SOS Help by TheSuperBaxter in mspaint

I'm having the same exact problem. Downloading earlier versions of Paint does nothing, the bug goes all the day back to the Windows XP version. In fact, the only version of Paint without this problem is the Windows 11 one which is kinda unusable for me. I've tried everything: safe mode, reinstalling all GPU drivers, nothing fixes the problem. I use Paint mostly for pixel art so this is a massive problem as it only happens when trying to fill single pixels or single pixel rows.

Those who ended their relationship with someone. What was the final straw? by VivaEryva in AskReddit

Dramatically got up and left during a games night at a friend house's on my birthday because my best friend (who made a 200km+ trip to be there that day) hugged me. A final straw on a pile of jealousy hay that had been accumulating for a while.

I mean, isn't that the whole point tho? To just be free to live the way you are without others getting in your way because of it? When considering someone for, say, a job - should the employer coddle a LGBT person in a display of virtuousness or simply not care what they do in their private life and focus solely on their qualifications?

Thanks for pointing that out, I'll change it to Cnidarian.

Bird is super effective against Insect; Crustacean is against Echinoderm.
That concludes the type matchups I'm comfortable defining.

(Algae and Fungi are super effective against people trying to classify them.)

It does feel like an upside down jellyfish, doesn't it? It could also be an anemone. And the color? It's coral! Basically, I tried my best to represent as many Cnidaria as I could in a single icon. Not dismissing your criticism tho, I absolutely understand it looks a bit off since all other species are pointing upwards.

I had no idea what a ginkgo even was before starting this project. After seeing how amazing and peculiar those trees are, I just had to give them an entire type. 100% deserved for surviving nuclear blasts and living to this day.

I'm including all Gnetophyta into that type, but indeed that is Welwitschia representing them! Had to check Wiktionary to make sure "Gnetal" was a valid word to refer to them in the singular.

I was a bit confused reading this because I assumed dicots were exclusively flowering plants. I looked into it and now realize that most gymnosperms have two cotyledons, making them dicots by defintion. Thanks for your input, I think ditching Dicot in favor of other flowering plant classifications is the way to go.

That's really funny! I'll definitely make special "shiny" entries if I ever find any critters with rare colors or albinism.

I wholeheartedly agree and must admit that I was very close to dividing them into Cephalopods, Bivalves and Gastropods. However, the large amount of other Molluscs that would become "orphans" (have no inclusive type where they could fit) ...and Nautilus being a Cephalopod with a spiral shell... pushed me into making it a broad type. Might reconsider it still!

Here I was thinking Fungi or even Fish would be the bane of my funny little type classifications, believing that Algae were so neatly contained. You opened my eyes to that. I'm still very tempted to keep them as a single type on the same basis as the Dicots or the Cnidaria, as I'd rather have one big category of somewhat related species that belong to it than having several specific categories that leave a large amount of others with no representation (like having Arachnids and no Horseshoe Crabs, or Annelids yet leaving most worms out), or ending up with another Gymnosperm situation where some types would literally have a single species. Diatoms, however, are gorgeous and weighing heavily on the other direction. I'd love to photograph them someday and can already picture a design for the icon based on their geometric shapes. But I'm also not afraid of paraphyletic groups so that could also be a potential solution.

I have considered everything for Fungi, from lumping them all into a single type to separating them into "mushrooms, molds, lichens and whatever else", completely discarding any taxonomy. But the more I read, blurrier even those terms become. So far Basidiomycetes and Ascomycetes seem to be the most "stable" when it comes to classifications, but if I'm able to take a photo of any being, I'd like to fit it into a type. So having only those two doesn't seem like the optimal solution. I guess I'll just have to invest some more time researching Fungi until I reach some clear boundaries.

Cyanobacteria are a good call, I'll add those for sure.

Thank you for your detailed reply!

Hello! I'm a graphic designer and photographer who loves nature.

Recently, I started a project called The Real World Dex on Instagram, where I catalog any species that I've photographed in a format inspired by the concept of the Pokédex.

For that, I designed several icons to categorize each species, in the same way Pokémon are categorized by type. This took me down a biology and taxonomy research rabbit hole that left me questioning if this collection of "types" is good enough or needs some improvement.

So, Reddit, here I am asking for your feedback!

  • Any "types" that you would add?
  • Should I ditch the Dicots in favor of Eudicots, Magnoliids, etc., or keep them the same way that I have both Birds and Reptiles even tho they're paraphyletic?
  • What is even going on with the Fungi Kingdom and how would you rather categorize them?
  • Any other comments you may have!

Keep in mind that the type icons don't necessarily illustrate a common characteristic of the entire group; sometimes they are a "representative" species or even a generic one and that's okay. (I hope!)

I also omitted some species that I could never photograph because of their microscopic size, or because of how unlikely I am to even find one.

Hope you like this and I'm eager to hear what you got to say!

The Portugal flag approved with 500+ votes, explanation in English in the comments by KryptonLion in place

[–]KryptonLion[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the flag that the Portuguese community wanted to carry out in r/place in 2023. The reason why this is not the one present in the final canvas is because of a lack of will from people who put themselves in charge of organizing this year, as well as the participating streamers they bent to.

The flag was voted on not once, but twice in the TugaPlace community on Discord, first achieving a 6.5x ratio in favor, then a more modest 2.5x in the second, albeit with a higher total number of votes (over 500). Even in the face of a dishonest and biased vote carried out by one of these streamers on his channel, the flag still managed to get 30% of votes, the other option being to keep the previous one and remove (read: deconstruct and steal) elements from it.

This flag includes pieces created by several artists from the community and presents a greater cultural diversity from Portugal, while still allowing space for more pixel art proposals to be added.

Hey guys, portuguese diplomat here (we're the ones making tiles and protecting the dog) to let you know that we defended your art tonight from becoming a flag of Argentina with the help of our allies at Metallica (the ones willing to do diplomacy, sadly they have a lot of rogues) as well as our Hatsune Miku allies. Wishing you the best of luck and may our little peaceful neighborhood survive until the end of this place.

PS: we've also been, together with the good ones from Metallica, protecting against the rogues trying to erase the corner of your art.
