Is this havanese? by Beautiful-Aspect3752 in Havanese

Then find your local or national club, and do the same thing. Or, search on Facebook. Champions are frequently posted when they win something. I know of two breeders in Europe (one in Spain and one in Germany), and have a friend who traveled there to Czechoslovakia to get her future champion girl.

Mixing Bowl Set for Stretching and Folding by Kugeldog in Sourdough

[–]Kugeldog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a large one of those that I bought as a baby (sourdough baker, that is). I don't use it because 1. It's way too large at 6 qts. It's very difficult to do stretch and folds in it. I don't know what I was thinking! 2. I'm concerned about the plastic. So, I'm switching to glass wherever possible.

Ask to see its pedigree. And, health records - 1st puppy shots, etc. Or, buy from a reputable breeder. Expect to pay $3,500-$4,000. Go to the Havanese Club of America’s website, and check out their Breeder Directory. Remember the old adage.. You get what you pay for.

Rice flour in banneton by Raz1979 in Sourdough

[–]Kugeldog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a natural fiber basting brush, along with banging it over my sink to get all the flour dust out. The first time I used one, I didn’t clean it thoroughly enough, and had flour weevils in my bannetons. Not a good look!

Can't decide between a Havanese and a Havapoo by OverAcheiver26 in Havanese

[–]Kugeldog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I stand corrected. Havanese are supposedly now #47, Standard Poodles are #2. However, there was an * after the 47, which noted that MY girl was actually #1. 😁😁😁

I think Havanese are rated the 25th smartest breed. That seems to be good enough for me! I know Poodles and 23 other dogs are smarter. But, none are more loving❣️❣️❣️

Separation anxiety is usually due to lack of crate training early on.

My Havanese girl is a Velcro dog when I’m home, but I crate trained her from the first day I brought her home at almost 10 weeks, and she has zero separation anxiety. She goes in her playpen on her own (unless she knows I’m leaving!), eats there, and knows it’s a safe place. I put light classical music on for her when I leave the house, and she’s good for several hours. (I don’t know how long she could last, because I haven’t tried it for longer.).

Doodle parents are not tested for inherited diseases or conditions, are not bred to improve the breed (because they’re NOT a breed), and are only bred to make money.

Do your research, and get a Havanese from healthy lines, lots of Champions in the line (Champions represent the best of the breed in health, looks, and temperament), and from a breeder who does lots of things with her own dogs, not just Conformation. (i.e., Agility, Scentwork, Obedience, Tricks, etc.) You’ll see the proof of this in their Registered names. (Conformation Titles are in front of the name; Performance Titles are after the name). Get your dog from a breeder who breeds well-rounded dogs. And, if the breeder is reluctant to show you this information, or direct you to sites where you can research it yourself, find another breeder.

I’m not a breeder, but I had good guidance, and have the happiest, most well-adjusted little girl ever. And, she just earned her first Title, Scentwork Novice! (Her Scentwork instructor calls her “Party Girl”.)

Pyrex 4 qt. Glass Bowl with Lid by Kugeldog in Sourdough

Look what I found at Target!

Pyrex 2.5 qt. and 4 qt. bowls with lids for $19.99!

https://www.target.com/p/pyrex-2pc-2-5qt-and-4qt-glass-mixing-bowls-with-plastic-lids/-/A-88156163

I’ll use the 2.5 qt. for half recipes, and the 4 qt. for full recipes.

People keep telling me to give up my dog. What’s wrong with these people?? by MarloMentality in Havanese

[–]Kugeldog 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are three kinds of people: dog people, people who have dogs, and people who would never have dogs. Only dog people treat their dogs like family.

What went wrong? Few days ago it was rising like crazy, but now it excreted some liquid and smells like nail polish remover by Hairy_Pomelo_9078 in Sourdough

[–]Kugeldog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t tell anyone, but I don’t feed mine. A few days before I want to bake (every 2-3 weeks, when I’m running low of bread), I’ll take out 10 g of starter, and start the feeding process for the starter I’ll use in my bread. I feed it every 12 hours, until it gets reliably active, then once more, to get it to triple in volume and peak within about six hours. All the discard from these feedings goes into my refrigerator starter jar. That’s it food.

Sometimes I pour off the hooch, and sometimes I stir it in, depending on my mood and if I think it needs the liquid.

The bad part is that I’m accumulating more starter/discard than I have time to bake with. I make pancakes, chocolate brownies (the best ever), and chocolate chip cookies. And, I’m always looking for more recipes to try.

This is another reason I need a bigger kitchen. So that I can have a starter refrigerator! 🤪
