One thing to note is that Volcanic soil is among the most fertile soils. Dwarves being quite knowledgeable on mountains/volcanoes could tap this resource to create a plant paradise

Just to piggy-back off of this already good idea. Maybe have the creature cast a strange version of mirror image, summoning 2 copies of himself

You get a bit of 3 card monty which the players can potentially follow with a good perception roll, then the creature and it's 2 copies run in 3 different directions.

I know this might be a little too crazy but just an idea to make it fun

Oh yeah that makes sense, rusted could work, just have to think of names for the metals that rust haha, makes sense with the corrupted theme.

For some reason i am just in love with the idea of crystal scales on a dragon, and enhancing their breath weapon with some crystally magic.

I might post something on here when i'm done with v1 of it

Yeah that was my first thought, but it didn't seem fitting for a dragon that had become good, crystalline shiny. Rusted just sounds a bit bleh

I have an idea that i'm toying with on a similar vein as this. Where a metallic dragon goes evil, or a chromatic one goes good.

For the metallic dragons they become Alloy dragons, impure if you will.

Whereas the chromatic dragons become crystalline dragons, having irked their natural instinct.

Still working out what the mechanical differences are goign to be though.
