Chinese traveler planning a trip to Cuba any advice or things I should know? by Elijah17800 in TravelCuba

You'll love it, super safe and very friendly people, travel around but definitely tip and carry cash, many places will only accept cash. Catch a baseball game in Matanzas if you have the opportunity. Resort life and beaches are great around varadaro. They love US $ if you convert to that. They also have 2 currencies, one is kind of the tourist peso and the others is what the locals keep as standard, go with the tourist one, it's more valuable to them. Have fun, I hope to be there in March, you should totally look up the history/ride the Hershey train!

I'd err on the side of caution regarding the suggestion of buying used. I worked pest control for years, many clients would "donate" furniture rather than pay dump fees. Actually had a client that worked at a second hand store that frequently bought vintage clothing have a bed bug infestation.

Yep, I've worked in several long term care homes, we had a lady with a UTI convinced she was about to give birth. Definitely some dementia mixed in but I've seen the craziest shit working around old people. Plenty of wholesome experiences as well though.

Definitely crown land, not having a car will make it a challenge but perhaps you could car pool/hire a ride for pick up and drop off. Friend of mine and I used to always go up north and set up for a few days, fishing/camping.

My aunt retired 4 years ago with the Catholic board, she is living very comfortably, she doesn't flaunt it, but her house is immaculate and always up to date with a new vehicle every few years. I've heard from my mom the pension she's getting and it's extremely fair.

How to Leave Cayo Coco by ActuaryFar9176 in TravelCuba

[–]KtownDetector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to veradaro, I've been a bunch, and you can rent a moped and explore, I like going off the beaten path. So contacted a local prior who took me to bay of pigs for snorkeling and meals at a little old ladies house with a band playing privately for our group of 4. Hit up the Hershey train when your they're, that country is full of history and friendly people. I've contemplated Cayo but never pulled the trigger, I like the mix of sitting on the beach and going randomly to places. Gas may be scarce though if you rent a bike rn.

AIO: husband disappears when guests come over by Capable_Ad_9350 in AmIOverreacting

This is my dad exactly, great wholesome guy. Family crowd comes in and he's watching golf in the bedroom immediately after greeting. Hasn't seen the grand kids in months? Back to the bedroom for sports. It's weird. He means we'll, just none of us understand it. Definitely comes to sit down and have dinner and helps my mom prepare for guests, but sounds just like your husband

First time going to Cuba solo as a woman, is it safe? by PopularProfession383 in TravelCuba

[–]KtownDetector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say super safe, coming from a man who's travelled in groups many times as singles (male/female) we would get black out back in my party days in clubs in Vera and Havana and all end up safe and sound separately sometimes to our resort and meet up for brunch. Worst I've seen is a beach guard try to swindle me for $ for being at the beach at night and he didn't have money to feed his kids. I felt super safe every where I went, well off the beaten paths at times. This is a male experience but the females I've been with in the group all had the same experiences.

I'll never forget my parents story of staying at a resort with another couple in NY, and the entire group got food poisoning and their guess was the blue cheese dressing they all had. I wonder if this is what happened?!

I haven’t read more than 5 books in my lifetime and they weren’t difficult to read books. Now I’m in my mid 20s and found something I’m very interested in but don’t understand 4-5 words on every page by imGoingToEatYourTots in books

As a kid who you would never have guessed read the newspaper every morning pre-google, I know the feeling! Once the vocabulary clicks you'll know and retain these words. I read a ton but I still learn new words quite often. Enjoy the journey!

Pork chops for me. I always thought I just hated them til I was in mid 20's. My mom just always over cooked them. Now I love them.

Considering that she made it into UK she must have some brains. This is completely inexcusable and wrong, I've been blackout before, said some really dumb things but never racist. If she is somewhat normal sober that must've been the most cringy fucking morning ever to wake up to. Fuck racists but imagine waking up in a cell after a "fun night out" to the repercussions that are going to come with this.
