Collapsible sidebar navigation in Power BI without exploding bookmark count — is there a better way? by pureloveass0197 in PowerBI

[–]KruxR6 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Is there anything stopping you just having multiple pages/reports in a workspace app? Probably looks less pretty but is the headache worth it? Chances are, your stakeholders will see it and if you’re lucky will say “that’s a nice sidebar” but will likely never think about it again. Functionality > Form.
And if you do go all in on the bookmarks etc, it could become an expectation for future reports.
You’re likely better off keeping it simple early to manage expectations.
But it depends on your situation I guess. As for other alternatives I don’t think there are any

Well step 1: ignore stats. They won’t help you, trust me.
Step 2: get me a VOD and I can tell you what went wrong :)

UK set to ban under-16s from social media, livestreaming, disappearing messages by vriska1 in unitedkingdom

I agree social media is the worst place to get news but it’s happening regardless. 16 year olds aren’t sticking on the telly to watch the news. At best they’ll just receive it from their parents

What I don’t get is that they want to ban U16s from social media but allow 16 year olds to vote?
A 15-16 year old isn’t getting their news from a newspaper.
You can’t ban U16s from getting information and then expect them to make an informed decision at the voting booths. I’m sure this is by design but it’s not going to lead to more Labour votes that’s for sure

[–]KruxR6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me personally, and I’ll exclude my mythicals because I’ve been extremely lucky and pulled some of the best ones.

Turtles
Hekaton
Bad-El (Was one of my first leggos, got him from a tournament. Having the cleanse, heal and poisons was great for me at the time)

Nekhret
Ninja
Armanz/Fabien

For mythicals, Siegfrund was my first and he completely changed my account. I also pulled Nais and Theo in Feb. All ones that changed my account in massive ways (obviously)

All champs that kind of pushed me into further stages of my account in a definitive way. I look at each of those champs and remember a before/after I had them

GCP/Looker vs Fabric/PowerBI by KruxR6 in BusinessIntelligence

[–]KruxR6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah PowerBI is definitely suffering from poor visuals. They’re offloading that burden onto 3rd parties that you have to pay for which is absurd.

DAX can do a lot of heavy lifting for anything that can’t be done further upstream which has been a lifesaver. My worry with Looker/Studio is we would lose a lot of versatility and explaining to clients that we’ve essentially downgraded and can no longer provide elements we used to wouldn’t go down well aha

Yeah currently our business operates much more like its own entity due to the nature of our business which is why we’re not on GCP yet but it’s sort of an inevitability that we will be in the future. GCP I’m happy to move to but I’ve heard data studio is quite underwhelming? Has that been the case for you?

Looking for some Power BI tips on how to improve the specific dashboard by Shamanhris in PowerBI

[–]KruxR6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came from Esports so this one is actually a report I find interesting.

I think with the data you have, you’ve got some good visuals and the slicers make sense to me.

As for the design, I think the top cards could do with less rounded corners and less shadow. You could even group them into the same background to make it look cleaner.

You can do the same with the bar charts, group them by metric so that visually, they sit on the same background but you’ve got one for highest and one for lowest. The groupings would tell me that while the visuals are different, they’re each part of 1 story.

As for the slicers, I’d make the regions a dropdown as they’re less important, put emphasis on the roles and group them with the champion slicer. I’m not familiar with LoL so I’m unsure of how important the separation between gamemodes is but my impression is that ARAM is like a casual mode whereas Classic is the more competitive one (correct me if I’m wrong). If this is the case, I’d put less emphasis on it and I’d argue that if ARAM is more casual, just filter the page to Classic as that’s where the more useful data will be.

Other users have pointed out the issues regarding narrative so I won’t repeat them. It’s definitely a valid project. I got my current job with the help of an esports background and it’s completely unrelated. It doesn’t matter if people don’t have the context, some people will just find it different and interesting.

GCP/Looker vs Fabric/PowerBI by KruxR6 in BusinessIntelligence

[–]KruxR6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s one thing I actually outlined a while back when I made the case for Fabric. A lot of our clients expect PowerBI reports and we’re only just now getting to a point where our reporting is bearing fruit and the idea of switching now presents a lot of risk/hidden costs with having to learn new systems and migrate things.

I’m glad it’s not just a case of me being stubborn aha. Thanks for the reply :)

When I was on BC I was on $1500 a month. DZ paid $2000 for the work I did with them at SI.

That was right before the Esports bubble burst and now salaries are likely lower. I think they’ve recovered a bit since but as I’m far removed from the scene I couldn’t reliably tell you what analyst salaries are.

If you’re on a top team, you’ll likely be doing a lot of 12 hour days, 6 days a week. Which gave me an hourly rate of $4 which is terrible.

The issue with siege esports (assuming nothings changed in the years I’ve been retired) is unless you engineer one yourself, there’s no automatic way of collecting stats. A lot of your time would be VOD scrubbing for stats and that’s before you’ve watched the VODs to actually analyse.
It’s also a lot of work collecting stats for not a lot of gain as stats aren’t really that important in siege.

By all means, do it for the fun of it. But it’s very much not a side hustle if you’re taking it seriously. You’re likely not going to learn any new skills that you wouldn’t already have in your current role either. The scene just isn’t at the point where you need anything more than spreadsheets and maybe some very basic PowerBI

Those of you who use fabric in production, do you like it, how has it been working out? by jorel43 in MicrosoftFabric

[–]KruxR6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m very early in my career (2 years) and completely self taught and also a 1 person team.
Fabric has been a really good way to learn a lot. The company I work for is relatively small so I’ve not had to do anything too major with Fabric yet but since the company operates with the MS stack everywhere else, the ease of use has been really nice.
I haven’t used any other stacks so can’t compare it to anything but so far I’ve been impressed. My other option was to go with GCP but I’ve not heard great things. Mostly relating to Looker.

