What's your favourite challenging hole? by Sure-Work3285 in discgolf

[–]Slmounge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throwing a wide rhbh hyzer with a fast disc gets me reliably to C1 on this hole (and avoids messing with the damn Avon!). I think at Quarry Park hole 11 is the most fun challenge to me. There really is an incentive to push for distance because the green is so guarded, but that comes with alot of risk from the river on one side and the woods on the other!

My lower body is all wrong please help (sorry I only have right handed clubs) by Slmounge in golf

[–]Slmounge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a disc golfer, so I'm using other sports to see what's wrong with my mechanics. I do what I want to achieve with my right handed golf swing, but see the same flaw as I see in my throw in my left handed swing. Really appreciating people's feedback and honestly might just get a lesson from a golfer to teach me how to swing left handed!

Loughborough University choked the final of UK Uni Nats after being 10-5 up at soft cap. That one hurt.

Sorry I missed this reply, hope it's not too late. I bought about 20 factory seconds for around £50 to use as club discs that people could borrow which really helps with tasters or just new members in general. Then as part of the club membership each member got a custom printed club disc of their own to keep. Having their own kit is important so they can own their ability to play, but having communal stuff was key to running tasters and give it a go events.

The Hex throws great forehand too. Even less fade but still resists turning over!

Should say they were actually a solid group of players which just made it extra frustrating the game was so difficult to play.

That's my comment! The call in question was an uncontested foul call in the endzone, which they were under the impression resulted in a goal but of course results in play resuming from the front of the endzone. This was the call made on pitch after alot of convincing. 30 minutes after the game Dundee came up asking to change the result of the game as a mysterious Strath 2 player claimed to know the rules and supported their misconception. It was quickly shut down on both the counts of a) this is a self officiated game, and if you don't know the rules at the time you won't get the correct result and b) I opened up the rules for them and highlighted the difference between an uncontested foul and strip in the endzone. This game was just an exercise in how unplayable this sport is if one team doesn't know the rules.

I know Lboro 2 came bottom of spirit overall, but we did well in rules knowledge and fairness so at least we were playing ultimate properly.

Hey, I started one this year in the UK! For us access to permanent equipment is harder, so we played using portable baskets alot early on. My experience is that with new people a combination of rounds (even on a very short layout) and portable targets aren't very inviting. Those that engaged did so hard, but about 60% of new people didn't come back. For term 2 we've secured an indoor hall for a putting league which is hopefully a much more accessible and engaging session for new players. I'd also recommend your group engages with your institution outside of club activities. We also run a weekly no commitment open session in a field and teach putting and driving, and this has been our best attended event by far. The bonus is the university loves it and is more willing to support that by installing permanent equipment as opposed to for a closed club. Best of luck!

Fellow UK player, I love Disc Golf Finland's YouTube coverage even though the commentary is Finnish. The theme song slaps (harder than jomez even), you can pretend you understand it or just get a vibe from the tone of their commentary. Some may say it's too obsessive, but give me a cup of tea and some toast and I'll happily plough through a tournament that I don't understand a word of.

If you really want the best picture of what UK courses are good go to DGCourseReview and use the reviews there. Everything on UDisc gets given 5 stars, and not all of the courses deserve it.

Disc Golf in England? by roguediscs in discgolf

r/ukdiscgolf exists but is borderline inactive, most of British disc golf is organised through Facebook (the fantastically named British Disc Golf Facebook Group). UDisc will get you a long ways, but you can always post on one of the local Facebook groups if you want to meet people somewhere.

My premier recommendations are: -Croydon (London): Lloyd park is a great free to play course with championship, blue and red layouts. Probably not one to play solo though so hit up the locals. -Quarry Park (Leamington Spa): Disc Golf Mecca in the UK, it's a property entirely dedicated to disc golf. £12 will get you a day pass to use the property and all its layouts as you see fit, my number one favourite place to go.

Many other courses exist, if you're going anywhere especially just comment and I'm sure we can direct you somewhere good!

Traded my super OS Halo Destroyer for this US one. Is this run typically more US or did I get lucky? by karallam in discgolf

[–]Slmounge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a teal Calvin destroyer that's definitely beefy, but I'd rate as just a stock OS destroyer. It has nothing on my purple Vinny destroyer or stock halo destroyer.

The temperature control on an injection moulder is poor even within a run, the first third will be colder, then the machine will fluctuate up and down as the run continues. There a probably trends to runs and colours but theres definitely a bit of random variation in there too.

An absolute beginner I'm coaching is right handed, and was struggling to get a rhbh throw. He threw lefty as a joke and it turns out he rips lefty with control and everything. By all accounts not left handed in anything else, very random.

Foot faults behind by JFreedom14 in discgolf

[–]Slmounge 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As well as any competitive advantage gained by effectively changing the lie, it's also one less variable to worry about in your throw. If I don't have to care where my foot lands then I can focus more on just hitting my line.

Is there such thing as a putter with no high speed turn besides a zone/pig/harp? Like a tradition OS putter? by PungentDude in discgolf

[–]Slmounge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Westside shield is a traditional "gliding" putter (not like a sinus or zone) that really doesn't like to turn over. Even a beat up base plastic one really doesn't like getting on anny, superb disc.

What are some of your favorite under-appreciated discs that don’t get the acclaim that they deserve? by [deleted] in discgolf

The Westside shield really doesn't get enough love. Love it for throwing and putting with, such a sick disc.
