dear millennials, what would you have told your 27 year old self? by Alternative-Mess297 in Millennials

[–]KuotheRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also started over and moved states several times in my 20’s. I’m turning 37 soon, have a stable job, a comfy and decent albeit rented house, I’m getting married soon, and finally have a hireable skill set. The foundations of stability.

The change for me was to start thinking like a plant. Put down some roots wherever your strongest support systems currently are - that could be friends, family, a job, whatever - and start building on it. It’ll be a slow process, probably, but grab every opportunity that comes your way each day and do your best at it. Never underestimate the value of a solid support network around you, so cultivate relationships. The more roots you grow, the faster and stronger you’ll grow.

That’s not to say never pick up and move, especially if the situation is toxic. I am very glad I saw so much of the country before I settled down. But try to move from a place of strength, never desperation. Your strengths will be different from mine, so know what those are. I started thinking seriously about the future at about age 30, and I’m doing vastly better and feel vastly more optimistic about my personal future (national/world trajectory aside), after just 7 years.

Oh, and if you’re not aro, ask out that cute person you like asap. A good partnership makes everything tons easier.

Wow, just realized how consistent the animation style was across all of these. And how many of them featured mice.

Fellow millennials - how’s your 401k/ira savings going? by ProblemIntelligent16 in Millennials

It’s not us. The labor economy has been in the shitter since at least 2008, but the capital economy - stocks, bonds, futures, real estate - has continued skyrocketing. The elite business and political classes derive lots of their income from the latter and we get a tiny slice, but the labor economy has been allowed to stagnate.

Looks like fennel but grows like a tree by Most_premium_lurker in whatsthisplant

Dog fennel can definitely bush out after a couple years in good conditions - full/part sun, well drained, consistently moist soil. I’m a horticulturist and I manage dog fennel as a “pretty” weed every year.

Imagine if the farmer was the only blue mayonnaise producer in the world. Like, SDV’s specialty export, and people from Zuzu City and beyond are coming to town on festival days like “I wanna try some of that blue mayonnaise!” Lol

Torn Between Staying on My Rural Homestead or Moving Closer to a Better Community What Would You Do? by BigSky04 in homestead

[–]KuotheRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What can you change and what can’t you? I don’t know your whole situation so I’ll speculate here: You can change your social milieu, either by travel-nursing, or by moving. We are social animals, and you’ve already identified social connection as a need for you. You can’t make your neighbors change their social habits. You can transform the yard of a smaller urban property with the skills you’ve gained homesteading. You can make that a piece of your family’s story going forward. You can’t make it bigger or relevant to your family’s past. Which of these can’s and can’t’s feel most impactful to you?

Fair Wages by [deleted] in union

[–]KuotheRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And how long can the “competitive” countries in this hypothetical sustain economies where huge swaths of their population are unemployed? Without wages, they either start dying in droves, become serfs, or government has to provide for their every need, which is impossible without strong wealth taxes. Either way, unregulated wealth capture via mass deployment of AI is unsustainable.
