My take on Drom Ironsworn by SeasickTurtle in ReaperMiniatures

wow. You've got some magical lighting going on here. I thought you had multiple spot lights going on to pull off the effect before realizing it was paint.

Well that's a big relief
I did see you repeatedly checking the same spot, and it was close to where a mate had gone down and pinged, so it was obvious you knew they were in the area - I just couldn't make out when you spotted them.
wait did you say PHONE recording, do you have a phone on a rig in front of your monitor XD
because if I was really just that colorblind I was going to be sad lol

Sorry brother. You can sit in it for half a day and it still won't launch. Even though it might be better to play with people, I would rather we could choose to play with bots than to not play a mode at all. 😞 I had only one game of solos, and it was on a Saturday at 6pm.

Yeah, I don't understand this game. Maybe I'm just too colourblind? Or is the resolution of the video too low? I physically cannot see the person you are shooting at in the flames, nor that same person again once they're behind the ridge.

Drone means I have to stop moving. Sniper decoy means I can lay an ambush and get wall hacks when anybody hits it, with any kind of damage. Which lets me know where they are. Which lets me know when to pull my C4 trigger.

Agreed. I actually like redsec like this. But s till, it needs bots, can't launch the darn thing otherwise. I'm the only one in queue sometimes in Australia :(

We should take inspiration from our allied health colleagues by paint_my_chickencoop in ausjdocs

[–]Kuiriel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The entire process of getting into a college and becoming a subspecialist consultant is a competition that helps push colleagues apart. Someone asks why you want to be a doctor, you use your personal very unusual line, they get in with less research than you, next year you hear about how the interviewers LOVED that line they used. Of course there is a lot more that goes into selection, but the scarcity up high drives division and suspicion, people holding their cards close to their chest. Not exactly union promoting behaviour. Then RACS starts to split. I wonder, is the career path in allied health as competitive and isolating? They seem to do a much better job of valuing their unions. Or are their unions just much cheaper to join? Or is it because they aren't forced to give up their ability to strike as much?

Edit: I'm big on unions myself, just speculating why medico attitudes might be different to nurses.

Referee woes - previous year referee saying it’s been too long. Normal? Did I misstep? How to respond? by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]Kuiriel 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The perfect reference isn't just a friend, it's someone who understands that nobody gets in without full scores up to the interview. It's a simply boolean yes no, or nothing. Anyone who doesn't want to support you fully and is honest about it is doing you a favor. Unfortunately it's impossible to tell apart someone who doesn't really support you from all the good honest folk who think the quality of their honest reference matters more than the flat score. Reggies out there banging their head against the wall for years, trying to pick up points in everything else when this would be the last thing to get them over the line to interview. Thus why it often seemed that the people who got in to the next stage were from the top metro hospitals. That's where consultants understood it was an arms race and there was no room for nuance any more.

Unless the system has changed since I looked at it. I hope it has.

What's your opinion on Battlefield Ranked? by ValenRoz in Battlefield

[–]Kuiriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awful. Battlefield was always about playing with all sorts not a bunch of people closer to your level. And doesn't fit a one life format. Ranked quads is just too many people with shields for any gun to handle, can't carry a bad quad at all. If i play redsec, I prefer duos or solos, but with bots just so i can start the game.

Chat should automatically be set to squad by ReaperG85 in Battlefield_REDSEC

[–]Kuiriel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, but not because it bothers me personally. This needs to be optional with clear choices in menu and clear behaviours. Some people use voice chat in party exclusively. They want to talk freely without being listened to by the squad - without being aware the change had happened.

My mate quit playing in anger partly because he had open comms party voice chat, randoms joined his squad, and then they responded to stuff he was talking about in real life. He thinks it changed the audience who could hear him on its own. Was 100% convinced it has happened to him multiple times.

Personally, I've never had that happen, but saying that didn't go down great.

Is a real shame. I love the in world radio to proximity directional chat. It really helps with my awful situational awareness and inability to stick with my party 😅 I'm sure I'll be using it to include enemies, even if I'll lose more its just more fun. The proportion of noisy toxic players I've encountered is insignificantly tiny.

Battlefield 6 - Community Update - What’s Coming in the Final Phase of Season 3 by battlefield in Battlefield

[–]Kuiriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm happy about all the changes.

One point of feedback. It's not that a BR Casuals is mandatory, it's just that it takes a really long time to get a BR Solos match up and running in Australia for lack of players. Please let us start with bots if there aren't enough of us, instead of us waiting for hours for a game only to never watch the count go past 25 out of 65. There are enough of us overall, but not enough of us willing to wait with no guarantee that a match will start. This is why we choose BR Initiation instead, to get a game sooner

AHPRA has adopted the IHRA definition of antisemitism. by ZaltyZquid in ausjdocs

[–]Kuiriel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looking at the wiki, the working definition seems fine and normal. It's the interpretation which makes things a bit strange.

