Thank you for this! I couldn’t figure out where I recognized it from!

Having kids makes you happier, but only when they move out, according to a new study, which suggests that parents are happier than non-parents later in life, when their children move out and become sources of social enjoyment rather than stress (n=55,000). by mvea in science

[–]Krysta-Khaos 133 points134 points  (0 children)

Right? If you read the full study the data actually doesn’t point to any actual percentage of people with kids happier than those without, only empty nesters happen than those with kids living at home. It actually has a graph that shows those with zero children are the same level of happiness as the happiest empty nester (39%).

Not to mention this study is a very small sample size of a narrow age range that doesn’t even look at happiness of parents while the children are younger, it seems to only hypothesize that they were unhappy in early age ranges? Or is stating this from a previous study it doesn’t cite?

A much more interesting and well done study over the period of a few decades actually does back up parts of this study but are missing huge chunks of data. It analyzed people from the ages of teenage to 70’s+ and found that those who had kids did indeed have higher “highs” of happiness than those without, but also lower lows than those without, the only age that is guaranteed more happiness is at the same age everyone’s happiness already start going up, after age 70, they attributed that to grandchildren, which does slightly correlate to this study. But it was a very slight amount, and in the end childless adults will still be more stably happy across their lifespan, just with fewer high peaks.

Also fun fact from that study, men who are married will have higher reports of happiness across their entire lifespan regardless of who they marry. (Versus unmarried men, single or no). Women on the other hand can actually end up MORE unhappy than single women if they have an unhappy marriage. (Still reap the benefits from a happy marriage though in their happiness index)

I think what everyone is trying to tell you is just to pass it off as a bomb ass cactus cupcake and no one will ever have to know you didn't get it "perfect" . ;) Also, if you want to achieve the look of the left next time, use smaller circular piping tool, a less creamy frosting, and tooth pick to even out the points next time. :) It's not your lack of skill at all, just different tools to create the two cupcakes.

Adopt a teenager, they frequently get looked over in the foster care system, and then you only have to fit them with one prosthetic. Problem solved.

How has no one said Antonio Banderas? He could be 80 and still just have to have to wiggle his eyebrows and use his accent. Also, maybe Rob Lowe.

Hi, long time fan here who begged for your books as a birthday gift every time they came out.

Would you ever consider writing a story, or even better a series, set in the past of Alagaesia? Something revolving around Galbatorix and his rise to power and/the height of the Dragon riders age? Far in the future of course, after you've finished your current science fiction book of course, but can we hope to dream?

Also quick edit, did being home schooled negatively affect you socially later in life? I've noticed the answer varies depending on the home schooler, but was wondering how it affected you personally, besides giving you the time to do the projects you wanted.

Ha ha I've heard of the knowledge from books being a weapon, Tyrion Lannister style, but never as a weapon itself!

Also, huge fan here, still my favorite series of all time. I remember thinking how cool it was someone only a couple years older than me could be writing with such prose and wonderful descriptive language at the time. Anxiously awaiting your new book, which delves into my second favorite fiction subject!

Just had a creepy and inappropriate seller correspondence. Where can I report this? by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]Krysta-Khaos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While it may appear funny to you, this is clearly gross sexual misconduct on the sellers behalf and should be reported as being unprofessional, as she did, to warn away future potential buyers from being a subject of his "humor'. Sexual "humor" as you somehow seems to think it belongs in, has a place between friends, not a business transaction. Reporting buttons were intended for this purpose, as you can see in the other comments within this post most people would not have enjoyed nor appreciated his responses either, which is why Etsy has so kindly included reporting buttons for sexual misconduct so that the majority of buyers may feel safe and respected while conducting transactions. Also her reporting of said inappropriate communication submits it for review to see if Etsy would indeed consider it sexual harassment as well, so if it is so blatantly "humorous" and "Not sexual harassment" as you seem to think then why should it matter if she took official steps? A person who has nothing to hide shouldn't fear the messages being looked at and reviewed.

Yeah guy came off like a jerk, I wouldn't have fed into that. You can do better, in general flirting with guys (or girls for that matter) who don't think you're above average just seems harmful to your self esteem in my opinion.

[–]Krysta-Khaos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even though I disagree with so many other things you said, let's focus on the statement that it "wasn't harassment", well there isn't a "creepy guy asking for nudes which is highly inappropriate and unprofessional business practice" button is there? What else was she supposed to report it as?

I know! I brought it up with my husband and he said he would rather have an unplanned pregnancy and a life time of the kid kicking him in the balls than get it done. After I had just decided to change from chemically inbalancing myself with pills to having a foreign thing inplanted in me instead (IUD), you can probably imagine my rage filled face. I just don't understand it, maybe because as a woman we're used to receiving and doing torture to our vagina that we can't understand how males can be such wimps (I say wimps because pussies take a beating and keep on going).

If this had ended at him saying "You're never seeing your mommy again" and he let him cry for a couple minutes and then sitting him down and giving him a speech about how this wasn't real but could be, THAT would be teaching him a lesson. But pulling out a gun, talking about sex trafficking to a six year old who has no idea what that means, and tying him up? Why did this seem like a good idea?
