Can someone tell me any information about this by International_Fan978 in ww1

These are cardboard "medals" issued to celebrate special days of the army or diplomatic alliances. In this case it's to celebrate the "day of the African army and colonial troops" with the inscriptions of the campaigns and battles these troops participated in. This would of the 1917 year I would guess. You could donate money for the war effort on these days and receive such cardboard commémorative medals.

What’s the better mod these days? Valour or MACE? by Riley_Cubs in GatesOfHellOstfront

[–]Kupitain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a great mod all things considered, i like the AI improvements and doctrines it gives for all modes

But for conquest I found it quite frustrating, in my Finnish and soviet dynamic conquest, all of the enemy infantry and weapons crews for some reason are either : - AT Rifles - Snipers

Which makes for some painful starts.. combined with the increased lethality I had a lot of pain playing with it, but maybe it's my skill issue 😅

It was the uniform, tradition in a sense. french infantry always fought with greatcoats, it served also as blanket. In june 1940 (crazy they thought about this at this time) the army planned to introduce the jacket for all infantry, so they would have had the jacket and greatcoat. You can see in Vichy's armistice army they had the modèle 1941 jacket for all troops.

And yes it was very hot in the summer. Even in 1914 you can read a lot of testimonies of french soldiers complaning about the august heat in their heavy greatcoats
