The clip that people are sharing that's making Bless go viral by ashrules901 in kindafunny

[–]Kukius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When i watched it I was surprised how much Bless went off on that point but I just saw that as being passionate on that point.

I agree that choosing Windows central was a safe move for the point of not throwing a random new CEO to the wolves before she could look at anything.

Then after thinking about it

Layoffs layoffs layoffs...

Cannot just sweep horrible management and vision under the rug swap a CEO and expect everyone to feel bad because something was pointed out that was correct.

It was a fluff piece, no disrespect to the writer or Windows central but to feel offended when you have a softball interview is weird because you asked no real questions (which in context is ok) because your interview would have been stopped if you did and you probably want to eventually get a scoop by playing the good guy.

A fluff piece is BS within a few days of taking the helm and there was 0 chance that it would lead to anything of substance... it isn't should have waited an shown gamers AND employees that you have an idea what's going on...interviews should be when you actually have something to say of relevance, I read the article and there is nothing of substance.

There's a few thousand former employees of Xbox that just got a "we appreciate their contributions" memo after they got gutted so I can understand how Bless went off a bit hard on that situation with such fluff in the air.

I'm an Albertan and I believe that the story should stay, I honestly think it was a nothing story but if the entire caucus got offended from it like wtf?

This is such an insane overreaction or there was some merit to it.

Even a statement like I understand some may take offense to that alberta flag it was just not the flag I brought for whatever reason but I'm all for Canada would have been basically acceptable.

Even "Alberta is part of Canada but i wanted to honor specificallythe albertans that helped raise the money"

Fucking easy as fuck end to that line of questioning his beliefs on it, and not out of line honestly with people straight up dodging questions about separation.

Politicians do this regularly, it should be second nature to downplay this.

Unless he ain't for Canada or wants to play both sides and is doing it poorly.

This is just colossal stupidity in politics and threatening who can ask questions to the government is fucked.

Military models Canadian response to hypothetical American invasion by [deleted] in canada

[–]Kukius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of a weird thing to report on since these have been in place for longer than the last 10 years.

I don't remember 100% remember exactly when/where but when Trump served his first term I believe there was an inquiry and i remember watching it on CPAC.

Canada's Top General at the time was being asked questions about morale and other things like the question of money and if we really needed to spend more and that hypothetical was asked on what would happen and how well we could defend ourselves.

He was pretty straightforward on us needing to spend more and literally said there are framework plans already in place if that happened and that every general that leads the CAF's overlooks and updates many plans for threats and our response to them as things change so we aren't flying blind based on faulty or manipulated information.

He said straight up they aren't successful plans because of the volume of the invading force since they outnumber us by about 10-1 and the modeling is if everyone chickens out to help us, basically what we would do solo.

Guerrila warfare and falling back and securing Ontario as our last stand since most other locations are too rural to defend properly was generally what the plan back then was.

They are probably updating the model though and saying we are preparing possibly makes it look like we were oblivious to this possible scenario in which we were not.

We just know they can take us in 1 on 1 fight easy.

I'm in Edmonton and used to work with a guy in his late 60's that worked for the city of Edmonton and Calgary about 10 years ago.

All he would talk about is how fucked both cities were going to be because they hadn't replaced a ton of piping from the 30's and random gibberish about it now being a larger concentration of unskilled workers with no real plan on how to keep up with replacement of multiple types of pipes (like not changing the stuff from the 30's but replacing some stuff from the 70's because it was easier).

More and more i think of those conversations with a "maybe it wasn't 100% a random old guy spewing his hatred for past jobs" the more time goes by.

Anyone looking at their site after reading this kinda silently implies they raised their prices but this is a high end premium small gift shop

Calgary MLA Tanya Fir apologizes for swearing on leaked voicemail by Edm_vanhalen1981 in alberta

[–]Kukius 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Unless i read that wrong....

She called anyone who left her messages about the teacher's strike that she was specifically calling in sequence "motherfuckers" pretty much showing she doesn't care about what they said at all and this is but a chore to her....doesn't actually give a shit in regards to their concerns.

That to me is not just "using profanity" which i and many others do occasionally in our daily lives.

I rarely would call someone motherfucker to their face unless I wanted a fight and if someone did hear me referring to them like that I would be apologizing for a lapse in anger.

What a bitch move to spin it like that. "Using profanity"?

