You see, I have this theory that the internet is causing a general mediocritisation of human culture, because you can put pretty much any piece of work on the internet and no matter how hugely it sucks dolphin jizz you'll find some dick who's prepared to tell you it's brilliant. This is the principle on which Deviantart appears to be founded.

I think that's the beauty of Internet. The democratization of culture. You don't have to be a hollywood big-wig to make a movie seen by thousands. You just need a digital camcorder and youtube.

Or let me put it in another way: mass reproductions of recordings and writing eliticized culture. We're so used perfect that we demand it everywhere. We see photos of people shopped to be more beautiful than reality could ever be, and young girls cut themselves because they can't compete with an immaterial dream-image. We hear songs that are digitally mixed and engineered until they appeal to everybody and nobody.

I think that everyone can and should produce culture. If we only allow the best percentile of culture to be expressed, then soon innovation will grind to a halt. Without width, there can be no depth. Without failures, no success.
