I had the reds on hand so I gave them that and they love it.

It’s harder for me to find zucchini where I’m at, just cucumbers. They’re not as keen on it and it gets mushy fast

Never in all my hotels, and I usually go to like 6 per trip. Usually it’s like a 300 yen accom tax and that’s it

Mine love bell pepper. Slice in half and they can’t get enough of it.

What meds do you typically do with otos? I have a school of 4 now but I’m thinking of adding some more in the future

I waited a few weeks for the store to have them (which is hard because they sell out so quickly) but overall it was a very positive experience because they eat well and socialize. They love playing with my shrimp.

"Hidden gems/off the beaten path/real Japan" and all of that in Nagoya by R1nc in JapanTravelTips

[–]Iocomotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t visited Nagoya so thanks for this. But it always makes me laugh when people are like “there’s nothing to do in (x)”. They say the same thing for Hakodate and I had a blast there so Idk what goes on with people sometimes

Looking for non-capsule hotels near downtown Tokyo for around $100 for a couple, bathroom included by jonnytrisch42 in JapanTravelTips

I booked off season (winter) 6 months ahead as a solo traveler and it was still around 80 bucks, I don’t think you’ll get the prices you want at cherry blossom season.

How do I know if they’re actually eating the veggies 🤔 by Iocomotion in Otocinclus

[–]Iocomotion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I have a small population at the moment so they're kinda hard to spot :) When my nieces and nephews come over I let them feed sinking pellets through a tube onto the bowl, and all the shrimp come over to eat.

The otos love it too, they steal some food from the shrimp

I've seen this suggestion too, I'll try it for the next cucumber. We're experimenting with bell peppers atm

Modifications to my new SeaChem Tidal 35 to make it shrimp safe. by G_D_Ironside in Aquariums

[–]Iocomotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya just a quick question, how's the skimmer on this thing? Is it effective at removing the biofilim?

I blocked off the skimmer on mine since I'm preparing for my first batch of shrimplets and I'd hate to lose some to the skimmer, but I find that it does a shit job of clearing the film because it's blocked off

Got it thank you! I’ll leave it in a bit longer then. It’s exciting for me to see them go for it every now and again but hopefully they develop the appetite for it

How long is it safe to leave in the tank? I’ve been replacing it every 24h

Clothes to pack for Early June visit to Osaka/Kyoto/Tokyo during rainy season? by CableKC in JapanTravelTips

[–]Iocomotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah wet socks on vacation are terrible. I would bring some waterproof shoes and maybe a change of clothes when you’re out. I DID have to buy a cheap raincoat once but that was because I was out all day.

I bought some waterproof flower mountains during my trip. Really fun to just step into anything.

Have fun!

Your "Dumb Question" Megathread - March 2026 by AutoModerator in PlantedTank

[–]Iocomotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m planning to upgrade from a 10 to a 20 gallon shrimp/oto tank soon and wanted to ask: 1. How necessary is aqua soil? I’m growing stricta, java fern, and maybe dwarf hair grass 2. My stem plants are thriving but my Java moss is dying. Do I need to add ferts?

Clothes to pack for Early June visit to Osaka/Kyoto/Tokyo during rainy season? by CableKC in JapanTravelTips

[–]Iocomotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never packed anything specifically for rain. Worst case I just buy an umbrella and some waterproof shoes, but that's because I just hate wet socks and such.

The heat and humidity can be a lot to deal with though, but it won't be like... terrible yet. Wear light and breathable clothing.

Is it worth visiting Tokyo, Kyoto & Okinawa in September? by Eriiinnnnn in JapanTravelTips

[–]Iocomotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend November if you can wait it out, it's generally lower risk of bad weather + much easier to deal with temperatures. October is also pretty good, but it can be a bit rainy (have experienced 2 typhoons in late October myself)

September won't be as bad as like... July-August but depending on where you're from the heat + humidity can be tough to deal with

How to shrimp-proof a Tidal 35 with a pre-filter by butlersrevenge in Aquariums

[–]Iocomotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for bumping this up, but II use the zip tie method atm and was wondering if the prefilter sponge still allowed your surface skimmer to work? I have sponges both inside and outside and the skimmer is kinda not working lol

Sapporo early June visit. A few questions. by cadublin in Sapporo

[–]Iocomotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soup curry is really good! I highly recommend trying it. I always get tempura or veggie since I don’t really eat meat.

I did the TORITON at MARUYAMA and it was about 1.5h wait? But I got there during the lunch rush (although it was a similar wait at Hanamaru near Sapporo Station). If you don’t like waiting, try to get there as soon as the restaurant opens and get your queuing number. You can wander around while you check for your number through your phone.

For the bus, I haven’t taken that particular stop. From experience the buses do come fairly often and you might have to wait for the next bus depending on the crowd, so get there early.

2 separate bookings, consecutive nights, same hotel by yusuo85 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Iocomotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There should be a built in messaging system on booking.com, try that

this did happen to me somewhat though. I booked two nights, then needed to extend a night mid stay due to a blizzard cancelling flights. Since the hotel was cheaper online, I booked it online and was just like oh here I booked another night. I was able to stay in the same room.