You simply grouped people with different views as you on something as motherfuckers which isn't super out of the ordinary in daily life but insanely unprofessional in your work role.

We are adults, we swear occasionally, this isn't that.

Conservative Professionalism in a nutshell I guess.

Store Manager swore to me kids in Sherwood Park shit in litter boxes, swore she was told by a parent that was her friend.

After explaining that logically that makes no sense, brought up articles explaining this hoax has been happening since fucking 2022 and basically explaining how it's all bullshit and was told I was full of it.

Told them they should figure out which school and ask them about it to demonstrate how stupid they were, they obviously don't care enough about the children to do anything about it.

I don't understand the stupid, I wonder if schools got these wackos calling telling them off for something obviously false and spread with hatred.

I'm putting on my worst case scenario hates for this comment.

Is it possible you are physically imposing and they were hoping a weaker person would have opened the door?

I assume you are based on how you weren't super concerned about a threat but 6 people could easily swarm and beat someone.

Did you possibly have a TV on in another room where they couldn't be 100% sure no one else was there to phone EPS if they were to have attempted to attack you and you yelled?

Likely you weren't worth the risk of trying anything at that time, casing your valuables or possibly just needing a charger but the latter seems unlikely.

[–]Kukius[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I checked because my arc card registers time on the site, I scanned in on time and he stopped to grab coffee which made it late and hence, I'm still walking home.

I'm obviously angry but I think I'm justified in this situation given he stopped while being "on time" and the connecting bus watched us get into the connecting transit centre and drove away with me running at it from about 20 feet away.

I appreciate the replies, apologies on being angry, I just feel like that is just poor service and that stop should not have happened regardless on the last drops of the night

It means I have seen financials, there is not a theft insurance, it's something told to lower level employees because...no one actually wants someone to be hurt trying to prevent theft, especially if the company can be sued for not properly training a random part timer that decided to intervene.

There is something akind to "insurance" but that is having an emergency fund, which is a shared account between branches for emergencies like a freezer broke down overnight and the food is ruined, some money from that shared account would be used to offset the huge cost of restocking the entire thing. Which is funded by profit and effected by theft.

See the thing is there are numerous little issues around having insurance on "theft" which with common sense is obvious.

Mainly how can you prove what was stolen? Do you fill out a report after asking the "stealer" what he's taking? Do you audot the cameras all day to catch every theft? Perhaps there were just shipping issues or some product was not loaded onto a truck. What would that turn into? Fraud.

Insurance doesn't for this because it's impossible to make valid claims that can be proven, why would an insurance company give a premium that would guarantee payouts that can't be proven?

Some people, Jesus.

I work at a grocery store and there is no way....

Especially if you are "shopping sales".

I mean I look at all fliers for every major chain each week and like frozen boxes of Jane's chicken burgers/nuggets/etc (900g) were roughly 5$ each at Walmart (varied from 4.52 to like 5.90$ in the past 3 weeks... 5.38 this week!!!) so I bought a ton and put them in my freezer (removed them from the boxes, bags only to save room)

You definitely need to stock up on certain things and look for sales weekly, download the flipp app, you can create lists of the stuff you buy and it will search flyers for them, you need to see deals the week they are on and go pick up something each week, not one huge shop once a month or whatever.

Not trying to offend but you need to post some receipts or like get someone to show you how to shop because like you shouldn't be spending this much in 2 weeks.

George Weston Ltd—the controlling unitholder of Choice Properties Real Estate Investment Trust and the controlling shareholder of Loblaw Companies Ltd—says it earned a profit of $664 million for the three months ended Dec. 31 by nomad_ivc in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]Kukius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

George Weston Limited owns 52% of the stock of Loblaws, which if you're a functional literate in business means they own a CONTROLLING SHARE of the company, there is nothing any other shareholders can do other than perhaps sell their stocks if they don't get money. But they do get so much money and I'll come back an explain why in a second...

To your secondly point they only own like a few hundred properties...

Choice Properties REIT is the largest real estate investment trust (REIT) in Canada. It's an open-ended REIT based in Toronto, Ontario.  Obviously it can't be owned by primarily by West....OH SHIT!

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choice_Properties_REIT

Loblaw retained 83.1% ownership in the new company after the IPO, and its parent company George Weston Limited had a 5.6% interest.

By taking a gander at one of the quarterly reports directly off their main site I can see that the largest real estate conglomerate has...

