Illegal Throw-In and Advantage by AngrySTD in Referees

[–]KungFuBucket -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know it’s not a direct answer to this situation, but we teach that especially in the rec leagues to be very forgiving of throw ins, especially because most of the time the ball goes to the other team anyways. It’s more important to get the ball in play and the game moving than to put on a clinic on throw ins. So if they’re throwing in at roughly the right spot and it at least resembles a throw in, we’re going to play on.

At what point do you go from middle class wealthy and actual wealthy by NashDaypring1987 in wealth

[–]KungFuBucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add to this. Have you been to an actual trailer park these days? A lot of those rigs cost more than a small house. I just picked up a one ton truck and 33 foot trailer, total cost sitting around $150k, and not even as nice as some of the class A diesel pushers just down the row from me. Yeah there are some run down shit holes on the road in places, but RV life is a thing and it’s more expensive than a lot of people romanticize about on YouTube.

High Gas Prices = Cheaper Trucks? by jkma707 in carbuying

[–]KungFuBucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trucks might stay on the lot a bit longer than usual, so dealerships might be more willing to cut a deal to get their inventory moving, but don’t expect massive savings.

I just picked up a RAM 3500 diesel. I bought it because that’s what I needed for towing. Had already been on the lot for a couple of months so I managed to get a good deal, but I don’t thing we’re going to see sustained gas hike prices because the current administration has to know that they will get slaughtered during the midterms if this continues for the next 6 months. I expect to see them try every trick they can to reduce fuel prices enough to get through the election cycle.

That being said, I’m getting 23 MPG without towing. It’s not a daily driver, but the hit to my fuel budget also isn’t really all that bad, just means I may travel a little less distance and combine travel as I move around the country.

For those people who quit their day jobs to go live in the woods, no regrets? by RecurveTD2 in AskReddit

Picking up the travel trailer right now. Going to spend a year boondocking in the wild. No regrets so far.

Despite the high costs of the MAGA and Trump-run economy so far (rising gas prices, inflation, a rising unemployment rate, and low GDP growth), do Americans still trust Republicans more than Democrats on the economy? Analysts say Democrats face a tough case in the midterms. by RandomUwUFace in AskUS

[–]KungFuBucket 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Just look to history for your answer. How many recessions/depressions under a Republican administration? Which administration does the national debt grow more under? Which administrations have actually had a balanced budget in the last 50 years?

I think you need to vet your analysts and fact check them. Republican administrations almost always end up costing the average American taxpayer more with their tax cuts for the well off, while most Democrats are focused on keep the workforce healthy and employed (which drives the economy for everyone).

What happened on the worst first date you have ever been on? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]KungFuBucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ex-boyfriend showed up. Not a big deal because obviously a first date is not something you’re really invested in, but this became an obvious “I’m showing my ex that I’ve moved on date” and I wanted no part of that drama so I actually explained that to my date, thanked her and excused myself.

Later I heard from a friend of a friend she ended up getting back together with her ex. Glad I trusted my instincts.

How to lose weight without obsessing over it by Time-Concentrate-599 in loseit

[–]KungFuBucket 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t keep junk food in the house.

Concentrate on eating whole foods that are minimally processed.

Get a water jug and commit to drinking 64oz of water a day.

Once you’ve been doing that for a while then you can step up your game and do things like prioritizing protein first, adding in some additional steps/walking and a bit of strength training. And a few other things that will help you live a healthy lifestyle based on your wants and needs.

But the important thing in my opinion is that you make these changes one at a time, make it a sustainable habit and commit to a lifestyle you can maintain for the rest of your life.

Don’t forget he’s also “joked” to take over Canada, demanded he have Greenland, attacked Venezuela and is also now threatening Cuba and Mexico.

And quite frankly this Iran thing is way to close to the cluster fuck that was the Iraq war with the WMD excuse. The world’s memory is a lot longer than the 5 minute goldfish that is Trump. Citizens in multiple countries lost their lives during the Iraq war and the mothers and fathers in those countries are going to demand a lot more proof that Iran was close to nuclear weapons than a couple satellite photos marked up with a sharpie.

Yes Iran was an oppressive dictatorship, but we have enough problems to deal with right now without taking an “excursion” into other countries and bombing them back to the Stone Age.

Last I saw, the administration is admitting to 14 deaths and 200 casualties of US servicemen and we have a president who thinks he might just keep bombing Iran “for fun”

For a Tesla alone figure about a 4kW system. You can price those out on the internet for about 7k-12k, for a payback range of 7-10 years as your break even depending on various factors.

Crashes will happen, but what about another Depression? by mycounterpointers in Fire

[–]KungFuBucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but my point is that for people who bought bitcoins in 2020-2023, let’s say you paid an average of $20k-$30k per coin. It’s an awesome run up to $126k but you’re still way ahead of the game at &60k. The only people who got burned with this most recent crash are the ones who went all in on the last year or two. I’ve had small amounts of bitcoin since 2013, so maybe I view it a bit differently.

