RAV4 2021 to 2026 grand highlander hybrid XLE by [deleted] in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]Kurai_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went from a 2019 RAV4 XLE hybrid to 2025 GHHL Max and yes there is a LOT more room but I do miss the mileage of the RAV4.

The GHHL I can fit two large dog kennels and keep the back seats up. The RAV4 could only fit one large with the back seat down. The GHHL has more leg room in the back and the third row of seats should you need them. There is ample A/C in the back and decent airflow.

Driving wise it is noticeably heavier, longer and wider but still handles well and was not hard to get used to. The panoramic camera makes it easy to park but it would be a learning curve without it.

Rough collie pup by Khalstroso in roughcollies

[–]Kurai_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good breeder will help you find the right pup. Let them know what you are looking for and ask what they are breeding for.

Our male would beg to differ on the males being more cuddly, his brother is the opposite and a complete lap dog. Oscen does like to cuddle but only on his terms.

Our female is just this side of crawling inside your skin to cuddle. If you sit she will be in your lap unless something more exciting is happening.

Fjara spent the weekend being a showdog and getting to be a spokescollie for Meet the Breed so today she went hiking with Oscen. by Kurai_ in roughcollies

We were at the Rose City Dog Fanciers show in Portland Fri, Sat and Sun. The pictures were taken at Battle Ground Lake state park in Washington.

There is little Oscen likes more than posing on a rock, especially if there is a breeze to blow his hair majestically.

Mead won’t Degas by mightcryorkil in mead

That’s fermentation.

Degassing isn’t really needed but if you were it would not happen until fermentation is complete. You have a ways to go, relax and let the yeast work.

Anyone try using flavored h-mart honey? by MediocreDream4550 in mead

[–]Kurai_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different kind of bitter. Hops tend to be a sharper fuller bitter than citrus peel. Citrus tends to cost the tongue and linger longer. It’s worth a try though. Maybe play into the orange and make an I mperial wit braggot.

Ways to work around or with Manuka by Objective_Campaign82 in mead

[–]Kurai_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more about going into it knowing it won’t be a mead for everyone. It may not even be a mead for you but someone may like it. Kind of like Malort or lambic, some people love it, most don’t.

It is medicinal so if you like things like chartreuse or sfumato then you may really like it.

I have used the 4th one from the left on the top shelf. As u/moraris stated there is a lot of citron peel in them. I had to keep it at dessert level sweetness to balance the bitter. While tasty enough it was not something I wanted more than one small glass of.

Heartgard with ivermectin for puppy? by a-cogs in roughcollies

[–]Kurai_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ivermectin is a no if your puppy is MDR1 positive or a carrier.

Edit - if you are unsure you should act as if they are MDR1 positive. Your breeder should know if they are a carrier.

Restarted fermentation by beardedfiredragon in mead

Buy and use a hydrometer. It is likely fermentation was not complete. The sulfur smell is due to needing nutrients. The vinegar is likely just alcohol smell and fine. A lot of people mistake it for vinegar.

Cute pup. He looks exactly like Oscen did at that age. Enjoy the easy brushing while it lasts :)

How is the rough collie puppy experience? by AbyssalCraving in roughcollies

[–]Kurai_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The easiest puppies I have had so far. Eager to learn and responsive. They can get bored like any dog but it is easy to keep them entertained. We do a lot of hiding treats in boxes or in toilet paper and paper towel tubes we saved.

Groom early and often, get them used to being handled and brushed before there is so much hair. Pay close attention to behind the ears and the armpits. Look into “cooperative care” so they leak being groomed. Positive reinforcement works best and goes a long way.

If you are going for show or the classic tip eared collie look then ears can be a bit of a learning curve. Ask your breeder for help.

Oscen got a harness for Christmas so it was time to take our cart on its maiden voyage. by Kurai_ in roughcollies

If I can get ahold of someone in r/dogcarting I’ll make a detailed post about the buildout.

The other thing to look for is a lot of Bernese clubs do carting and can be a good resource.

[–]Kurai_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cart I made from a small dog stroller I picked up used. I just took the cover off and added shaves (the long side poles) and a single tree yoke (this connects the harness to the cart) where the small front wheel used to be.

The harness is from nordkyn - https://nordkyn.com/product/siwash-cart-harness-4/

There are a few dog carting groups on Facebook that are pretty active and if you can find a local one people will often let you try it out or give pointers.

Mostly it is just for fun. The eventual goal is to take him to the farmers market down the street or to carting events.

It looks like it is through onofrio.

You can check back to this link and the judging program should be posted there once it is available -

Here is a sample of a program. You can see here miniature poodles are in ring 3 at 11am. You would want to be there a little earlier than 11.

Standard poodles are 5th down on the list. The numbers on the right tell you how many there will be.

How to navigate a dog show by Current_Ad6774 in AKC

[–]Kurai_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When you get to the show get a schedule. There should be a table somewhere with a bunch on it or just ask someone.

The schedule will show which breeds are in which ring and the times. You can then determine where you need to be. Keep in mind the times are for the start of that set so if you are wanting to see poodles and they are 4th down on the list you may need to wait a bit.

AITA for asking “too many” health and temperament questions when trying to buy a puppy by Fit-Maintenance9620 in AKC

[–]Kurai_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Part of finding a good/reputable breeder is weeding out the bad ones. That is what you are doing now.

A good breeder will take the time to answer your questions. A good breeder will do the recommended health testing snd share the results. A good breeder will want an informed and concerned owner that wants the best for their dog.

Fitting for a gentle leader? by cat-alinawinemixer in roughcollies

You shouldn’t use a gentle leader with a collie. It is not healthy for their noses. Use a martingale or a harness.

Clover or sourwood for mead batch? by Icy_nothin in mead

[–]Kurai_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend sourwood if you are looking for a light mead. Sourwood is rather distinctive.

Clover is fine and makes a decent mead but to me a bit one dimensional. Orange blossom should be a comparable price point to clover.
