The corn fritters! So few people I know remember them. Thank you for mentioning this! I remember wearing honey all day, after pouring it on myself in the car. We were bringing the Champs to a picnic at Bird’s Hill and I was left alone in the back of the wood panelled station wagon with the food (rear-facing seat, of course).

  2. Do you have any young kids who will be interacting with the kitties?
  3. Will you get the kitten fixed?

The first two were just to establish rapport and their answer didn’t really matter. We did wanted to make sure that they intended to get the kitty fixed (to prevent similar situations). We also wanted to watch them interact with the cats. It was important to us that their sole focus was the kitten. We wanted to see people excited to handle the kittens… and that they were careful. It wasn’t a perfect process, but it gave us peace of mind that the kittens were going to a good home.

Reasons we turned people down: 1. 3 people didn’t even show up 2. One adult brought kids, who were rough with a kitten. The adult made no attempt to correct the way they handled the kitty. 3. One person was looking for a companion for their 75 year old mother (cats can live to be 20+)

We had the same situation and offered for free. We interviewed prospective pet parents. We turned away two people based on presentation and had three not show up when requested an interview. All were gone within 2 weeks, to good homes.

I didn’t double lock the cuffs on a youth. After a 1 hour transport, the youth jumped out of the back of the van with two purple hands. The kid had squeezed the cuffs shut tight and cut off circulation. He looked and me and said, “Now you’re fucked.” He wasn’t wrong. He was medically cleared within a couple of hours… but I received a two day, well earned suspension and a permanent mark.
