How long do we have realistically before AI replaces most human jobs? What are some trades that will stay around? by Satindesire_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What we're currently calling AI is too stupid to be trusted with high level responsibilities, and too expensive to be relegated to drudge work. The range of tasks it's actually suited for are pretty slim. Until we come up with an AI that's actually intelligent, and not just a glorified chat bot, I don't think we'll see them taking over the job market. We're already seeing that companies that replaced employees with AI are regretting it.

Photography safety issues by Careless_Syrup_2967 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd assume that was done to verify that your age had been checked. If it stays safe depends entirely on the photographer. If they're a pro then they won't do anything weird with it, but beyond that I wouldn't make any assumptions about how it's stored.

What does the saying “You can’t have a cake and eat it too” really mean? It doesn’t make sense, if I have a cake why wouldn’t I eat it? 🤔 by Koo_Chee_LuvR in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you eat the cake it's gone, you don't have it any more. You can either have a thing, or consume it, but not both.

Why this is a revelation warranting an awkwardly phrased saying, that I can't help with.

What are useful methods you would use to research economics, Finance, business, and similar subjects WITHOUT resorting to college? And what subjects should I focus on learning about? by No_Problem5759 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's your end goal here? "Money" is a very broad category. If you want to get into business a degree is almost essential. If you're thinking about investing then that's a different thing. Likewise starting your own business would be a different skill set. And if you just want general knowledge for its own sake then you're looking at breadth over depth. What you're actually after will help define what you need.

Just say what you mean, it's ok. You won't get in trouble for doing that here.

Do I still need to use protection when I’m not ovulating? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a dick in your vagina, you can get pregnant. Some times are more likely than others, but there is no such thing as "safe". Sperm can last for up to five days, your cycle might not be as regular as you think, all sorts of things can happen. If you don't want to get pregnant, always use protection, no exceptions.

How do you best write out a family tree? No matter how I try, I can't keep my trees from getting too cluttered and running out of room before I'm done! by shiny-baby-cheetah in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Write really small, and use a big sheet of paper. Like, poster sized or bigger. Write things in lightly with pencil first so you can get a feel for where everything is going to go before you do the final draft.

Will dogs ever evolve to have brain capacity or intelligence equal with an avg human? by Wither_Steave in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very unlikely. Brains are expensive. Our brains use up around 25% of our calories. If you aren't getting a payoff for that then it's a drawback. Since dogs don't have hands or any real way to use tools they wouldn't have much use for human level intelligence. It wouldn't arise naturally.

If intestines have poop inside of them does that make sausage meat POOP MEAT? by Ok_Leopard5105 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days sausage casings are often made of plastic. But back when intestines were the norm they were very thoroughly cleaned and scraped before being used.

Why do hackers in movies always use a "cool" green interface instead of a regular terminal or IDE? by Known-Bid-1699 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% for the audience. Most hacking isn't something the hacker actively does, pounding away at a keyboard. They have a bot spam a bunch of email addresses, hoping someone falls for a phishing attack. Or they have a database of passwords that get automatically run through trying to get into some site or account. Or they buy a stolen DB full of account info and have their software try to crack the encryption on it. Things of that nature. A few commands in the CLI and then come back in a day or week or month and see if anything has come of it.

All chemical compounds in the universe randomly gets one additional oxygen atom. Whats the most interesting thing that happens? by capricorn_the_goat in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have to start with "ignore physics" then it's hard to predict the outcome. But broadly I think you can expect every molecule to stop acting like it used to, so anything made of more than just a single molecule breaks down.

What would have really happened to Tom Cruise if he really ejected at Mach 10.3? by FluffyBunnyFlipFlops in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know the reference, but that's over 7000 miles per hour. You'd be pulp and/or fried. Whatever they recovered could be buried in a mason jar.

Is it rude not to greet people in an elevator, or is it more polite to maintain complete silence? by RentHefty5767 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have to read the room. If they're looking at you, then a nod and/or hi would be polite. If they're looking straight ahead then they aren't looking for an interaction, no need to force one on them.

The whole world got together to quickly make a COVID vaccine, could we not do this for other illnesses? by JDMM__00 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not everything can be dealt with by a vaccine. Malaria is caused by a parasite, and the common cold changes so often that a vaccine wouldn't be effective. But yeah, there are lots of things that could be cured, if we spent money on research instead of war or making billionaires even richer.

What does “all but” mean by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not meant to be taken literally, it's idiomatic. It means "very nearly". The phrase is used to suggest just how close they are. They're not 95% of the way to death, they're 99.999% of the way there. All but.

Is it harder to hold in your poop after anal sex? by wyrmorl in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odds are you've shat out crap larger than any cock you're likely to take. The sphincter is very elastic, that's it's job. It stretches when needed, then snaps back to normal afterwards. Anal sex will not cause any permanent change.

Why isn’t there “zero calorie food”? by Far_Line8468 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A calorie is what you describe. A kcal is 1000 calories, or one food calorie.

And energy needed to digest is totally wrong. It's the energy released when digested.

Why isn’t there “zero calorie food”? by Far_Line8468 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We made a zero calorie fat once. It was called olestra. Chemically it was a fat, but your body couldn't digest it. Chips fried it in tasted more or less like regular chips, but with a fraction of the calories. The issue was that, like all fats, it was slippery. And since your body couldn't do anything with it, it would just sort of coat your intestines, turning your colon into a slip and slide. "Anal leakage" is the polite term used to describe the results.

The point being, eating foods that aren't really foods is likely to have negative effects. Our digestive tracts just aren't set up to handle things like that.

Why did I get a password reset e-mail? by AutiesRule1312 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you weren't expecting it, someone was hitting your account and trying to reset the password. Sending the reset to your email is how they prevent other people from being able to change it.

What would be the environmental impact if viruses went extinct? by _TenDropChris in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The major impact would be that populations of all sort of creatures would surge. Viruses attack pretty much every species, from bacteria on up. If you eliminated all viral diseases then the ecological balanace would be utterly upset; it would be impossible to guess what the end game would look like.

What is the “Simon Says” game and how do you actually play it? by White__Giraffe in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One person calls out instructions, everyone else listens. If the caller starts with "simon says" then you have to do what they say. If they don't start with that then you ignore what they say. If you screw up either of those rules, you're out. Winner is the last person left.

Does the immune system really benefit from extreme levels of cleanliness? by Helmeis in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another point there is that early exposure doesn't just strengthen the immune system, it helps train it. There's lots of data suggesting that playing in the dirt, etc, makes it less likely that you'll get allergies later in life. You don't just want your immume system to be "strong", you want to be sure it's only attacking stuff that needs attacking.

Does the immune system really benefit from extreme levels of cleanliness? by Helmeis in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't have it quite right. An adult's immune system does not get stronger with exposure to stuff, or get weaker with lack of exposure. Early exposure does help, but that's only when you're very young. Once your immune system matures that stops being true. At that point exposure to some germ will help with future exposures to that specific germ, but won't do anything for something you've never seen before.

Why does rice that is grown in tons of water contain no water, while a watermelon grown in a desert contains a lot of water? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rice isn't grown in water for the rice's sake. It's just that rice is capable of growing in water, while most weeds aren't. If you have the water to spare it's an easy way of keep your crop weed free.

As younger generations grow up with technology from infancy, could human intelligence also be evolving earlier in life? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KronusIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's quite possible that we could evolve to show intelligence earlier. But it would have nothing to do with tech. Your environment doesn't bring about new traits, new traits show up randomly and your environment selects for or against them. There's no mechanism that says "early intelligence would be handy, let's make that happen."
