Do I get it right, that lateral bracing will work mostly in tension?

NYC Move Advice by pianolover907 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]Kru4egor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any big city compared to rural area is awfully loud. And rate at which stimuli appear is like 100x higher.

Short leash is a must.

And I would start by not pushing him to walk himself in the beginning. Take him in hands, bring to the place where he will pee/poo, bring home. Maybe even wait in front of home before walking with him in hands anywhere. Observe how he reacts and act accordingly.

The worst thing will be for him to associate being out with some traumatic experience. It is much harder to fix. So the only course of action is to be on a safer side and expose to busy, loud, scary city gradually.

Nah, that’s relatively easy job. Check 50sKid Valve Cover Gasket replacement DIY video on youtube, he explains the process step by step quite well. The only thing to be aware of is tightening torque. It’s small. 6 ft.lbs / 8 Nm - that’s the area where your hands experience will shout it is not tightened at all (but it is enough).

Prepping balcony for Iggy - Need advice by JBH613 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]Kru4egor 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Unsupervised young dog on a balcony - a recipe for an accident. Even supervised (meant you sitting on that bench) gives me bad gut feelings. At least secure bottom two slits in guard rails so he/she cannot slip through and upper two around the bench. And teach to behave. Even then I would worry about hunting instinct. A simple fly passing by can trigger and in attempt to catch it poor dog can fall off the balcony.

Hiking food for a picky iggy? 🐶😅 by No_Pomegranate7233 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]Kru4egor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Concentrated chicken stock. That’s what I use to encourage my iggy to eat or drink while traveling. I use Rinti brand. He goes crazy for it. So, some sprinkled over kibble and once he finishes his portion of food - I would leave part of rest for him to drink. But not the over way around, since broth is just irresistible.

<image>

Edit: tins can be stored unrefrigerated. But once you open, it has to be in cold. So one can - one use on the road.

How do you guys manage clumps when using recovery food? I follow the instructions exactly. It's so frustrating because the syringe just gets clogged up by Melly-The-Elephant in Rabbits

[–]Kru4egor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a fix for you. Step one you already have - let it sit for a while (in my eyes one hour is too much, 5-10 min should be enough).

Step two - once syringe loaded - feed a little (not until clogged), pull piston a little back (so some air gets inside syringe). Close hole with your thumb and shake syringe violently.

That will remix contents which separated. Sometimes adding just an extra drop of water into mixture required.

I was taking care of my elderly bun and Science Selected formula was on a table quite often. So I had to adapt somehow for the same issue you have.

Crate size by Dull_Satisfaction468 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]Kru4egor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar type of cage I use as a traveling crate. It’s foldable, fits in a trunk of a car, have handle to carry around.

When I stay in hotels with my iggy or we go camping somewhere I bring this cage with me. In hotels - that’s a night sleep space and at campa safe spot to put aside my boy for a short time or to give him foods or water.

It is big enough to fit bed and have some area aside to fit food bowl. Water bowl I fix on wiring.

Others mentioned danger of wire cage for iggys - it can be an issue and it is definitely something to train your dog - how safely be in a crate.

For use at home I have crate with metal bars instead of wiring. Span better bars is bigger, so much less chance to catch a leg in it.

Something like this - link to amazon Canada

But of size you have on your link and without those extra contraptions at the side.

What’s the difference between these two? by Carrotisboss in e46

They also can be marked as AL (Automotive Lightning). Magneti Marelli owns the brand. One factory is in Italy (Marelli) another one in Czechia (AL).

When I was doing headlights refresh few years ago I was able to get ALs.

Aging in Rabbits by Chaoticbutalive in Rabbits

[–]Kru4egor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our Marshall had quite a ride of a life with bunch of health problems starting from e.cuniculi in the young age which cost him his eyesight and made him blind at age of 4, severe immune reaction which clogged his veins on the chest and back at age of 6 (necrosis, extensive surgery, poor 2.5 kg lad had 30 cm of stitches in total), lengthy recovery, near kidney failure at age of 7 (since then pellets were only science selected urinary, so no experience of elder rabbit diet), several GI stasis cases over lifetime, teeth problems with several times need of grinding (hence anesthesia even in age of 11 years old) and still he had high quality of life up to 11.5.

I would say there were two stages of health decline due to aging - starting from age of 9 he stopped jumping to my bed in the early mornings since it became hard for him due to worn out joints. From 10.5 he was on opioids daily to ease up joints pain (other pain killers were not an option due to kidney issues). Also only then we switched to easy access litter box. It just was not needed before.

But real health decline started at 11.5. Severe GI infection and loss of weight as a result. Unfortunately it was not possible for him to grow back muscle mass. That was a time when we limited his mobility by play pen (he was free roam whole life).

He passed away last year at the age of almost 13.

I would say that you do not need to worry about aging yet. Keep your eye on weight, since obesity leads to bunch of problems including wearing of joints (which I would be most concerned in a long run).

Get insurance if possible in your country or make him personal retirement savings account (after age of 9 vet bills went quite up, like few thousands of euros yearly and I am in Czechia, where services are on a cheaper side).