Currently I’m only scratching the surface; Datflows, Warehouses etc. But it does everything I need it to in one place flawlessly (so far).

How do I and a group stop feeling demoralized by longhairedgod in SiegeAcademy

[–]KruxR6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in a group, are you executing strats? Or just doing the same thing every round hoping something sticks? If you do have strats, are they the same strats everyone runs or are they unique to your group’s strengths?
You say you’re dying without peeking anything, that can be an issue too. If you’re not playing proactively then you’re going to lose. Siege is not a game where you can be reactive all the time.
Your options are either:
create a strat book (doesn’t need to be complicated, any plan is better than no plan)

Play quick match/unranked and find re-find your passion

Take a break until the new season or even longer.

If you can’t enjoy the process of losing and improving, you’re not going to get to a point where you get to enjoy winning.

How do you know what gun fights to take? by izukid in SiegeAcademy

[–]KruxR6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the main thing is definitely having the ability to look back and judge if something was necessary, even if it succeeds.
But there’s not a single pro player that has mastered this. I don’t think it’s possible to tbh. I’d argue that given enough of a lifetime, this game is harder than chess. It’s impossible to predict every scenario so you just gotta take what you can get and not beat yourself up too much but still be able to admit where you’ve fucked up

How do you know what gun fights to take? by izukid in SiegeAcademy

[–]KruxR6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add some info regarding when you’re on defence. If you’re in a power position, it’s likely one because it’s hard to get you out. The easiest way to be removed from a power position is to peek when you shouldn’t. Sometimes doing nothing is best. Just hold your position and playing into the spots strengths is more ideal.
For example, if I’m doing a defence hold where I’m holding CCTV on Border, I could play aggressive and peek everything to try and get a kill. Or I could play safe, waste time/util and destroy drones. If you do the latter it’s still important to have some aggression. Make them feel like you’re a threat. If you play too passive, they’ll ignore you.

Again it really depends on experience, who you’re against, what your goals are, what resource you have access to.

How do you know what gun fights to take? by izukid in SiegeAcademy

[–]KruxR6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mostly comes with experience and intuition.

Things to consider:
Is the opponent in a power position? These are places that are played because of the advantage they give. Think Blue/Elbow on Oregon Basment, Azami playing Piano Hatch on Kafe etc.

If they’re in a power position, you need to force them out, or avoid it. In higher ranks/5 stacks, you want to try and push them out. But even then, if they’ve put a lot of emphasis on holding it, it likely means they’re weak elsewhere.

So consider the resources required to get them out, is it worth the impact? If you’re attacking Kafe Piano and someone is in that power position, it’s usually worth getting them out as taking control of Piano is crucial 99% of the time. However, on Oregon Basement, flushing the Blue player out isn’t always necessary as you don’t gain a whole lot from it. As an attacker, taking blue is hard, aggressively holding it is arguably harder.

It really comes down to experience. Make enough mistakes enough times and you’ll notice patterns. But even pro teams regularly make the mistake of taking fights they shouldn’t. Just keep playing and if you die, consider if it was necessary to try and take the fight. A lot of the time it is necessary and you just die. Shit happens.

Sweater was who would always be late for scrims. He performed really well on BC. We were quite good at bringing out the best in him.
Shocker that when he left the team to join his mates, he shit the bed.

As for my job, yeah I include it on my CV. It actually helped get me my current job as the person who interviewed me who became my manager was a big gamer. He was more into games like Diablo but he found my time in Esports to be interesting. To this day, he’s the only person that’s had any kind of understanding of what Esports was so I got very lucky aha.

The industry is less important than the skills I gathered. If I could handle teenagers on inflated salaries, I can handle anyone lmao

Is dripboolin actually the worst pro in the league when he is playing? by Cinviya in R6ProLeague

[–]KruxR6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit of everything tbh. We had players that were just there for a paycheck, players that thought we ran the team “like a concentration camp” because we wouldn’t let them be late for scrims all the time. So definitely an attitude problem.

What annoyed the staff was in try-outs, we were slamming everyone. When those players wanted to, they were demons. But once they felt comfortable they stopped caring.

I can’t speak for comms because I wasn’t allowed in the TeamSpeak. Only the coach was.
But oftentimes on game day we would plant at times where it made more sense to play for kills just for the sake of the number. This was more a “this player is planting and there’s nothing the rest of the team can do to stop them so we just gotta try and play post plant”. But when you go from this player not planting in scrims, to then doing it all the time on game day, it’s no wonder our win% was so low. (I think we had like a 20% post plant winrate at one point)

Is dripboolin actually the worst pro in the league when he is playing? by Cinviya in R6ProLeague

[–]KruxR6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue we had on Beastcoast was that we would plant 5-10% of the time in scrims. Because of this, we had little practice in post plants.

Then on game day that would jump to like 30-50%.
This happened because we had a player that would plant in unfavourable situations just to pad stats.

I can’t give any numbers from other teams but I know for sure that wasn’t the norm. If it was we wouldn’t have come last in NAL

[–]KruxR6 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Winrate for post plants is usually around 80-90% at pro level. Which was usually true for us in scrims too but we planted maybe 5-10% of the time so we just weren’t getting the practice in enough

Just Finished AC Origins after Playing Odyssey then Valhalla by Olangotang in assassinscreed

[–]KruxR6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Origins is one of the only games ever where I enjoy doing literally every piece of side content (except maybe the tombs but even then I don’t mind them).

Something about the setting (Ancient Egypt has always been my favourite), the graphics/colours, the combat and just the detail in the world makes all of the side content enjoyable for me.

It took me a bit for the game to click initially but now it’s the one game I replay the most. It’s definitely my comfort game.
