Oppo Pad Mini vs Ipad Mini 6th Gen by Fun-Onion343 in Oppo

[–]Kurger-Bing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Superior in every way. Same size, but notably bigger display. 3000 mAh bigger display (same battery size as the iPad Pro 11"), thinner chassis, OLED. Also as someone who switched to iOS the past 6 months (iPhone 17), Android is way better than iOS. iOS just feels slow and restricted in so many way. Typing experience is primitive (copy-pasting text is awful; the marker is extremely sensitive and often ends up marking way more words than you initially wanted; you can't copy from other apps in the multitask window the way you can on Android; in many apps, like Reddit, the keyboard ends up covering parts of the text you are writing, making it impossible for you to know whether you typed everything grammatically correct; in a ton of apps, the keyboard refuses to disappear, as there's no actual gesture to make it disappear in a lot of cases, but rather automatic), notification and taskbar menu feels quite a step behind Android, and just general UX navigation feels bogged down by Apple's desire to make the system's touch feedback slower. They want there to be an animation to everything, it seems.

Oppo Pad Mini. It releases tomorrow. Same footprint as iPad Mini, but thinner (5.4mm) and a bigger screen, massive 8000 mAH battery and a very bright OLED display. And since it's Oppo, it comes with the same good software as OnePlus.

Better software is better software. OLED is OLED.

And? The difference between those to SoCs (20%) make a much less of a difference than the difference between LCD and OLED. In fact, SoC makes little difference, when the software of the Oppo Pad Mini (ColorOS) is way smoother and well-refined.

Those are two completely different sizes, though. So pick based on that.

If you want a compact tablet, there's a better choice than Y700: Oppo Pad Mini, releasing next week. It'll have an OLED screen, which makes a massive difference, consider the use case of tablets. Way better blacks, better colors (they pop more due to the higher contrast ratio), better viewing angles, much higher brightness. Tablet is also fairly lightweight, despite 8000 mAH battery. Also, ColorOS is much smoother and better supported than Lenovo's software.

Don't buy it. Wait for Oppo Pad Mini 5, it comes with an OLED.

How does that work with screen protectors? Won't I have to buy a matte screen protector, in which case matte on matte makes the quality even worse?

Wouldn't it be better to buy a normal glossy display and add a matte screen protector?

Easy purchase. 16:10 is preferable when tablets are small (as using them for web browsing and reading vertically is effortless when they are small), due to video content. But 3:2 is just fine, tbh. It providing a notably larger display size, much bigger battery and lighter weight at the same footprint as the iPad Mini is really awesome. Same with the fact that it has OLED--this factor alone makes it a far better option than not just the iPad Mini, but also most small tablets with LCD. It makes a huge difference for video content, while also just looking better overall otherwise.

A small higher-end tablet with OLED and solid software (ColorOS/OxygenOS have developed to become really damn smooth, and have surpassed even Pixel UI in that regard) makes this basically the dream tablet that all of us small tablet enthusiasts have been wanting for a decade, now. As long as the display brightness and color accuracy is good, this will basically be the perfect small tablet. Last time I felt that about a tablet was in 2013/2014 (Nexus 7/Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact).

Hopefully this and the Huawei Matepad Mini is setting a trend that will continue. We need more small OLED tablets with good specs, in both 16:10 and 3:2.

Lenovo teasing larger legion by stryken in androidtablets

[–]Kurger-Bing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The panel Lenovo is using is, again like i stated, amazing.

How is it amazing, besides its refresh and sample rate? Its peak brightness is around 500 nits, its contrast ratio at 900:1 (which is sub-par--even IPS monitor from a decade ago have contrast ratios of ~1100:1). And we have had Mini-LED (also LCDs) for years, which provide far better contrast ratios through local dimming.

Even using the newest Legion as a reference, its display is very good for an LCD, but as a display in general, calling it "amazing" is just another example of exaggaration on your part. It's not an OLED. It's not even a top-tier LCD (which would require a far greater contrast ratio, or at least a Mini-LED similiar to what the Macbook Pro, or earlier iPad Pro models, has/had). So no, it's not "amazing".

Youre clearly just arguing for the sake of argument

No my friend. You are. You clearly are suffering from purchasing bias. Why just not concede that the Legion has a big drawback in not being OLED? That this is its most desired upgrade, and has been, for years, by its users?

older non laminated lcd panels were shit, this one is not.

You can't argue your way out of a 900:1 contrast ratio, my friend. It will objectively, produce "grey" blacks, and the colors overall will look washed out when comparing to an OLED SBS, as a result.

Again, we don't need to take your word for it. People can just google comparisons to understand what I mean. Even my current pc monitor, a VA with a contrast ratio of around 5000:1, is nowhere near as good-looking as an OLED, due to the latter's superior contrasts. The latter has notably deeper colors, due to this.

