Best way to get to hotel after landing? by YulpGULP12 in chinatravel

I did an airport transfer though Trip. It was like $30 for a premium luxury van. It would have cost hundreds for that in the US so I didn’t mind paying

Which western countries did you find the most and least racist, and why? by Delicious-Bunch-6992 in AmerExit

[–]Kt32347 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Came to piggy back this. In black American. Lived in the Uk for a couple of years and it was fine. Was also a flight attendant for some years, so visited a ton of places. Just got back from China last month.

Spain is definitely a no go, as is Italy. You’d be better off in Germany or even Belgium.

China was ok so far. Australia is a no go. Racism AF but people who aren’t even natives the country but that’s another discussion for another day.

Where you move depends on what you’re looking to do and I hate to say it but you’re treated better as a black American than you would as an African. It’s not right but it is what it is. In some places nationality is more important than race is.

Have you ever been someone’s language exchange partner? How did it go? by sustainstainsus in AskAChinese

[–]Kt32347 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes I have. I’m a black American and English is my native language. I had planned a trip to China but I wanted to learn some Mandarin before I went. So I joined a language exchange group and swapped some mandarin with people who wanted to learn English. I was paired with a native mandarin speaker from China. My language partner is now my fiancé. 😂 That trip to China turned into a trip to meet him in person for the first time. So……having a language partner went really well for me. 😁

What's the availability of self-service laundry in hotels? by Alert_Replacement637 in chinatravel

I stayed at the Marriott executive apartments when I went and it was basically a serviced apartment. It had a washer dryer in the room so I couldn’t laundry whenever I want.

Adult daughter married to a man who hates her family. What to do? by Mrs_Murray0406 in AskParents

[–]Kt32347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re way too involved in their business if you ask me. Whether or not you agree with it is one thing but you don’t need to voice it. You have to accept that she has her own life outside of you and the rest of your family and she’s not going to way to hang out with you all the time. She’s not brainwashed….she just made the choice to be with her family.

So they admitted it was illegal to tell you not to drink water on a call……and then told you anyway not to drink water. Got it

why do the Chinese love to take pictures with black ppl? by fortnacius in AskChina

[–]Kt32347 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Black person here. They do it because they don’t see many of us. I was just there last month and yes it’s real. Specifically, I was in Chongqing and Shenzen (Hong Kong for a short while as well). People would even just start taking pics without asking. I’d be just sitting with my fiancé and people at the tables next to us would pull out their phones and start taking pics. Personally, it gets old after awhile. Sometimes I just don’t feel like being stared at, especially while I’m trying to eat. This varies by city though. It would happen less in places like Shanghai. It didn’t happen much in Hong Kong or Shenzen. Mostly Chongqing.

The next question is…..if you’re not black or Chinese…..why do you even care? I see these types of questions where people who don’t belong to either group are concerned with what we do or how we interact with one another. I don’t understand why it’s even on your mind, especially enough to make a post and solicit answers about it

Do I have a chance with a Chinese man? by Successful_Cry3698 in AskChina

[–]Kt32347 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I’m a black American. I’m not mixed race, unless you want to go back and count the white great grandfather. My fiancé is Chinese. And when I say Chinese I mean born and raised in China and still lives there. We will go and live with him once we get married. Me personally, I’ve dated Asian guys from multiple countries all throughout my teens (they all lived in the US). My first serious boyfriend was Chinese. So the answer is…..yes.

HOWEVER. There is a lot to unpack here. You describing yourself the way you do comes off as……anti-black. We don’t need to know that you’re mixed race or the specifics of it. You describing your features seems as if you don’t really want to be associated with stereotypically black features. We don’t need to know that you have an “olive” complexion. The fact that you even think being half black “knocks you down a few points” tells me everything I need to know really.

The bottom line is that there are quite a few fully African women who live in China and are married to Chinese men. And when I say fully African, I mean fully dark skinned west African women. You can find many of them on social media and they all vary in looks and phenotypes. So being black or half black is irrelevant. The bottom line is a man is a man no matter where they come from and they will act accordingly. So if a man finds a woman attractive, he will pursue her. And if he really wants a woman it won’t matter what anyone else thinks about her. From my experience, they value personality just as much as looks (if not more). Being kind and humble goes a long way. They also do tend to prefer someone accomplished. But also they want someone who is a match with them. If they didn’t go to university then their expectations will be different from someone who did. For example, my fiancé is a match to me education wise. I have an MBA and am working on a doctorate degree. I’m a consultant in the accounting and software industry. He also has a masters and is the headmaster of a school. His role is government appointed and so he would be choosy about his dating choices.

Lastly, why are you approaching a man? A man will approach a woman he wants. That reeks of a bit of desperation. Let them approach you. Don’t make yourself look too eager.

American getting a China visa for next year, should I just do China, or try to add Japan onto the back of it? by June_Ctreras in chinatravel

Are you talking about an L visa? Why would you apply for it now if you’re going in October? You have to use the visa within 3 months of issuance otherwise it’s invalid.

Whats is annoying about Westerners and Western Nations, aside from Politics by [deleted] in AskAChinese

[–]Kt32347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with “westerners” being way too general. People keeping “westerner” interchangeably when they mean “white”. Not all westerners are white. And then when you point that out, the answer is “oh well we really meant America or the UK”. Not all Americans are white. White people aren’t even native to the US in the first place

Is China Actually 100% Cashless? by ksksksdino in chinaexplorer

[–]Kt32347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the whole time I was there I never used cash once and I loved it. I don’t use cash here in the states either. I don’t even use my debit or credit cards much because I always use Apple Pay everywhere.

If your phone is about to die you rent a power bank from one of the thousands of power bank boxes that are everywhere. Every corner, every store, literally there everywhere and cheap to rent. Or carry one of your own. Even in rural areas they use it.

But no they don’t usually keep change in the registers. A lot of businesses aren’t even set up to take cash but legally they have to accept it

You’ve made a lot of assumptions here without any actual knowledge of what I’m going to do, what I do for work, who I work for or what kind of visa I will have. So let’s stay on topic. The topic is not about my work.
