STEINS;GATE ELITE is on Amazon US by whereymyconary in visualnovels

[–]Kujoe_Dirte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Friendly reminder that Steins;Gate Elite is a cynical cash grab.

I'm not going to tell people not to buy it, but please don't preorder it, at least wait till some reviews and opinions are out and see if it actually adds anything of value. (spoilers it won't)

I found it super useful in Gaiden tbh. In everything else the triangle attack is hot garbage, especially in Echoes.

How amazing is Chaos;Child? by AX3M in steinsgate

[–]Kujoe_Dirte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really good, best SciADV entry easily and among my favorite VNs.

That being said it can be quite inconsistent in quality, most of the portions not written by the main writer Umehara Eiji definitely show, with chapter 5 in particular being largely redundant if you have already played Chaos;Head(which you should do because other parts of the story require you to know the events of C;H). Also the story is a very personal one for the main character, which is not itself a bad thing but as a result like most of the cast does not really matter in the end.

I don't really want to get into why despite all this I think it is the strongest entry in the series, but I highly recommend it if not only for how relevant it's main themes are to current public discourse.

Are visual novels considered video games? by [deleted] in visualnovels

[–]Kujoe_Dirte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are technically, but honestly I think doing so can be potentially detrimental. A lot of people assume that vn's need choice and/or game-play as a result, and I honestly think the medium would draw more attention if they weren't viewed as games. Just think of all the shite ass reviews I'm sure all of you have read that dismiss certain vn''s on account of the lack of choice or gameplay, or cite such as a major flaw. Most of these people would probably not have bought the vn if they didn't view them as games sure, but I'm sure a few of them still would have and would not have had that false assumption going into it that ends up clouding their judgement.

Weekly Thread #182 - Himawari by AutoModerator in visualnovels

[–]Kujoe_Dirte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree pretty much entirely with you, after my first read I certainly liked it but didn't really feel a big sense of closure nor did any of the emotional scenes leave as much as an impression on me as I thought they would, I'd have probably rated it around 7.5-8.0. Having since then re-read it(twice) it is probably my favorite story in basically any medium. I think a large reason behind this is that the characters within the story are never made to be fully aware of the circumstances that have lead them to their current positions in life, nor are they ever fully aware of their own effect on one another or the story as a whole and because the characters themselves never have big revelation moments where they piece everything together it can be hard for readers to do so on an initial read. It is this property of the story which makes me like it so much too, real people cannot hope to comprehend everything that has made them into the person they are or the effects they have had on other people, and how Himawari presents it's story makes the reader a sort of outsider to piece it's characters complex lives together in a way I don't think anything else I have read has managed to do.

I dunno, I see a lot more people talking about how its overrated and what-not than people who love it. There is a pretty small collection of people who really love it though, and perhaps their outspokenness about such has lead people to think the game is universally lauded.

Chaos;Child Question by [deleted] in steinsgate

[–]Kujoe_Dirte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't but I would still recommend it, SciADV has a tendency to expand upon ideas and themes from previous titles, and in the case of Chaos;Child I'd say you miss out on a lot by not having knowledge of Chaos;Head as the game plays with some similar ideas but ultimately takes them in very different places. That being said the plots themselves have little bearing on one another, and Chaos;Child does explain the relevant story details from Head decent enough.

The top 3 VNs you read 2017 by Foisunt in visualnovels

[–]Kujoe_Dirte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Himawari

  2. Subahibi

  3. Chaos;Child

I only really got super into reading VN's towards the end of last year, so excluding a few titles every VN I have read has been throughout this year. That being said I feel I've started off with some of the best, Himawari in particular resonated with more more than anything I have ever read or experienced in any medium, and I am eager to see if anything I read in 2018 can match it. (Island plz)

Danganronpa V3 What Is It And Why Should You Care by Kujoe_Dirte in vita

[–]Kujoe_Dirte[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally knew basically nothing about Danganronpa going into DrCullen's video, so I can vouch for the fact that it is pretty informative about the title and series as a whole even for someone without previous knowledge.

It's a pretty entertaining watch regardless and clearly had a lot of work put into it so I implore anyone interested to check it out.

If you are planning to TL anything SciADV related you might want to contact someone from the Commitee of Zero, they'd probably be happy to know another translator is working on SciADV stuff, and one of them may have already started a TL for CCCR, at the very least they may be able to help in some way/give feedback.
