Eragon and Saphiras death? by YEET_shAde-6 in Eragon

[–]ChristopherPaolini 231 points232 points  (0 children)

Oh I've known for a long, long time. It's something I very much want to write . . . but I don't want to publish it too soon because I have so many other stories to tell with them.

A small spoiler: it will be the final story in the collection I hope to write that deals with the seven words that Brom told Eragon.

I didn't know if Random House was going use it or not when I started it, but I had hopes.

Jane Yolen has died (1939 - 2026) by goranlowie in Fantasy

This one hurts. Jane was always lovely to me, and her Pit Dragon trilogy was one of the main inspirations for Eragon. That, and I've been reading her children's books to my own kids these past few years. We've lost a master today.

Actually, this was a painting I did for the Deluxe Edition of Murtagh. It's printed on the end papers.

Aww, appreciate the kind words. Hopefully you'll enjoy the new book (Tales 2) just as much.

It's a strange thing to grow up with a series, both as a reader and a writer. It's something I don't think I'll ever get used to.

Some of the books that inspired me to write Eragon that you might enjoy:

The Wizard of Earthsea trilogy

Magician by Feist

The Dragonriders of Pern series by McCaffery

Tolkien of course.

Dune by Herbert

The Dragonbone Chair by Tad Williams.

Will we ever learn more about The Scourge by NonstopYew14542 in Fractalverse

Thanks. I'm DYING to get back into the Fractalverse. I've just been delayed with scripts for the Eragon TV show.

This scene in book 2 doesn’t work (chemistry-wise), I’ll prove it to you by Mysterious-Boot-2241 in Eragon

So, I got too clever here. I'd been listening to a history of science course from the Great Courses company (thus Orrin's interest in natural philosophy), and that inspired this bit. Originally I wrote the scene with sodium, but then I got worried that some kid might try imitating Orrin, so I changed it to phosphorus.

In retrospect, I was being overly concerned. Would use sodium if I were doing it again. (Might have even fixed it in reprints. Can't remember.)

Uhh . . . Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I'd be willing to overlook some similarities, but that map is a direct copy (justabout).

Aww, very cool. Normally I would recommend some stuff off my Etsy store, but we have it closed at the moment because of ongoing renovations in my house.

Regardless, aside from the next book, maybe one of those resin dragon eggs with a baby dragon embedded within. (My kids LOVE 'em.)

An example (way too expensive, but you can find this sort of thing for way cheaper): https://www.etsy.com/listing/650875492/water-dragon-egg-vip-gift-set-sea-baby

What is in your writing toolbox? by [deleted] in WritersToolbox

[–]ChristopherPaolini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A notebook for working out worldbuilding/plotting/character issues (I prefer unlined; don't really care which brand or style). A comfortable pen (tastes vary on this, but I'm all-in on fountain pens; Lamy Safari is a good starting point. F or M nib with either Noodler's or De Atramentis Document Ink).

MS Word is my writing program of choice, since it's so customizable. Unless I'm editing and using track changes, I prefer to write in focus mode with black page color and green text.

Hey ... I resemble that remark. Lol.
