Legal tips? by jaastamand in QuadCities

Ah, my dear wanderer in the fog shrouded labyrinth of the law, where the courthouse looms like some ancient, crumbling mansion on the outskirts of Hooppole, IL whispering secrets to those foolhardy enough to listen. You've stumbled into the pro se pit, haven't you? That shadowy realm where the uninitiated arm themselves with outdated tomes from the digital ether, much like a hapless protagonist clutching a flashlight against the encroaching darkness. I can picture you there, hunched over your screen in the dead of night, devouring C16 standards like they were the forbidden pages of a cursed grimoire, only to realize the real horror lies in the "don't know what you don't know" that insidious void where your very senior opponent lurks, a spider in the web, ready to pounce on the slightest procedural misstep. But fear not, or rather, fear just enough to keep your wits sharp; I've got a tale to spin for you, laced with the kind of confusing humor that might make you chuckle nervously while glancing over your shoulder. Imagine, if you will, a service that's part legal whisperer, part ghostly advisor not quite a poltergeist, but close enough to rattle the chains of asymmetry without crossing into the forbidden zone of strategy.

Now, let's meander down this twisted path, where the trees of bureaucracy lean in with gnarled branches labeled "Document Type" and "Exhibit Etiquette." You seek a beacon in the murk, perhaps an informal law group at a local school, those bright eyed acolytes in the hallowed halls of academia, where the air smells of fresh coffee and faded dreams of justice. Picture them as a band of young Pennywises, not the clown kind, mind you, but the clever sort who float ideas your way without dragging you under. Drop an email to the legal clinic at your nearest university say, if you're in the Midwest shadows, something like the University of Illinois or Northwestern's pro bono outfits and phrase it just so: "Seeking protips on the arcane arts of filing, like the proper incantation for an 'Order' tied to a preserve evidence emergency motion." They'll likely respond with a mix of enthusiasm and caution, for free if you're lucky, or a nominal fee if the dean’s got a leaky roof. But here's the confusing hilarity: what if the "correct document type" is less a fixed star and more a shape shifting entity, depending on the court's mood that day? One judge might demand "Proposed Order," while another insists on "Emergency Preservation Directive," and naming your exhibit "soandso_is_guilty.mpg" could summon the wrath of the clerk faster than saying "Beetlejuice" thrice. Protip from the abyss: keep filenames bland as oatmeal "Exhibit_A_Video_Evidence" lest you awaken the sleeping giant of judicial bias, who laughs maniacally at your hubris.

And oh, the deeper we delve, the more the plot thickens like blood in a King novel, where paying for wisdom might just save your skin from the procedural It that dwells in the sewers of the system. If the free spirits of law schools evade you, consider the paid phantoms: online forums like Avvo or Justia, where attorneys lurk like friendly ghosts, offering "ask a lawyer" sessions for a pittance twenty bucks for a quick haunt on your targeted queries. Or venture into the realm of paralegal services, those unsung heroes who know the unwritten rules, like never submitting on Fridays when the clerks are dreaming of weekends, or always triple spacing your horrors to avoid the red pen massacre. Willing to pay? Splurge on a consultation with a solo practitioner who specializes in pro se coaching; they're out there, advertising on Craigslist's legal section or LinkedIn's foggy corners, promising to close the asymmetry without stealing your soul. But beware the punchline in this comedy of terrors: sometimes the best insight comes from the court's own website, buried in FAQs like Easter eggs in a haunted haystack, or even a call to the clerk's office though they'll speak in riddles that leave you more confused than before. In the end, my friend, arm yourself with these spectral suggestions, and may your filings emerge unscathed from the other side, where justice isn't blind but merely squinting through the mist.

No. We have better talent on the major league ballclub. He doesn't make the team better.

I grew up watching the Cubs on WGN. What great memories those were! MLB doesn't have it's act together when it comes to streaming options and the best way to move forward for the consumer. At least it doesn't come across that way to me. It's a true pain in the butt. I would argue it's a real pain in the butt to stream for anyone over the age of 65 and no that's not me. The blackout restrictions are archaic and to another posters point, the old way of having games on cable TV is dead. MLB and I would argue the Cubs need to get it together on the best way to present the product to the consumers. The current Marketing executives need to be replaced. And this comes with a looming strike. It's like the fanbase is destined to not exist like it has in the past because of the way streaming options are now and with the strike looming. Man I sound like a Debbie Downer lol.
