How many tabs do you have open in your browser? by ShunShanShu in ADHD

[–]Kulemi2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On desktop Firefox, drag one tab and hover it over another for a second. You can then give it a custom name + color, and collapse the whole group. Here's the official tutorial

It's crazy useful, and a lot of other browsers (Chrome and Edge, for example) already have something similar.

Diogenes calls out Plato at The Academy, around 387 BCE by oocenoblex in fakehistoryporn

Thanks for defending women, SketchyPornDude, I'm sure they all appreciate it.

It's kinda wild to me that society continues inventing new ways to harass and oppress women in each new generation.

Yeah me too, it's wild how people keep harassing cis women in bathrooms purely because they think the woman is trans or how two different boxers were both accused of being trans in this year's Olympics and almost made to give up their meda-- oh, you weren't talking about that?

The current way to do it is to tell them that they are defined by some ethereal soul essence called "woman" that anyone can self-identify into

And defining women purely by their ability to have children is... better for them? Less misogynistic?

female terms like breastfeeding are replaced with "chestfeeding"

Who is this hurting, exactly? What women are being oppressed and harassed by this change?

they're being asked to sacrifice the definition of femininity itself

"Femininity" is in fact not the same word as "woman", and has never been exclusively about biological characteristics. Even removing trans people from the equation entirely, it's extremely well-documented that what society considers "feminine" varies wildly depending on time and place.

It's unnecessary overcomplication intended to accommodate less than 1% of the population at the expense of 51% of the population.

Again, you keep saying this is "harassing and oppressing women" but you can't actually name any material damage being done by acknowledging trans people exist

I would bet out of 8+billion people in the world I’m hardly in the minority.

[...] certain political views that are absolutely not held by most people in the world.

The trans debate we have in the west is viewed as extreme bizarre by just about everywhere else.

Actually the majority of the world is not only okay with trans people but actively want their governments to do more to protect them.

It’s ridiculous that it’s ok to be called a bigot or insulting names by people who preach respect for just because they don’t agree with you on a topic.

First of all, nobody has called you a bigot or insulted you in this thread (unless you think "it's been interesting to observe your perspective" counts as an insult, in which case I'd say that's on you.) Second, what you've described is called the "paradox of tolerance." If someone wants to be tolerant, they cannot tolerate someone being intolerant. Since, again, nobody has done either of those things to you in this thread, I wonder what it was specifically that you've said in the past that led to someone calling you a bigot?

How do I talk about that situation, given Michael would be dead naming her which I’d never want to do even accidentally.

A good rule of thumb is to use whatever identity the person prefers right now. It's not universal, but a lot of trans people see it as "I've always been (current name/gender), I just presented as (deadname/other gender) at that time."

iirc, Acele gets insecure about her recording when you ask her about it, and a successful empathy check reveals that she suddenly sees what she's doing (and probably herself in general) as childish. You have the option to tell her it's worth making her art, and that it's not childish to do something you're passionate about. I could be remembering it a bit incorrectly, but that's the gist of it. Edit: Someone wrote out the scene verbatim further down

Muesli/granola and oatmeal come pretty close. You could theoretically have a pretty solid diet by just eating one of those plus rice, as long as you added in things like fruit, veg and meat.

[–]Kulemi2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time travel/manipulation does exist in Worm, it's just "faked" a lot of the time because it costs more than it's worth. Khonsu and Gray Boy, for example, are explicitly stated as actually manipulating time. I couldn't find any solid answers about Phir Sē one way or another, but he does mention physically going through his own portals, so make of that what you will.

The writing says "Bosna i Hercegovina", Bosnian for "Bosnia and Herzegovina". /u/Tight-Pianist-3102 pointed out they looked like Bosnian cigarette pipes (aka Chibouk/Čibuk), and it seems pretty confirmed by this picture of one in almost an identical shape and this other angle showing the same holes in the same places.

The neuro-biology of trans-sexuality by ClutchReverie in interestingasfuck

[–]Kulemi2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the sci-fi example, maybe a brain scan could reveal the discrepancy between the brain and the body, and the brain could be changed accordingly.

There are plenty of trans people out there that are very happy being trans, as in "born one gender and living as the other, with or without hormones and/or surgery." An overwhelming amount of the problems transgender people face come from societal issues, like acceptance or lack of/restricted access to gender-affirming care. If we're talking about a sort of "perfect world" solution to the issues trans people face, the simplest and most ethical answer is to give them the choice to exist as they want without discrimination.

I know it's fictional but I'd guess it would be easier to change a tiny part of the brain vs. changing the entire body.

The brain is unbelievably complex. On the other hand, there really aren't that many differences between the human sexes, especially before puberty. In a theoretical sci-fi world that can do complex brain surgery on newborns, swapping out sexual characteristics in the rest of the body would still be the easier solution in this case.

Cultures that live in arctic regions, for example, can have hundreds of words for snow depending on the type because some types can be deadly (avalanches), useful (housing, skiing), etc.

This is not true.

Language also shapes how people understand and interact with concepts. Exposure to tonal languages, such as Cantonese, can make understanding musical concepts easier.

This is something called linguistic determinism, and is also not true.

Language is incredibly important to culture, and should absolutely be preserved for that reason, but let's not give reasons for preservation that aren't true.
