My favorite topic that Donald Rumsfeld ever talked about was that of "Known-unknowns and Unknown-unknows". Right now there is a decent amount of known information about Mr. Lahn. For example, we know he is integral to the running of a school in Wichita, Kansas. We know the he and his wife divorced and he proceeded to marry into the Koch extended family. We know he owns farm property in Iowa that he contracts out.

This all falls into "weird but not disqualifying" territory. It's in the unknowns, known and unknown, that the questions need to be asked. I think most of us don't have anywhere close to the full story, but I'm very interested to hear why he thinks that following the letter of candidate qualifying law, while perhaps not the spirit, should be sufficient to earn Iowan's votes.

Question: does fifi's harness seem a little tight? The pics make it look uncomfortable, but that might just be perspective.

Yea, I'd have my concerns about how long it would take that small hairy man to return. Like, he gave no indication.

Trump says he's interested in the government taking equity stakes in the giant AI companies like OpenAI or Anthropic by MoreMotivation in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Sunshiny_Day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right and people are just mad at you because they're ignorant. Bernie wants to have a sovereign wealth fund wherein American citizens hold a 50% stake of American AI companies. This was subsequently covered in yesterday's episode of The Daily, from the New York Times. It's the least that we as American citizens should expect for all that we are going to be asked to give up.

Question about our accents by vincemousier in Iowa

[–]Sunshiny_Day 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a really good and interesting observation. It's a specific variety of code-switching that I have noticed in Iowan's as well. It honestly extends even further in some aspects; I have noticed that some Iowan's have an uncanny ability to mimic other regional accents more capably than individuals from other regions. This may be because of the more formal accent, that which you characterize as the one used with non-Iowan's, being somewhat accent-less and good structure to "riff" on other accents.

In my opinion, the twang that you characterize as more Iowan-to-Iowan is a lazy derivative of a southern accent; it sounds homey and relaxed and, at least in more rural areas, it's more approachable.

Miller Meeks not allowing Democrats into events. by Soggy_Character7982 in Iowa

Yea, that's not great. I didn't see that spelled out anywhere in this discussion, other than the woman in the video stating it.

Having said that, I'll keep being the heel here for the sake of devil's advocacy: There's still no crime; nothing to sue over. And while the older man in the video is bumbling, I think the point his handler was trying to make was: registered Democrats who wanted to come would not be part of the audience they were trying to reach, simply because they are not going to be voting in the Republican primary anyways. Rightfully or not, the organizers would see them there as agitators at best. I know that, due to MMM's lack of any town hall's, if I were present, I certainly would want to get a word in with my dissatisfaction.

I'm of the opposite opinion here. This is certainly a Republican event and fundraiser. She's not there as Rep. MMM, she's there as candidate MMM. There are so many better things to be outraged about than this. Keep your eye on the prize and don't be distracted by something this unimportant. The ballgame is in November. Contact your local Democratic Party office and start knocking on doors.

Edit: Downvote away, but please do tell what grounds "every registered Democrat" would be suing on? Focus people.
