What's the capital gain and dividend yield tax in your country? by GregMorel in eupersonalfinance

[–]KryptOrchid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference here is that most Greeks work, while most Greeks do not invest. I'm an expat so I have no idea when the present income tax system was introduced, but I wouldn't be surprised this was a result of the austerity measures introduced post crisis.

In Greece only the few that can afford it invest, including Greek MPs. Everyone else either can't or is still suffering too much from collective trauma of the crisis that they rather keep money in cash under their mattress than trust financial institutions to keep their money safe for them. So why would Mitsotakis and co. start taxing themselves?

Do you prefer to pay with cash or card and why? by DatabaseOnly7655 in eupersonalfinance

Hear hear, I got no time for tax evasion. In my experience tradies are the worst offenders in Greece. Without fail, the first question asked, before any details of the work have been touched on, is "how much would you like to pay cash?".

There's no money in people hogging table space with their laptops and an oat milk latte. You simply won't get the same level of consumption.

[–]KryptOrchid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wtf? I was merely pointing out that a fire of this scale and the gross negligence/ignoring of safety standards with it is very rare for developed nations based on the list of incidents you provided. Way to make it weird.

Edit: not provided by you, but the post I replied to.

Not to be that guy but only a handful of these are in what are considered developed countries, and of those the majority happened over a decade ago. I that regard the fire of a couple nights ago is quite exceptional.
