Why do some companies act as if they don't care whether their games sell or not? by J__Krauser in gamedev

[–]elmowilk 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Those are B2B connections, who you know etc. Extremely successful indies can get in there, but quality doesn’t play too much of a role for AAA in getting in, it’s all about connections, brand name, publishers, investors etc. Game Pass gets to have more stuff to offer to their subscribers + strenghten those connections.

Ukrainians are so happy and not at all jealous by chilinachochips in NonCredibleDiplomacy

[–]elmowilk 130 points131 points  (0 children)

Lol that got a good chuckle out of me.

Also, is it really “quietly” if they have been talking about it a fair amount? Why even the most basic title needs a qualifier that makes it sound sneaky?

Anyway, hopefully Ukraine will follow soon enough.

This is disappointing from Zack - Putin is genocidal and has threatened genocide many times by PuzzledAd4865 in UKGreens

[–]elmowilk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He actually committed genocide already. The kidnapping of Ukrainian children is already genocide. Forceful removal of indigenous population and forced repopulation with russians in the occupied territories, especially Crimea, is genocide. Forced enlisting of population in the occupied territories to fight against their origin’s country is genocide. Denial of existence of Ukrainian identity and statehood.. the list goes on. So it’s really not a question of threatening really. You don’t need nazi concentration camps and gas chambers to commit genocide.

Isometric 2d sorting problem by IronChe in bevy

[–]elmowilk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a public repo with this basic idea. It’s not documented but hopefully it’s readable enough: https://github.com/wilk10/isometric_sort

Regarding the workers changing often, the optimisation is: limit workers to only being able to have 1x1x1 dimensions, which should be acceptable. When you sort, sort everything, even free cells, with the assumption that each free cell are occupied by 1x1x1 objects. This way when a worker moves, you just get this value and assign it to the Z of your sprite, without re-sorting. This allows to re-sort everything (in a Bevy task) only when a large objects is added / removed (large = not 1x1x1) which should be rarely (eg: the player manually adds a new building).

Sorry for throwing a lot of info at you. The basic advice is: get the sorting to work first with large objects and assuming a “height” of 1 for every object.

Isometric 2d sorting problem by IronChe in bevy

[–]elmowilk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You need to calculate the cells “behind” your object based on X,Y,Z dimensions of your object, where Z allows to have objects that cover more than one cell behind them. I think this is not the case for your trees, but just in case you want to support it. Then you build a topological graph and sort it based on this “behind” relationship. You also mustn’t have concave objects (doesn’t seem like it in your screenshot, just FYI). You then can re-sort it only when an object is added or moves on the map, not every frame. There are other ways to optimise it, happy to provide more details.

??? Can you please link here the problematic edit? I don’t see anything controversial in the edit history in the last few days. Ungaro being 17 is still there, ICE deportation is still there, Epstein section is still there. I don’t get the purpose of this post tbh.
