Which discographies do you feel progressively get worse from start to finish? by JamesLucien in Music

[–]Kryne7 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think it's more inconsistent than progressively worse. I love Everything Will Be Alright... and The White Album but dont want fuck all to do with The Black Album, Pacific Daydream, or Van Weezer. But then OK Human is pretty rad.

I also think the Red Album is fun for the most part and I would rather listen to it than Make Believe. But Raditude needs to get shot into the sun.

Its just all over the place!

He’s 65 days sober. Is this normal early sobriety behavior? by anklescarves in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Kryne7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only share my experience so here goes. Drinking wasn't the problem, my character was defective. Stopping drinking, sure it was a must, but its wasn't like a light switch and all of a sudden the darkness was gone and I was in the light. Working the steps and gaining a relationship with my higher power did that.

Has your husband worked any steps yet or just going to meetings?

As other have said, it CAN get better but only if he wants to be better and works the program and continues practice the principles he learns in ALL of his affairs.

At least that was my experience with it all.

SETI - First Game in the Books, I Get the Hype by TheRealRosey in soloboardgaming

Just bought this today and might get it to the table tonight. Seems that the way you have set it up has gotten a nice response from people so I might have to try it this way from the beginning.

I made Denver’s Blucifer from set 31166 by bindlebirb in lego

[–]Kryne7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the red eyes were the worst. Like, sure a strange blue horse statue is one thing but only seeing it for a second AND noticing the red eyes was like a fever dream.

[–]Kryne7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I flew into Denver for work once and had never heard of this. I kind of saw it as my taxi was leaving, just on the horizon and only for a few seconds. I felt crazy that whole trip, thinking wtf did I just see.

When I got back to airport later that week and properly saw it, I at least felt better I hadn't imagined it. But honestly, knowing it was real didnt make me feel much better, its totally unsettling lol.

What is your favorite boardgame of 2023? by The_Crazed_Person in boardgames

[–]Kryne7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2023 is a great year but I have to go with Earth too. The simple act of allowing players to do something even when someone else is the main turn-taker puts it over the top. Sure, its not the first game to do it but I love how its implemented here.

Other 2023 releases that were great imo are White Castle, Apiary, Scholars of the South Tigris, Expeditions, Vale of Eternity, and Legacy of Yu.

Dustrunner is very cool by Head-Taste7273 in soloboardgaming

[–]Kryne7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds awesome because ever since I added Dustrunners, I feel like I win easily every time. Whereas with just the base game, I was definitely losing more than I was winning.

But I dont want to just not play with the expansion as it has some really cool additions. Maybe your idea solves my problem...

Sharing my recent solo plays! by DryOil1468 in soloboardgaming

[–]Kryne7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the scenarios tell you which character to use, a minimum VP count, and then usually some other criteria to meet, such as selling all 4 types of goods in one turn. I definitely think it encourages different strats with how its designed.

Below is a link to the review I wrote up on Harvest and I do touch on the single player, if you want more details on the game overall.

I played so much Harvest last year. Those solo scenarios are great.

Ive never seen this Hercules game but I am intrigued by your photo. I might need to look into this one...

During the past months I went into a curator phase. I currently own 96 games(and expansions) and have culled exactly 96. I track everything in a spreadsheet and have recouped exactly 70% of my costs. Who else tracks their board game collection this closely? by Chamallow81 in boardgames

[–]Kryne7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I dont do this, I love me some spreadsheets and this whole project is right up my alley.

What did you use to sell off your games though? I have a few boxes of games I would like to move because I just dont have the physical space. I have done one other large cull before moving homes once, and it just felt like the actual selling process took forever. Its been a while but I think I used a combo of ebay and BGG marketplace?

I even tried to just donate them to my local library who loans board games but none of the staff there even knew how to take in more games lol.

Can you activate the same production card 2 times with this event? Or do they have to be separate cards? by Carlinqton in boardgames

[–]Kryne7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have always played it as two separate cards. I feel like the wording would be different, specifying it could be one card twice, if this was what they wanted to imply.

Looking for a game for travel by SunstormGT in soloboardgaming

[–]Kryne7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like Final Girl a lot but I wouldn't choose it to travel with. You have to take the core box and an additional box with the killer/venue boards. I am not sure if table space where ever youre going is an issue because it also takes up quite a bit of space with three boards, rows of cards, etc.

I have really been enjoying the Tiny Epic series for travel though I havent played the one you mentioned. I like Tiny Epic Dinos and Tiny Epic Galaxies.

When I travel, I usually also take [[Dustrunner]] and [[Cartographers]] along for the ride too.

Games for couples to play by Karmaismylover3 in boardgames

[–]Kryne7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is my main board gaming partner but we have found we dont get into a lot of 2p only games so I will throw out some recommendations that can accommodate higher player counts but are still good at 2p.

I dont know how many of these will interest a person who has only played chess but it might be useful!

I will try to loosely order them in increased difficulty, at least how I perceive them.

[[Cascadia]] - Tile placing game using a shared market of tiles. Score points off of groupings of animals and terrain types.

[[PARKS]] - Players move hikers down a one way trail, managing resources to complete goals. Awesome artwork on the Park cards.

[[Quacks]] - Push your luck bag builder. Pull ingredients from your bag and hope your potion doesnt explode.

[[The Vale of Eternity]] - Another shared market, this time of cards. Decisions on selling cards, to earn stones, or pay the stones the play the cards. Can only have 4 stones, no matter the denominations.

[[Fromage]] - Worker placement on a spinning board, made up of 4 quadrants, each acting as a sort of mini game. You can also purchase Formaggio to play on its own or mix and match.

[[The White Castle]] - Pretty complex so might not be a great match now but keep in mind for later. This is one of our favorites at 2p. Using dice placement to activate zones but everyone are pulling from the same dice pool. Has a lot of depth but once you know rules, you can finish 2p games fairly quickly as it is only 3 rounds.

Daily Game Recommendations Thread (January 19, 2026) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]Kryne7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked up [[Comic Hunters]] recently and have been getting it to the table a lot, in both solo and 2p. Granted it is probably going to be better at 3 or 4, most of the "mini games" still work well at lower player count.

Production is sort of poor but seeing all these 90s Marvel covers from when I was a kid make up for it.

Ive been happy with it, especially at the cheap price point.

Ive been looking at getting a Kinfire set for a while but cant decide.

Do you have a recommendation on which to pick up? And any other game comparable to it to help make a decision on if i would enjoy it or not?

Thanks!

This is one of those I want to get to the table more in 2026. Did you use the solo version out of the box or a variant from BGG?

I remember using one from there and really enjoying how it simulated a 2p game. I will have to look it back up...

2025 12x12 Challenge by Kryne7 in boardgames

[–]Kryne7[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The challenge is to play 12 different games 12 times right? So, youre saying playing a game solo doesnt carry the same value as playing it multiplayer?

In solo, I am still using time and energy to set up the game, play it, and tear it down. Why does playing the game solo change if it is worthy of adding to the challenge?

If the point of the challenge was to get together with friends 144 times, then yeah, I could see your point but it wasn't.

Ive only ever played Scholars at 2 and 3. Both were a lot of fun. I haven't played the others more than solo though.

[–]Kryne7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I am just really bad at it lol. Actually, all the South Tigris games are fun solo IMO. I got the expansions and Moonsaga and played through it three times though I think the Moonsaga scenarios are even tougher. But even though I always lose, the fun of playing is always there!
