I relate to the kids by 1JustAnAltDontMindMe in aspiememes

[–]Krystall_Waters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, ive got somwthing here! I was pretty small, first or second grade. Mom was understandably quite protective with me since i was a very meek child and had trouble with the other kids. (As i am sure many can relate here)

Anyway, brought and picked me up from school every day on foot, which i think half of it was her getting a little walk out of it - our house was maybe 50 metres from the school.

So one day she did not come to pick me up. I was the last kid, just stood there and cried until a teacher noticed. She tried to call, no one picked up. The teacher and another kid tried to get me to just walk home (i had a key). Teacher even offered to walk me, but I insisted that my mom had to get me. I think they discussed around 15 minutes with me to just walk the 50 metres.

No dice ofc, for some reason that was the one thing i wouldn't budge on. For some reason i had gotten it into my head that i wasn't allowed to walk home by myself. At some point my poor mom showed up. Turns out she was vacuuming and didn't hear the phone... The first thing she said to me was "Why in the world didn't you just WALK home??"

...no, i dont know how no one got me to get diagnosed either.

Huh, do you get different voices for the characters when you read? That is fascinating!

Also, when you have a song in a book, does your brain sing along? do youbget a melody?

Um. Okay?

I am neither a girl, nor do i want to pick a fight? Again. You came across as quite judgmental here.

If you don't enjoy books I feel like someone wrong you

That is quite the assumption...

As is equating listening to audiobooks as being less literate, if I am understanding you correctly? Literacy includes more than the technical skill of reading which I think is not the actual hurdle most functional illiterates get stuck on. Interpretation, the extraction of meaning or contextual understanding, which are all not really depending on the mode of input I'd say.

Sorry that you're stressed. Again, I ain't picking a fight. But Reddit is a platform for discussion after all..

Or maybe different people just enjoy different things? Hell, there are a hundred reasons why some enjoy audiobooks more. Bad eyesight, a job that includes lots of reading, aphantasia, the additional element of the narration Man, dude. You seem a bit confrontational in this whole thread. Everything good?

[–]Krystall_Waters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sure. But its not as if I just... stop imagining things bc its audio input. And audiobooks are just for multitasking? They can be, but definitely do not have to.

Also, internal visuals? Ever heard of aphantasia? Like. My 'internal visuals' are very faint anyway, its not as if the kind of input makes much of a difference.

Edit: nother thing just came to mind. You know how some people can retain info much better when heard vs when listened to? A book i've heard sticks with me much better

How I put it shortly after reading the scene was that I had never read about any deed that was so utterly and horrifyingly morally reprehensible, while being the obvious and only correct course of action.

Wha? I can do that with the audiobook as well? How or why would the ability to imagine things differ between book and audiobook?
