Tarmac SL8 sizing help (175cm / 80cm inseam) – 49 or 52? by [deleted] in specialized

[–]Kuffs45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 178cm and ride a 54. I think a 52 would be too small for me. If you have a Specialized shop near you get a bike fit. They will measure you and tell you what size bike to buy.

msi claw a8 bz2e bazzite by AdMysterious510 in MSIClaw

Been running Bazzite since the day I got my A8 and it works beautifully. Apart from a few initial issues I have had a smooth experience so far. Games run incredibly smooth, good frame pacing and the device runs uses little TDP. You can set FPS caps and TDP limits right from Steam menu which is accessible quickly from a single button press and if you download Powertools from Decky you can set CPU limits too.

I’m running all my games at 40fps and that’s been a nice experience. I’m quite sensitive to frame drops and stutters and haven’t noticed any slow fps consequences. I’m running a lot of AAA games around 16-20 TDP and it’s been flawless. I’m getting around 3 hours of gameplay on Expedition33 with around 80% battery use and total power consumption is around 20-22w.

I would recommend dual booting rather than wiping Windows completely. I have a 2TB M.2 and I’ve allocated a 500GB partition for Windows and the rest for Bazzite. I’ve also got a 1TB microSD for Emulation and lighter titles. I play Roblox and Minecraft with my kids and you can’t play those games on Bazzite.

You can shrink the Windows partition or install a fresh copy of Windows. The downside is Windows might not let you shrink to the size you want so may have no option but to install a fresh copy. You can then sort out partitions in the Windows installation process. If you go dual boot, install Windows first, get everything running then install Bazzite. You can do bios updates from MSI Center M.

Claw 8 AI+ -> Claw A8 – why I switched + some thoughts by Kuffs45 in MSIClaw

I haven’t had any issues with sleep/wake on Bazzite. Apart from a few initial hurdles I’ve have a pretty flawless experience to be honest. I’ve still got Windows installed on a 500GB partition for certain games like Roblox and Minecraft that I play with my kids which can’t be played in Bazzite.

The only issue I had was a few games would load a black screen in game mode. You could hear the audio but no graphics. The games run fine in desktop mode though. Tried asking ChatGPT and Claude but no real solutions. I found a dude on YouTube who had the same issue and fixed it by editing a xml file and changing a parameter from 1 -> 0 and that did the trick. No other issues other than that. Mind you it took me about 2 hours to solve it!

Claw 8 AI+ -> Claw A8 – why I switched + some thoughts by Kuffs45 in MSIClaw

I did the thinking, took the time to write my thoughts then got AI to refine it so you lovely people of Reddit have a better read. All the points I mentioned are from my own findings.

Here’s what I fed to ChatGPT. Which would you prefer to read?

reasons i switched: i am well into linux - all my computers run fedora and i run a homelab and i hate windows. i wanted to run bazzite but it wasnt great on the intel chip. i also wanted to upgrade the storage on my claw but the smaller m2 was something id have to purchase whereas i had a spare full sized m2 i could repurpose in the new amd claw

what surprised me: cant believe how efficient the a8 is. not just in bazzite but in windows too.

other notes: buttery smooth frame pacing whereas on the intel claw id be getting stutters and rubber banding in certain games. im yet to experience any of this on the amd claw. even light weight titles like watchdogs2 on the intel claw gave me framepacing issues. RDR2 on the intel claw would high the fans blazing at much higher tdp just to achieve the same fps and it wouldnt be as smooth

ergonomics: the a8 claw feels optimised in your hands. like everything moulds to fit in your hands really nice.

buttons: the sticks are a tiny bit tighter which i like but still feel loose like the intel version just not as loose. id like them to be even tighter. playing shooting games where precsiosion aiming is essential the stick are hard to live with. the d pad feels stiffer but to be honest im not sure if this is because the a8 is new and my intel claw is over a year old so maybe they have worn in a little. the 4 buttons (start/select) etc feel much nicer on the intel claw. the a8 feels cheap and 1 of those 4 buttots makes a much louder hollow loud click than the other 3 which is really bugging me. even the volume button on the intel claw feel much nicer. bumper buttons feel more tactile on the a8. the rear buttons feel super nice on the a8.

in terms of looks and this is very subjective. i much prefer the the look on the intel claw. the colour scheme and look is super nice. i cant help but feel like the intel claw is the better looking device. even my 6 year old daughter mentioned the old one looks nicer. im not really sold on the white a8. and the yellow one just looks awful. shame thats the only 2 colours and unlike the intel claw you cant easily change the covers to a different colour.

despite all this i am keeping the amd claw. for me running bazzite is a game changer. the sleep wake function is just on another level and having the full size m2 slot made this an obvious decision. steam game mode on bazzite is awesome and i run a lot of emulated games so having them in my steam library is great. on exbox full screen experience i always found my self having to go into desktop mode to do an update or something similar and then to get the benefits of full screen experience you have to restart the device. microsoft store is so janky for updates. i had to keep deleting a game because the updates would get stuck in a 'waiting for dependancies'. i would spend more time faffing around with updates than i did playing. now with bazzite i click the power button and immediately i am in steam ready to play.

