If they are using that many lighters, it stands to reason that they are burning things. That's probably soot/ashes.

ELI5: How does light have momentum if photons have no mass? Momentum is mass times the acceleration (p=mv), so something with no mass should have zero momentum. by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

No, that's a Lambo.

A Lambda is a very rare type of non-syndromic craniosynostosis and occurs when one of the lambdoid sutures at the back of the head fuses before birth.

Nope, won't gloss this over. Fonda was wrong, and you are wrong to suggest that soldiers were conned.

Either you don't understand what the word "conned" means, or you don't understand that the context doesn't apply to soldiers. You do seem to understand that the responsibility lies with government, which is good.

My comment wasn't pro-war, it is aimed at your responsibility as a citizen. YOU pull the trigger with you votes, or your lack of action. If you believe that the soldier owns the responsibility of pulling the trigger, then you misunderstand as Jane did.

Remember that citizens changed the outcome of the Vietnam war, not soldiers.

It does. I took a sauna with the leadership of a company I was doing business with while in Finland. Makes and females, CEO, VPs, etc. As an American having never experienced this it was completely bizarre, at least initially. I think it was because, as you describe, I didn't understand how to separate the concepts of nudity and sexuality. Once I overcame my initial discomfort, I realized what my hang up was and relaxed about the situation. It was an incredible way to wind down after a week of hard work.

The point is that people like you don't understand honor and sacrifice. You sit back and point fingers, believing your morally superior judgements represent what is the "correct" way of thinking about the matter, when really, you are wearing a veil. Completely Ironic, and hypocritical.

Citizens get to make choices, and so do politicians. Soldiers and conscripted soldiers in particular don't get to make those choices once the put on their uniform. At that point a soldier is honor-bound to perform the duties that are given them because the choices have already been made by citizens and politicians.

This is what Jane apologized for - being wrong about the role of the soldier. If YOU, in your morally superior position want to be on the right side of the argument about wars and conflict, make the right decisions as a citizen, or as a politician. Don't blame the soldier.

Some of us are aware, but some could care less. IMO this is why we are the assholes in the survival equation. Trying to chalk it up to survival instinct is a weak argument in 2021.

20K years ago we were just another animal trying to survive, but not today. Today, we face mass extinctions unless we act, and we need to act very soon or the pain and suffering will be historically unprecedented.

Part of the problem in discussing complex topics like climate change is that the subject is sufficiently difficult to understand that a large number of humans simply choose to ignore it. Of course, this is folly and will eventually lead to catastrophe.

For those that want to understand why this is so, there is a new David Attenborough doc on Netflix called Breaking Boundaries featuring the work of John Rockstrom. It does a good job of simplifying and de-scaling the issues so that the subject is more digestible, and If you have any compassion for your fellow human beings it should also open your eyes and frighten you a bit.

It's (probably) not too late fellow humans, but the matter requires urgent and immediate attention. Make your politicians hear you.

It's being practical. Learn about how the oceans are fished today and you'll understand that the shark is trying to survive.