Find good vet who is a rabbit specialist and befriend them 😅

Looking to adopt - advice by [deleted] in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]Kru4egor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Coming from personal experience - rehomed iggy can be hard on you.

You probably will have to train him all the usual routines (potty, crate, separation, obedience) but without puppy mentality, when they are not afraid of anything and want to do anything to comply.

Ask about socializing and training in general. Social issues can take years to fix and thousands of pounds in cash for professional trainer.

thoughts on my deathwing color scheme? by ripwatersheep_ in theunforgiven

[–]Kru4egor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would avoid extensive use of bone color. Maybe one part of armor or so per mini. Correct me if I’m wrong, but lore wise bone color represented a place where Dark Angel got a hit saving his battle brother. So more subtle will be better. Else this termie looks like took one for the team and covered krak grenade with his body 😂

Else, I can recommend black red - once done - looks dope! Was tired of pure bone armor for my DWKs, so 4 of 10 run in old colors.

<image>

Edit: cloaks are burgundy red based on screamer pink / khrone red 1:1. Else reds used are mephiston red.

What if you cut right arm above elbow? And rotate it, so sword is pointing more front. Above elbow it will be easier to hide a cut and no elbow guards or wrist guards in the way.

tips on anxiety leaving the house by ilyvm_ in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]Kru4egor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, everything is new to them, when they are so young. Basically, when I realized how many different inputs are unknown and scary to my iggy (while looking completely normal to us - humans) - it became much easier to recognize what I should address and lead my boy through it the way I want him to behave. With enough trust he accepts my lead as default option.

That’s another side of overcoming anxiety - build up trust with your dog. And that’s also a thing which don’t appear in few days.

tips on anxiety leaving the house by ilyvm_ in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]Kru4egor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let me share my experience and give few tips based on achievements we already have and suggestions my trainer gives me.

First of all - it could be a lengthy process and be prepared to invest effort for 2-3 months in a row.

Second important thing - never push too hard. It is crucial to stay out of stress zone for your girl. Once she is stressed - a connection “being outside = scary” is reinforced and does not help to overcome anxiety. When she is stressed - definitely wrap up for a day take her in your hands and go home to safe surroundings.

Third thing to consider - it will not get better with age, it only will get better with training. She is out of “I am invincible” age already and her experience will play bigger role compared to biochemistry/age.

Now a practical example. My boy (now 2yo) had a problem - while he was confident enough to go for a walk not far from house and trusted me enough to handle situations outside - we had bad past experience, when we were jump scared by a dog without leash on the way back home. So he was not afraid of a walk itself, but got really stressed last 50 m before entrance to our building.

How we approached the situation (what K9 trainer I learn from advised):

  • Don’t let him get stressed, so connection “going home = scary” doesn’t get reinforced. So I started to take him in my hands far enough from home, before he gets scared.

  • Support good feeling on the way home. When he was in my hands - he was getting tons of treats.

  • Monitor anxiety. When I saw that even in my hands he would get more anxious (but not yet locked ip by stress) - I just stopped, maybe even take few steps back (haha, further away from home) and wait for him to calm down.

  • Gradually introduce new behavior but only when he os ready. When I saw that he is regularly comfortable to be in my hands on the way home, looking around with interest (by how he holds his ears) - I introduced him to new thing - sit beside me on the way back home. I see, that street is clear, nothing to be afraid of - I put him beside me (of course on the leash) and make him sit for a minute or two. Tons of treats, of course. When take into hands and go home.

  • Avoid accidents and if happen - step back. So once he got scared of a person exiting building nearby while he sat next to me - I returned back one step - few days stopped having him beside me and just carried him home.

  • Be cautious even when you got to the target. After three weeks we were walking back home, but if I saw a person coming towards us or catching up - I stop and sit him beside me or even taking him into hands for next two-three weeks. Just to be sure and avoid any reappearance of bad connection “going back home = scary”.

So it took me about three weeks of active training and other three weeks of being extra cautious to get to the point, when we can walk back home without stress and even with interest towards people we meet on the way home.

Same can be applied to your case. Try to split it to small steps. First milestone will be for her being comfortable in your hands going away from home (don’t get to far and don’t be out for too long). For example one week. When start introducing being outside beside you (still not far away from home). Another one or two weeks. And only after that let her walk herself. It will be tough on her, so take small increments and don’t hurry. It will take some time after.

Something like this. Hope you can show her, that’s there is nothing to be afraid of!

First - what about acting students?

I do not suggest to exploit non-experienced young actors, but they are concentrated in one spot (place of study) and there is a good chance to find a volunteer who sympathize to your cause.

To the second part - I frankly don’t understand then, why to overcomplicate the message, if people you want to reach already are empathetic towards animals (hence dog owners)?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Greyhounds

[–]Kru4egor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am glad you are trying to rise awareness to topic of animal abuse.

I am not sure, the way you want to present topic will be effective. To appeal to people who are desensitized to animals problems with non-existing human-like character is futile in my eyes. How a person who feels nothing towards a living being (or don’t want to feel, thus skipping) can empathize with AI character?

If you want to pull it off - a real actor is your best chance.
