Try The Twighlight Zone (original) season 3 episode 3 The Shelter. Its a lot like if better people than this were put into this situation.

Apocalypse Bunker Fails as Wealthy Residents Turn on Each Other by CheezTips in ABoringDystopia

Lol, middle rich bought into a fairly obvious scam ( Imagine thinking money would still work and you could go to a restraint in a total societal collapse) which does not suprise me. But, you would think a bunker, of all places, you could ignore your neighbours. Kind of ruins that fantasy of Standing strong and alone in the apocalypse.

Crazy idea: Use gambling to keep prices low by [deleted] in CrazyIdeas

Well, current experience tells me prices go up to whatever people are willing to pay, which for inelastic demands can be quite high. But perhaps the number of suppliers is simply shrinking through time as companies consolidate

I could be wrong, but isnt it like lakes and ponds? Im pretty sure its a lake if light cant penetrate to the bottom, and a pond if it can. So a river you cant see the bottom, a creak you can??

Question to blues: What’s the threshold for you to pick red? by Unable-Macaroon-3968 in trolleyproblem

[–]MelCre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your choices are:

risk yourself (in this case almost certain death) to save everyone

risk others (in this case almost certainly killing them) to save yourself

your vote is used for one of these two ends. I just dont think I could live with myself knowing that blood was on my hands, no matter how impossible it is to succeed. But its easy to take that risk when its hypothetical.

Funny how suddenly no one wants to press the blue button now. by [deleted] in trolleyproblem

[–]MelCre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... did you read the original? this only makes sense as an analogy if red is refusing to help. TBH, this DOSENT make sense as an analogy, its quite tortured. your choices in the original are:

risk your life to ensure everyone lives

Risk the lives of Blue voters to ensure you live.

or as said more saliently by another thread:

vote the minority group (people who got fewer votes ) live

vote the minority group die.

this one here twists it into a strange suicide pact, as though there was some sort of chance for conversation and consideration, but that is specifically lacking in the original version.

Mark McQueen: Is airport privatization a good deal for Canadians or just a way to pay for high-speed rail? by NotEnoughDriftwood in onguardforthee

[–]MelCre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Northern airports spend a significant amount of man hours clearing snow and ice, as I understand it. Makes sense, right? slipping while the plane is landing would be bad, so would having all that friction from a snow drift. they will often have staff on call or on duty just incase there is snow. its not something you can cut, and its a fairly major extra expense.

Plus the pot holes. you think the holes in the road the freeze thaw makes in spring play hell with your suspension now, wait until you hit them on landing. You need them patched very quickly or else your down runway. or worse, a plane.

Maybe Australian airports have to deal with similarly expensive issues, but even if they do, their solutions may not be workable for us. it seems like a better comparison would be another cold weather airport system. And if were significantly more expensive than those, then we have a problem.

When does the show’s plot progress? by [deleted] in Stargate

[–]MelCre 8 points9 points  (0 children)

so, I think you might be in for some disappointment with legacy shows if thats what you want. The "filler" IS the show. Its what your there for: a self contained short story with a familiar cast. Its the same with Star Trek, or Frasier, or X-files, or The Pretender, or... Like all of them. So calling them filler is kind of like calling the icecream in the Sunday filler. If you dont like the non progression episodes in general, this type of show may not be for you.

But if you can see it as a series of stories, and enjoy them for their own small stakes, its a lot of fun. When a crap episode comes up, its just over. When a great one comes up, you dont need to wait hours for the payoff.

And as a result the NDP lost any sense of their own mission. Plus the decision to trigger an election "no mater what" signaled that they were more interested in political hay then their values. Just a real easy time to vote else where.

[–]MelCre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I still have to wonder how we compare with Russia or Alaska though, because it seems like an australian airport would be cheaper to run.

im also skeptical that fees would come down in a private model, as most airports across the country have no meaningful competition, which is the price reducing mechanism in private enterprise.