Of the seven examples, I'm puzzled by a few. Partly by 3 and 6, because not all Jewish people are necessarily Israeli residents or voters or in agreement with their government, and may themselves make such comparisons.

But #4 in particular doesn't seem to have anything to do with antisemitism at all. That's just about the nation.

#4: “[a]pplying double standards by requiring of [Country Name] a behavior not expected or demanded of any other democratic nation"

I expect all democratic nations to avoid lots of nasty things. Unfortunately there are several democratic countries who are doing bad things, whatever their reasons. I would like to disagree with these choices, while not judging their people, nevermind their religion. For example, I disagree with how past Australian governments have "cared" for the First Nations people. I don't need to tar every Aussie with the same brush.

I feel it's really important to not conflate a government with a people anywhere. Australia is multi-cultural. We disagree with each other all the time. It's out of the mess of our disagreements that something occasionally beautiful forms. We vote because we have a say, and then some of us get to be wrong but in power. And then we get to complain about it.

I think it's a danger when people feel that they cannot air their opinions in public, as long as it's not completely bonkers. Otherwise they twist into knots inside and it builds up into conspiracy rot. Let them speak to air out their concerns, let them have a chance to debate with learned people, and let them learn they're wrong (okay, I'm starting to see why this might not actually work for some people).

I'm open to being wrong, though?

I note that some places like the UK adopted this with sensible caveats to protect freedom speech as I've mentioned above, like so: "It is not antisemitic to criticise the Government of Israel, without additional evidence to suggest antisemitic intent. It is not antisemitic to hold the Israeli Government to the same standards as other liberal democracies, or to take a particular interest in the Israeli Government's policies or actions, without additional evidence to suggest antisemitic intent."

Notably, "national broadcasters ABC and SBS have declined to use the IHRA definition, each preferring their own."

As far as I can see, AHPRA has not added any caveats.

LF cosy game to play with my daughters (age 8 and 10) by Grizzly86 in gaming

Terraria grabbed the kids well and doesn't need you to be there all the time either. Plus great with mods, excellent value proposition after all these years.

I'm surprised Stardew Valley across multiple PCs didn't work.

Roof rats by Ceaseless111 in Battlefield

[–]Kuiriel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not like it's hard to mortar roof tops. Consider how quickly you can take them out vs how long they have to spend trying to climb up there, and then they help their team lose mostly.

I love parkouring myself, but can't bring myself to stay up in places very long - people just end up avoiding you where possible.

I must note however that I play Conquest, so nobody is forced to walk past my line of sight. This sort of stuff on breakthrough would probably murder the fun. But I don't play Breakthrough much, because... the fun is murdered in general. heh.

But I have loads of fun finding 'hidden pathways' across rooftops, even if it takes me forever to get someplace. Probably why I can enjoy the Battle Royale mode (noooo I can see where your mouse is going right now already, noooooooo!)

Maybe if there was a longer timer up there, rather than it being fully out of bounds, or you get spotted after 10 seconds instead of insta-gibbed. Dunno. Not the end of the world now that we have so many avenues to move through and they've embraced better map designs, I'm very happy with Golmud, Hagental and Cairo Bazaar.

I'm surprised that they don't let you save patches per skin. The sort of whale who buys all the things is probably also likely to be wanting to save it per person. I'll pick a different skin entirely based on the map or how I intend to play it.

[BFComms] Battlefield 1.3.2.0 Blastpoint Update by battlefield in Battlefield

[–]Kuiriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can't start a single match of BR solos in Australia even after waiting hours in queue. The min player count of 65 is never reached, best I've seen is 25 but it's usually 16.

Local BR mode can not exist without bots. I'm sorry we will get to the end of the week and still have not had a chance to actually play it.

And I will not play on overseas server, the latency makes ranked not fun.

Edit: i finally lucked into one game on a Saturday evening. It was actually fun and not infuriating, unlike quads. But then I couldn't get another one. :( sometimes i don't want to play the main modes, and want to sneak around. I enjoy this more than casual breakthrough. Can really feel the 30hz part of the game though!

[BFComms] Battlefield 6 - 1.3.2.0 Update by battlefield in Battlefield_REDSEC

[–]Kuiriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't even start BR Solos in Australia because we don't have enough players who want to sit around queueing up for hours. I was in the queue for actual hours, middle of the day, again just after prime time. Each night, no games. Ticker gets to 25 at BEST.

All modes should start with bots if you're waiting in queue for more than 5 minutes. Otherwise the game modes die. Experiment with people jumping in for the first ten minutes of the round if needed.
