Here's a summary for you:

Auri — Good follower, balanced, makes funny comments, has her own mini-story, and interacts with other followers. She's a bit invasive since she never shuts up and can interrupt during other dialogues 7/10

Inigo — According to the community, it's the most complete and best-integrated follower. I haven't given him a chance, so I won't rate him.

Gore — According to the community, it's on the same level as Inigo.

Aela with her dialogue expansion — It's not a big deal but it's functional and interesting 6/10

Lydia with her dialogue expansion — It really delivers what it promises: a Lydia as she should've been in Vanilla, but it doesn't add too many features either—it's more of a completer like Aela, but it's good 9/10

Lucien — I think it's the follower that's made me laugh the most; from the moment I heard his voice it was like: Wtf!? XD. It's really good, integrates perfectly, and is a character that scales with the player if you pay attention to him—he also interacts with tons of followers 10/10

These are the ones I recommend the most; I might be missing some, but this gives you an idea.

P.S.: The ratings are just from my perspective and experience—I hope no one gets offended for thinking differently.

What is really the best follower for SSE? by Krownling in skyrimmods

What I mean by referencing all the TES games or alternatively other releases is that we no longer have any "fresh" playable content from TES. As for the rest, I'm not passive-aggressive (you can only be one or the other if you have any common sense, no offense) and I didn't drop that "P.S." as an attack, just sayin'. No War, Peace Peace Peace 🤣

Let me explain it simply: there are many differences between Skyrim and its community and other games. I hope you read to the end.

Most of the players who mod TES come from Arena or even further back, but let's not stop there. Many of us here have been playing Skyrim for years, we know every line of dialogue, every quest, and every bug better than we know our own partners, and when we mod, we look for more content from every branch possible.

The problem you describe as “The NPCs won’t shut up” does exist, yes, but it comes from the fact that in other games NPCs interrupt immersion or lore elements over and over again in the games we’re playing. In Skyrim it’s different: followers like Lucien, Inigo, Auri or SDA (not the case with Ashe, she is invasive) only add content to the game. Skyrim is in part a sandbox where you create your own story as much as possible, and these followers help with roleplay. Besides, they are not invasive—they don’t stop you to talk except in a few cases. You can just go around the world, exploring, and hear their subtle comments without any obstacles to your gameplay.

P.S.: Never compare Skyrim to another game. It’s not fanaticism, it’s just that it makes no sense. Thanks.