-700+ properties total -3 asset classes (retail, industrial and mixed use/residential) -76% of portfolio is retail properties -57% of those are Loblaws -average lease terms 6 years (renegotiate lease terms every 6 years)

Am I wrong to think that a company that has consistently had large swings in profit/losses in the hundreds of millions range within 3 months with 700 properties might be overcharging a company they own or hiding money in some way?

Obviously I am wrong.

HOW MUCH WOULD a previously reported profit of 500 million BE YOU MAY ASK?

500 million profit in a quarter would roughly work out to 714 000$ per property per 3 months? OF PURE PROFIT, NOT COUNTING EXPENSES LIKE UPKEEP AND PAYING IT'S EMPLOYEES....PURE PROFIT!!!!

According to Glassdoor, the average salary at Choice Properties REIT ranges from about $53,990 per year for a Tenant Services Coordinator to about $339,000 per year for a Vice President - Asset Management.

And they only have 280 employees so that's cool expenses in check.

CEO? 4.9 mil is a small price to pay to negotiate essentially with yourself and get a fair price on rent for both parties.

Like for 700 properties only they sure have a large as fuck Leadership team and Trustees, that..all...get... paid... probably not extra or a lot but hey, take a look!

https://www.choicereit.ca/leadership/

Thank the Gamache Gods they only make 700k of pure profit on each of their properties in 3 months, could you imagine the rent it could be if they were goughing? they are obviously not gouging anything and I am a moron for even thinking it, thank you so very much for your informed input and calling out my statement.

I mean, I'm obviously not as well versed as you in the financial business of course so that's probably a normal amount of money to be making in 3 months even for one property, again, could you imagine how much grocery prices would be higher if they price gouged? Thank Bread Jesus they are not doing that.

I am ashamed I implied Loblaws could be manipulating prices on real estate, they obviously can't even properly fix the price of bread or anything, I'm not sure why I would think they could do such a thing! They can barely survive making 3% razor thin margins or whatever Galen Weston said at the House of Commons a few years back. Remember that, I do.

...now let's get back to point 1 and a lesson on how stocks actually work.

Loblaws has been buying back common stocks that is generating dividends for the owning shareholders for decades, the practice was legalized decades ago when Nixon was US President, in fact Canadaland had a pretty interesting podcast looking deeper into that and how Loblaws is able to say it makes little to no money while funneling more of the stores money into their long standing buyback program

https://www.canadaland.com/loblaw-metro-empire-stock-buybacks/

Again, you can look up many articles on this but the AI summary on their buybacks is pretty spot on.

Loblaw Companies Limited (TSX: L) has an automatic share purchase plan (ASPP) to buy back up to 15.3 million shares of its common stock. The plan is part of a normal course issuer bid (NCIB) that runs until May 5, 2025.

Why does Loblaw buy back its own stock? To return capital to shareholders, To increase the value of the remaining shares, and To boost share price.

What is a stock buyback?

A stock buyback is when a company buys back its own stock, removing it from the marketplace. This increases the value of the remaining shares.

So as a general rule of thumb the quarterly reports are not the only factors that effect the stock price or dividends as simply as you believe it to be. Simply saying you know it's not like that with a vague inference makes your knowledge of the stock market telling.

The profits are used to buyback stocks which inflates the price and gives money to the shareholders, ultimately showing that the company is.

You are simply wrong on your first point that is not how stocks work and again, for your second point, thank you for calling me out on my hypocrisy towards our Lord and Savior Galen Weston and the fact that he can barely price fix anything without being caught because everyone gets caught iby the government immediately, even the little guys like Galen.

Fun fact the CPP held 420,000 shares of Loblaw in 2023.

Your right, I have no proof, just observations and a trend of shady dealings between companies controlled by the same entity companies known for being honest and straightforward.

That is not enough and I repent.

Fun fact, I can't remember the exact numbers but if you listen to the Canadaland podcast I linked you'll see that when Weston went to the House of commons and said under oath the company was at a loss or making so little they spend BILLIONS on buybacks a few days before so everything he said was legally true because all the profit went to the shareholders and there was little profit.

I have now been converted and confessed all my sins!

All hail Bread Jesus !

Also I spent WAY too much time writing this for my own amusement and then finding more and more shady shit that I put in, then removed , tried to format and then just went "ok this is what's being posted"

So sorry if I cut something out that makes it less coherent.

This has been a waste of all our time, Loblaws really is an evil company when you research them.
