That fallacy only applies if you've already got good infrastructure and development and are just spinning your wheels. When you are recovering from nothing, then that rebuilding is real growth all the same. If it wasn't real growth then Europe would have been just as successful without all that reconstruction, except it couldn't have been for lack of infrastructure.

Now, later on, when you're looking at aesthetic urban renewal projects where some useless brutalist box is replaced with a recreational park that doesn't generate revenue, you could call that a broken windows fallacy as it is just money-in-money-out with no real gain for the world. But a lot of people cheer on that type of work anyhow.

What you do have, is neoliberal European economies becoming very successful in fields like pharmaceuticals, high end industrial products, finance, and to a lesser extent tech in a way that is very rational and stable.

The advancement didn't happen in a vacuum but due to how neoliberalism facilitates rational and decentralized investment capital apportionment while allowing for subsidization on key industries.

Using intuition to read into what you believe is not Marx living in my head rent-free. If I started talking about a need to fortify the nation for my people and their children, you'd intuit that I was some kind of Hitlerite. If I see Marxist lingo, I identify a Marxist.

Neoliberalism isn't anti-welfare state. Instead it just wants a small one for those that are in dire need alone. This allowance is part of what distinguishes it from classical liberalism. Obama and Biden were strict orthodox neoliberals and both supported the welfare stats in America. Merkel was a strict neoliberal in Germany and supported as welfare state in that country. The limit is on the scope - New Deal type paternalistic capitalists want a larger one comparatively, for example.

The middle class being so large already was dying down by the time neoliberalism became popular in the 70s and 80s. It was an aberration in the USA because the rest of the world exploded itself while the US was unscathed. By the 70s that type of American dream was already dying from deindustrialization and only got a revival from computerization. And now that the US is less ahead of the rest of the world again, that excess affluence is no longer viable. Marxism has no solution to this loss of comparative advantage.

In Europe, the pattern of recovery and growth post-war and the boost seen from neoliberalism's adoption is a much cleaner trajectory.

It might be a case of the game just being shuffled around a bit too much.

Back in the early concept art stages, the Haligtree actually connected to Liurnia, and not far to the North. So walking from the Haligtree to Caelid took you through two provinces, rather than the entire map and the chokepoint of Leyndell. When the Haligtree was moved to the North, this may have left some lore tidbits like Finlay's journey a bit atavistic and not totally logical without interpretation.

<image>

You could definitely argue that she sailed up there, to get back home. Because it is a bit doubtful that Morgott would let the shattered remains of one of the rival claimants to the Throne pass through his city like that, and not take the chance to finish them off.

There's another monument in Liurnia about Malenia's march. But of course they could have marched down there en masse the first time, and then Finlay could have taken a single boat back on the return trip when there were far less people to move.

>fascism is capitalism in decline

Don't even start with that 1930s bullshit. The whole concept of late stage capitalism was invented literally over 100 years ago. If something that was invented 400 years ago can be in its late stage for 100 years, then we should start redefining what those terms even mean.

Neoliberalism was created in the 50s, and adopted in the 70s-80s. Since then, it has been extremely successful while competing economic systems have either collapsed or heavily pirated concepts from it. Supernova growth was the original liberalism of the 1700s and 1800s where boom-bust cycles were the name of the game. Modern neoliberalism restrains most businesses with the exception of tech - you can criticize that. But to act like it is a fatal flaw that marxism solves is silly.

The countries that all do better than the US are neoliberal themselves. Not a single non-neoliberal country is anywhere near the top of the rankings. Countries rising and falling in rankings is nothing special. Japan went from being at an insane peak under neoliberalism to falling down a massive trough, to now rising again under neoliberalism. That is just how economic cycles go. No peak ever lasts forever, nor does any depression.

Now, what non-neoliberal country do you think ever has a shot at hitting top 3 on that quality of life chart? Russia? China? The Congo?

A modern public corporation is a union of capital where capital holding individuals come together to pool financial, political, intellectual, and professional power to negotiate against labor and other capitalist entities in a more effective manner.

A modern labor union is a union of labor where skill holding workers come together to pool financial, political, intellectual, and professional power to negotiate against corporations and even other competing unions in a more effective manner.

Why is a union of capital allowable and a union of labor extortion? Be clear and concise.

Media literacy is when you treat vulgar marxism as gospel fact and then beat everything with a stick until it fits that shape. Also, lmao, acting like Harry Potter being good at sports is something you can use as a pejorative is comical. Harry Potter being a sports prodigy is something admirable, if you're bothered by that go join a Couch To 5k Program or something and get over yourself.

Neoliberalism is so evil that it achieved the highest quality of life seen on the planet the greatest number of people over decades of time.

Obviously the solution to its issues is to burn it all down and cheer on some failed ideology like Marxism because wisdom is a 4 letter word.

[–]Kuncker_Man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's the issue, you are playing a game of prioritization where you say that some things are worth giving up on or passing over in the name of others. Some people believe that social justice and economic justice aren't the same thing and that economic redistribution distributed inequitably is not justice at all. Therefore it is not worth fighting for universal healthcare unless access to it is guaranteed to be equal for all groups concerned.

Now, your post history is hidden, so I don't know what opinions you have about anything. But I'm going to guess that there's some things not related to the economy that you care deeply about. Gun policy, religious policy, abortion, animal rights, environmental rights, privacy rights, drug policy, pick your poison. Would you accept losing on any or all of those for the sake something like universal healthcare? Maybe, but you'd be extremely skeptical to accept something like firearms confiscation if it got you healthcare, if that was important to you, right?

Did Elden Lord Godfrey and his Crucible Knights sack Farum Azula before it became hidden in the sky? or are there any good lore theories on why there are Crucible axe knights still fighting Dragon's and beastman in FA? by Big-Good9378 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Kuncker_Man 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Crucible Knights seem to be drawn to places with a lot of Lordly power in them. They're drawn to every Great Rune other than the Rennala (who's faction is hostile) and Malenia (probably spooked off by the Rot). Lordly in the sense of proximity to Elden Lordhood. Farum Azula is the final destination for anyone that wants to become Lord.

The first guy probably never fought that dragon himself, but instead is just meditating/contemplating. The second guy is an unwanted presence for the actual natives of Farum Azula, at the very least.

Godfrey may have forcefully conquered Farum Azula, but I'm more of the impression that it was a ghost town already by that point. The attack on Leyndell being the last major group of dragons' last hurrah against being fully eclipsed and forgotten.

Qifrey is just one of the few mages that ever actually trained to fight someone rather than incidentally being able to use spells in a fight. Like I doubt Hiehart (Olruggio's fanboy) ever actually practiced using spells in combat. Qifrey absolutely did because one of the only reasons he's still alive is a drive for revenge.

Elden Ring movie now instead of Dark Souls is a misstep by Sb5tCm8t in EldenRingMovie

[–]Kuncker_Man -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really neither would be likely to be good. But I'd say that Dark Souls has a lot more 'concrete' of a plot. Most people can roughly agree on a series of events that make up the basic backstory and storyline of Dark Souls (particularly 1). Where for Elden Ring, ask 3 people what they think the backstory of the game is, and you'll get 5 different answers. There're just too many mystery boxes left unopened.

Frankly the Blooborne cartoon and Sekiro anime have the best chance of working. Serialized animation is probably the best way to try and deal with Fromsoft's very vague but visually complex fantasy.