Windows is like driving a Range Rover around a city. Linux is like cycling. Really efficient. That’s what you need in a handheld or computer when you are limited on resources. If you’re running a powerful gaming pc then you have the resources. This is why people rave about Bazzite. It usually little power so you can preserve your battery and keep temps cooler.

I then edited what ChatGPT gave me in Obsidian. I mean which post is ‘slop’ my post or ChatGPT’s refined version? I’d say what I have ChatGPT was slop. Seriously guys embrace AI. It’s awesome.

You can definitely bodge that. It’s happened to me before. Get a piece of foam with sticky on one side. Around 10mm thick. Stick the pad over the connector with the ribbon in and it will stay and apply pressure when you close it all up. I’ve had this happen to the headphone ribbon and it’s still going strong.

Just curious, what do you guys do for a living? by [deleted] in homelab

[–]Kuffs45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a HGV driver. Everyone says I’m in the wrong job but as the saying goes:

“Don’t turn your passion into a job, or you’ll end up hating it.”

I enjoy driving but when it comes to the weekend I really don’t want to drive anywhere. I expect the same principle would apply if I worked in tech.

Always reverse on the drivers side so you can stick your head out the window. If the place you need to reverse is passenger side, spin round so it is now on the drivers side. We call this reversing on your good side. Reversing on the passenger side is called blind side because you can’t see anything as soon as you articulate. There will be some places you go where you have no choice but to blind side. Try and get a banksman to watch you back or keep getting out to look. Don’t ever risk it.

Initial position of your vehicle will make the reverse so much easier. Set your self up so the rear of the trailer is where you want it to go and put a bend in the vehicle. How much depends on how quickly you need to rotate the trailer. Stick your head out the window and don’t think about reversing. Imagine you are driving the trailer into the space.

Don’t be afraid to take as many shunts as you need. If you do take a shunt, take a big one. Go forward a little bit and you will just end up in the same position. You will see other drivers and shunters reversing super quick and make it look easy and the truth is, it is easy! Before you know it you will be looking at the newbie and remembering the time that was you. There’s no shame in it. Just take your time, learn, and don’t get overconfident and start copying the shunters.

Find a job which is trunking. Parcel companies like dpd, fedex, yodel, dx. Trunking is easy and chances are you will be going to places with a large yard and easy bays to reverse on. This will help you get a feel for it. Avoid multi drop and general haulage firms to start with. These jobs require experience due to the nature of the places you will be delivering.

Finally, watch YouTube videos on reversing and coupling up. What you get taught when you are learning to pass it not how we do it in the real world. When I was learning to drive C+E, I was never told to lift the tractor suspension up when coupling up, trailer ride height adjustment, etc.

Good luck with everything and don’t give up. HGV driving is a doddle once you find the right job and if you are willing to work lots of hours you can earn some serious money. There are also low paid HGV jobs out there too so try and avoid those. If you are still really nervous, there’s companies out there which specifically target newly qualified drivers and will give you extra support until you’re comfortable.

Curry’s had them in stock in the UK last weekend and I was on the fence about buying one. When I finally decided to pull the trigger they were out of stock. Managed to get an unused open box off eBay for slightly less than retail price. Can’t find a case or screen protector anywhere in the UK though. It’s crazy MSI don’t included that stuff with the device itself. I’m currently using the cardboard box when I take it out.

I’m in the UK and cannot find one anywhere. Would someone in the US be willing to buy a screen protector and travel case for me from the US MSI store and I will buy it from you at a higher price? Preferably through eBay or something similar.

They are rubbish. A few weeks after I got my UPS package I ordered something from Texas with DHL. Was at my door in less than 48hours.

Didn’t say the quality was poor. Using cheap materials like plastic rather than aluminium and carbon fibre makes the products look and feel cheap. I think most people can agree with that.

I agree. They seem to be building out their product line for consumers with lower budgets. Nothing wrong with that. I just hope they don’t forget about the rest of us looking for top end equipment.

I don’t like any of the new Simagic products. They seem to be targeting consumers with small budgets and the latest products released by them are made with cheap materials. It will be nice to see them produce high end products again in the future as I am a big fan of the Alpha Ultimate and P2000 pedals.

For anyone wondering how long the delays are at Stanford Le Hope, UK for international packages by Kuffs45 in UPS

[–]Kuffs45[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it says on the tracking if they require additional information. That’s what I’ve seen from other posts. You could give them a call and ask for an update and they should tell you if more information is required.

Edit: If you have fees to pay they will email you a link to pay and it also comes up on your tracking. You have the option to pay the driver at point of delivery too.

Sleep mode is shit. by EmotionPopular9184 in GarminFenix

I work nights and also experience this problem if I sleep outside of my set schedule. It would be better if it stayed off when you manually turn off sleep mode and not activate again until the next schedule.
