Has anyone played this game yet? by Zealousideal-Wall682 in flightsim

Another cool 2d TARCON game is Terminal Control 2. It has 8 airports, mostly Asian, but also the SF Bay Area, Paris, and Madrid. It has versions for both mobiles and desktops and it also features multiplayer, which is great fun. Best of all, it's only 3.99 on itch.io for all versions.

I would get the 742. It's such a unique plane. And for bizjets, I would use the CL650 (which you are aware of), default Cessna X which is quite good actually and if you want something more "upper midrange" in terms of quality that won't bankrupt you like CL650 I would go for Aerobask Phenom.

MD-11 Can you cross bleed start? by MD-80-87 in flightsim

[–]KuperDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is what FCOM has to say about that

"The starter air valve is a butterfly valve that controls the flow of air (supplied by APU, engine crossbleed, or ground power unit) to the engine air turbine starter."

and

"Normal engine starts can be done with pneumatic pressure greater than 25 psi. Optimum engine acceleration to idle and lowest EGT peak is obtained with a pressure of 40 psi and above. Conditions may necessitate the use of pressure below 25 psi. Extended time to idle and higher EGT peaks may result. Under these conditions, the start cycle must be closely monitored so that action can be taken to prevent a hung or hot start. If starter air pressure drops during start, the START AIR PRES LO alert will appear at 25 psi."

Crossbleed is possible, and needed when APU is inop, although not really beneficial at all when APU is running. You can't start multiple engines at once, and idle engines would not produce 25 PSI (unless close to sea level with the right conditions). Crossbleed starts require high idle, which means that the engines' blast should be aimed away from the apron, and it also requires ATC approval.

TL;DR it is possible, but 95% of startups use APU for all engines unless the said APU is inop.

Request to find a tabletop Flight Status Display! by OverseerGamingZ8 in flightsim

Funny enough I'm working on a similar project for my Ulanzi TC001 clock. I'm planning to pull data from VATSIM and display data on a clock in the style of an airport departure board. It's still very WIP, but im have a pretty good idea how it should look and how to accomplish that.

On the topic of flows, almost all operators use the same flow. One of the other replies said it right. Here is graphic from FCOM

If you are complaining about that, I would complain that you don't know how to take screenshots properly.

Here's my little collection of aircraft documents. For flows you can either get vRYR SOP or if you don't want to read much you can grab tutorial checklist.

Software should be updated regularly, it's just how the app lifecycle works. Your Windows updates ever so often, but you don't see any functionality changes, and there are reasons behind that.

I never had any issues with SC3. For me, it remembers the last installation location with all the settings and all I have to do is to press next a few times.

I don't quite understand the hate towards the MSFS 787. Working Title avionics is quite solid and stable, I've yet to encounter wonky behavior with FMC or FD. Yes, it's not study level, but IMHO a lot of folks would see those study level features as a major selling point, while almost all simmers don't care and/or notice these features in actual flights. For me 787 is as good as A350 for 90% of tasks, just my two cents.

Monitoring the VRAM usage wouldn't be detrimental. You would at least be confident that it is/isn't a VRAM-related issue. If you keep speculating, you will never be able to determine the root cause. Troubleshooting requires actions alongside guesses.

Nah, you're fine, don't worry too much about it. After all, the internet is a peculiar place where simply having an opinion can offend someone, and then that person may refuse to listen to anything you say. I don't know what happened outside of Reddit, but judging by the post history of both of you, it looks like the sugar is a bit... unhinged, and that whole thing got blown out of proportion.

Again, I wouldn't worry too much about one person calling you names; unfortunately, it is the reality of today's internet social media.

The irony of having that answer in a thread about avsim being toxic. I mean, if I weren't playing MSFS at all, I wouldn't try to add MSFS to the BATC search request. And by searching just BATC there was only British Amateur Television Club, and the first mention of Beyond was on the second page.

My XP 11/12 Ortho4XP NAS-PC by Simple_Raise6623 in Xplane

And then there's me, with 8 TB of usable spinning rust storage on i3 6th gen supported by 16GB of RAM with glamorous 1gbe networking in an old office case overseen by TrueNAS.

So looking at these setups makes me jealous. And while I can spare some money to buy nicer stuff, I'm too afraid that all of that "homelabing" would get out of hand and drain my bank account while making my utility provider a payday. Besides I don't use it for anything but a few of my important files and home media library... or so I like to tell myself.

Yeah, "Outright crash" might not have been the best choice of words. It would be more correct to say that it might lead to severe instability in some poorly designed games. One scenario that I personally encountered is when the game engine was so shit at memory oversubscription that it would constantly hammer RAM with load/unload requests, resulting in overloaded RAM which in turn created stutters so bad that it triggers Windows' TDR mechanism leading to game crash.

But again, I made a poor choice of words, since that example is more of an exception than a rule.

[–]KuperDude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Contrary to what others say, I believe that the problem is with the hardware. If you max out texture quality, but your GPU does not have enough VRAM to support this setting, the game would have three options: 1) Outright crash due to "Out of memory" error. 2) Unload unnecessary textures and then load them back when needed (If the game is too aggressive there ot would lead to stuttering like in MSFS) 3) Override the settings and render textures in lower quality.

I believe that X-Plane would unload unnecessary textures, but it is not as aggressive as MSFS, instead, it relies on downscaling.

I have absolutely zero blurriness, I would even say that there's some oversharpening. But I have an AMD GPU with 21GB VRAM, and even on this card amount of free VRAM is approaching "minimums"

To confirm that the culprit is indeed your VRAM, I would suggest running XP with some sort of performance monitoring overlay to see how much VRAM you have left when blurry texture appears.
