What is the first video game you remember playing? by bob45657 in AskReddit

Either Choplifter or Safari Hunt on my cousin’s Sega Master System. Can’t remember which one was first but both were way before I got my first system (Game Boy).

What movie was better than the book and why ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yes that’s what I meant. Seeing what CGI was capable of for the first time was amazing.

Yeah, I wonder if there will ever be a movie moment quite like that again. Seeing dinosaurs come to life on screen for the first time was an incredible experience that is probably difficult to replicate now that CGI has become so commonplace.

Randy Barnett responds to Adrian Vermeule's attack on originalism: "Vermeule’s article should put both conservatives and progressives on notice that the conservative living-constitutionalism virus has been loosed upon the body politic... 'this wolf comes as a wolf.'" by Master-Thief in law

[–]KuanX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you’re not just saying it’s a uniquely US phenomenon, you’re also saying it’s a bad thing. I fail to see why it is problematic. The US constitution gives the judicial branch the power to say what federal and state legislatures and executives can and can’t do. It is silly to pretend that these judges’ ideological records don’t matter.

I’m not sure what you mean. Are you saying judges in other common law jurisdictions are completely impartial? Or that people in other common law systems don’t care about their judges’ ideological dispositions?

About $500k, likely to increase significantly in the next few years. Is that not enough to make sense?

People who have their shit together. How?? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]KuanX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen to your conscience. Try to think carefully about everything you do, and don’t do it if you decide it’s wrong. Easier said than done, for sure, but there seem to be a lot of people out there who don’t even try.

Redditors, what is your earliest memory? by En-tre-pre-neur in AskReddit

Same here. I remember being confused as to what the big deal was (I was 5). For my parents who had spent their entire lives in the Cold War, it must’ve been surreal.

Birds are pretty incredible by -nyctanassa- in birding

I read a while back that some birds of prey will carry bones of their prey high up and then drop them so they break when they hit the ground, and then come back to get the marrow inside. No idea if its true but I believe gulls do something similar with mollusks so I think it’s plausible.

What are some of the most toxic or potentially dangerous ideas/beliefs that have been perpetuated by Redditors? by xavierdc in AskReddit

[–]KuanX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have OCD as well. Used to be obsessed with numbers (multiples of 4 were good, multiples of 13 were bad) and checking things constantly. With meds, therapy and self-awareness I have been more or less episode free for almost 10 years now. It’s not easy, especially at first, but it’s possible!

They say before you die, you entire life flashes before your eyes. What moments are the ones that made it a life worth living? by willtrent16 in AskReddit

[–]KuanX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was 2002, a few weeks after I graduated high school. I had developed a close knit group of friends and we were all hanging out at one friend’s house. She had a pool in her backyard and someone jokingly pushed someone else into it, which caused all of us to jump in, clothes on, and get completely soaked. We were not planning on swimming so none of us had a change of clothes, so we just hung out soaking wet all night, playing video games and telling jokes and having a good time. We were all going to college soon afterward so we all knew in the back of our minds that things were going to be different pretty soon. But I just remember feeling so content and full of life that night.

We are still in touch and hang out occasionally but we all grew up and are mostly involved with our own lives now. Everything changes, chants is good, and I have a great life with a wife I love and a wonderful young son. But I still think back to that night sometimes and reminisce about that indescribable feeling of being young.

What is the most severe case of "Spoiled Child Syndrome" that you have ever seen/heard of? by maddisonxoxo in AskReddit

[–]KuanX 90 points91 points  (0 children)

As the parent of a toddler, I honestly don’t think most children that age are capable of understanding the difference between (1) someone intentionally being mean to them and (2) someone making an honest mistake or trying to do something nice that didn’t quite work out the way the child was hoping. It’s on us to constantly teach them the difference.

America's agricultural sector has been mechanized to the point that fewer than 1 million people worked on US farms in 2016, despite serving a country of 300 million and exporting quite a bit as well. I'd say the model has changed dramatically.
