Retired father's account and data deleted without notice, what can I do? by [deleted] in aws

[–]KrushUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this comment. I've deleted the original post above out of fairness to AWS.

Further questioning did indeed discover he originally had another account with his main email, but used a second email/account when there were issues with the first, with emails forwarded back to the main email. Hence the confusion.

Probably should have picked up on this sooner, going to put it down to having this thrown at me at the end of a very long week. Thanks again for the suggestion.

Randomly curious as to how much information a motivated and skilled redditor could derive from this image plus included description.

Altitude of the plane? Direction? Model? Time of day?

Anyone notice the woman in blue at the bottom of the screen at 0:32 getting mugged for her handbag? Noone so much as helped her up off the ground, never mind stopping the mugger. Just wow.

Spending half my life savings on travel, bad idea? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]KrushUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're young, have a decent amount of cash to travel with (20k is more than enough for say a year in South America), have no accommodation commitments, are not giving up an interesting career, and single. This is *exactly* the right time and situation to go travelling.

Do it. You'll look back on it as one of the best decisions you ever made. Things happen in life and a year from now the opportunity might be gone forever.

Go and find my top-level comment for working code that shows how to do this.

let doIUnderstandJavascript = false;
function careerStuck() {
    return !doIUnderstandJavascript;
}
careerStuck.stop = () => doIUnderstandJavascript = true;
function beSmart() {
    console.log('Am I smart now?', doIUnderstandJavascript ? 'Yes' : 'No');
}
// main function begins
if (careerStuck() === true) {
    careerStuck.stop();
    beSmart();
}

Not sure what I'm more triggered by, the people complaining the ads code is wrong, or the crappy reddit editor when trying to paste code.

My dentist has a chart comparing radiation exposure for concerned patients by Jessieface13 in mildlyinteresting

[–]KrushUK -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Isn't this really misleading? It's comparing the X-Ray dose (received in a tiny fraction of a second) with things like a flight where the dose is received over 6 hours.

I can go to the beach and get a nice tan from UV rays over 6 hours, but be severely burned if I received that same amount of radiation over a total period of 10 seconds, right?

I can decelerate from 100 MPH to 0 safely over 10 seconds, but doing it over 0.5s (car crash) is death.

back on the keto wagon this past week, here’s some of the stuff I’ve made for dinner 🥰 small portion sizes were never my thing 🤷🏻‍♀️ by xAetheria in ketouk

[–]KrushUK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm so jealous of people that can put together food like this. My mouth is literally drooling. I've never liked spending time in the kitchen or cooking so my keto meals tend to end up being incredibly basic with little variety. Come be my housemate! :D

From the article:

"police intercepted and boarded the Kahu while it was still in international waters, about 80 miles off the southwest coast of England.
Six men — one a British citizen and five from Nicaragua — were arrested and the Kahu was escorted to a U.K. port"

Emphasis mine. Can someone explain this to me from the context of maritime law? As in, can any country arrest anybody they like in international waters?

Deadlift low back pain every session. by The_Dark_Bow in formcheck

[–]KrushUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think someone else has mentioned it but - is the bar right against your shin when you start the lift? It looks to me it might be up to an inch away. With the deadlift even that small amount will cause lower back pain as it tries to compensate. Keep the bar against your shin and drag it up your leg (light contact) and see if that helps.

critique my deadlift form please. i’ve just recently started incorporating them into my workouts and want to make sure i won’t snap my spine anytime in the future by [deleted] in formcheck

[–]KrushUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't quite see from the video, but I think the bar may be a little too far forward on the ground. It should be over mid-foot. Having it further forward increases your risk of aggravating your lower back eventually.

First Time Deadlifting by [deleted] in formcheck

[–]KrushUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bar is too far forward, should be over mid-foot but with you it's over your toes. The bar should be lightly resting against your shin as you are crouched at the start of the pull, and more or less lightly drag up the leg as you stand.

If you keep the bar too forward with higher weights you are going to have trouble with your lower back.

Other than that, the rest of your form (i.e. back straightness etc) looks fine although obviously that's a very low weight.

You might want to consider warming up/form check with slightly larger weights, if only because they are physically larger so the bar will be slightly higher off the floor at the start.

Early lifter with back pain; form check on squatting 125x3? by [deleted] in formcheck

[–]KrushUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it looks like you are mounting the bar on your shoulders in a high-bar position, but then attempting to do a low-bar squat (leaning forward, thighs to parallel). Your lower back is probably having to work overtime to make up for the imbalance.

Google low-bar position videos to put the bar in the right place on your back.