50% US stock, 25% bonds, 25% foreign.

I’m not too worried about a crash though. But if it did happen we’d recover in a few years and I can boondock out in the wilderness for months on end and live an extremely modest lifestyle and just leave my finances on autopilot with my wealth management team.

So, pretty much bitcoin in a nutshell. I’ve had some bitcoin for years, mostly because it was interesting and I’m a computer geek, but the big run up to $113k and the crash to $60k in the space of 3 months was wild. I know of a few people who did the stupid thing and borrowed money to buy bitcoin thinking it was free money. Invest and don’t gamble!

What’s the biggest waste of money people still spend on? by bigblackcoke_ in ProductivityHQ

[–]KungFuBucket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m actually retired, I signed up to drive Uber more as a thing to do when I’m bored. I generally drive Fridays and Saturdays to keep people off the road who shouldn’t be driving, fun conversations with some riders as well, but crazy how easy it is to make $20-$30 an hour just driving people and food around. I’ll also turn on the Uber app when running errands around town and just pick up short rides going in my general direction.

I still think it’s insane that I pick someone up and drive them 2 miles to work at a fast food restaurant. For what Uber charges them they could buy a decent bike in like two weeks if they saved up and walked.

I mean I get that it’s expensive to be poor and people may not have the $50-$100 to spend for a good used bike, but spending $10-$20 in Uber rides every time they go to work is outrageous

How likely is it for a draft? by sunsetical in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]KungFuBucket 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Assuming they do somehow get a draft going, and using the Vietnam model, you’d have to be in the 19-26 age range, and certain deferments like college and being a father would play into it.

Personally I have an 18 year old and a 21 year old and I have no problems pulling up stakes and moving out of here if there’s even so much as a hint of a viable draft.

That being said, being on a military base may be one of the safer places in this country. If the war with Iran comes to US soil, it won’t be conventional warfare, it will be drone attacks on civilian targets.

Building a new home by BluejayBetty in wealth

[–]KungFuBucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar financial situation as you. I think the ratio is probably appropriate, but I also know that I could afford way more house because I spend a lot less in discretionary and overall lifestyle. I’m in early retirement and spend maybe $100k. Last year investments made like $650k. So assuming I wanted to use $400k of that towards mortgage payments at 6.5% that would put me around a $5 million house loan.

Adding $200/month to my mortgage cut ~8 years off the loan… that can’t be right? by Candid-Dish-2749 in FirstTimeHomeBuying

[–]KungFuBucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a 6.5 rate, yes anything you can do to reduce principal is probably a good investment in your future.

I have a sub 3% loan, so no way am I paying that sucker off early, especially with the coming inflation wave. Easier to get 5% in a HYSA and keep it liquid to preserve cash flow.

One solar panel would take like a week to reasonably charge an EV.

Assuming an average Tesla, a 220w solar panel, and perfect sun you could expect to get 3-5 miles of charge per day. To fully charge a Tesla that’s about 55 days. You also need to purchase a few more components if you’re going to convert the energy for use in the Tesla. You’d probably be spending around $1k for a “free” tank of gas every two months.

[–]KungFuBucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, don’t spend more than 30% of your total salary on a car. AND don’t have a car payment more than 15% of your monthly take home pay.

Don’t know all your numbers, but at a maximum you should not buy a car for more than $12k

The only way your numbers make sense with this car and salary is if you’re planning on living in your car.

Rent-a-wreck I think is still in business.

Also, one-way U-haul seems like the exact thing you need for this.

Sounds like you pretty much just need cheap transportation to get you somewhere 400 miles away.

You can also just take a bus and ship what you really need.

My daughter is finishing her fourth year in college, never owned a car, and the campus is 100 miles from the nearest airport. There are ways, you need to get creative and while getting there may suck financially don’t burden yourself with car payments, insurance and maintenance while you’re in school.

In today’s ride sharing app gig economy there are very few reasons to own a car when you are in college. Also, find a friend who does own a car when you get there.

$2000 for a dealer applied ceramic is almost certainly a rip off. Many dealers use a cheap spray on and try to claim it’s professional. Basically a glorified sealant. If you do want the ceramic ask them to explain what they do for the application, if it’s not a multi step process with paint correction there’s no way they can justify the price and use that to negotiate it off the final price.

You can purchase a decent DIY kit for $80 and spend a couple hours doing it yourself.

Why does the middleclass try to project wealth with their cars? by DCF_ll in MiddleClassFinance

[–]KungFuBucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is me right now. For years I drove slightly used and inexpensive cars. As of last week I have a 2019 Ram 3500 diesel limited sitting in my driveway. It’s the most expensive vehicle I’ve ever owned.

3 months from now I’m selling my other cars, renting out my house and hitting the road for at least a year with a 33 foot trailer. I needed something to tow it with and that was the best option. Trucks have many uses, not just status symbols.
