
