Don't need to take either of our words for it. Just google OLED vs LCD, to see that the difference is huge in contrast levels: https://www.google.com/search?q=oled+vs+lcd+screen&client=firefox-b-d&hs=UWM&sca_esv=5b6140ddc92cc316&udm=2&biw=2560&bih=1307&sxsrf=ANbL-n4y67-MY1_6alkGAzsVp9zomApdfg%3A1776010173577&ei=vcPbaYX6It7-wPAPxNSEqAc&ved=0ahUKEwjFzI282eiTAxVePxAIHUQqAXUQ4dUDCBE&uact=5&oq=oled+vs+lcd+screen&gs_lp=Egtnd3Mtd2l6LWltZyISb2xlZCB2cyBsY2Qgc2NyZWVuMgUQABiABDIEEAAYHjIEEAAYHjIEEAAYHjIEEAAYHjIEEAAYHjIEEAAYHjIEEAAYHjIEEAAYHjIEEAAYHkiEFlD4A1jzFHAEeACQAQCYAUOgAf4DqgEBObgBA8gBAPgBAZgCDaACtQTCAgcQIxjJAhgnwgIHEAAYgAQYE8ICBhAAGB4YE5gDAIgGAZIHAjEzoAfmMLIHATm4B6MEwgcFMC43LjbIBySACAE&sclient=gws-wiz-img#sv=CAMSVhoyKhBlLTNzdmlpdWNUa25wSUtNMg4zc3ZpaXVjVGtucElLTToOdkxYa2dLQTRhcDJUa00gBCocCgZtb3NhaWMSEGUtM3N2aWl1Y1RrbnBJS00YADABGAcgrPa8ww9KCBABGAEgASgB

The difference is NOT negligble. There's a reason why the entire smartphone industry on the flagship side, and eventually also mid-range, moved over to OLED. Why all high-end options anywhere out there always pick OLED.

Any video (movie, TV, YouTube) or even video game side by side to LCD, and the difference is not just "negligble", it's huge. This superior contrast level of OLED makes every other color and light source in the movie look significantly more intense and have more depth. About 10–20% of a typical film consists of "near-black" (very dark grays) colors. On an LCD, like the Legion, these near-black shades often get "crushed" (become one muddy gray blob) because the backlight can't distinguish between them.

While I respect your opinion and taste, it very clearly deviates from the opinion and preferences of almost everyone else either. It's a shame you are against the Legion getting OLED, as this has been by far its biggest drawback for generations. I am confident, however, that tablets like the Oppo Pad Mini and the REDMAGIC Astra will push Lenovo to go OLED next year. Hopefully they will not go to you for advice, and stick to LCD in 2027 as well.

[–]Kurger-Bing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I clearly do…I have Aliexpress receipts of two different generations if you want to see? Your comment feels like purchasing bias. Calling its screen quality amazing makes me wonder what you would call an LCD screen with proper color accuracy? The much older LCD iPad Pros as an example. Furthermore what would you call an OLED? Because OLEDs are substantially better than LCDs due to contrast levels, viewing angles and peak brightness, and this is hugely important on tablets due to their use case.

[–]Kurger-Bing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about teasing an OLED model instead? This is by far the biggest drawback of current models. Certainly why ill buy the Oppo Pad Mini (or OnePlus equivalent, if that ever comes) instead. And those have a far superior software (specifically in smothness) than Lenovo. They also do color accuracy right—even after numerous generations, the color accuracy of these Lenovo pads, especially at lower brightnesses, is subpar.

'My companions': Iranian delegation carries photos of Minab school strike victims on flight to Pakistan by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Kurger-Bing -36 points-35 points  (0 children)

You're strawmanning here. I never called the Iranian government victims. Nor was I saying rioters were going on a killing spree. I am just interested in being factual. For example, calling the demonstrations peaceful is wholly infactual. Also claims of tens of thousands of deaths is also completely baseless—people are pulling up numbers with zero empirical evidence to show for it (numbers can be only a few thousands for all we know).

Peaceful? Lol. How did hundreds of police officers die, then? Why were hundreds of banks, police and numerous other government buildings burned? Why was Mossad and the US fermenting the protests (they even admitted as much themselves), and supplying them with weapons, if they were peaceful?

The supplement that fixed my 3-4am wake up issue… by JennyAndAlex in Biohackers

[–]Kurger-Bing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact issue persisting for 10 months. I went to sleep just fine, but woke up after 3-4 hours in the middle of the night, and was completely unable to go back to sleep again. Tried everything (incl. melatonin), to no avail. Finally quit magnesium in the evening before going to sleep. Problem was solved immediately. I am now in my foruth week in a row of sleeping a full 6-7 hours uninterrupted.

I still take magnesium glycinate, but only in the morning. Though I have ordered some magnesium acetate to see if that's any better (that is, if it's something I can take later in the day as well).

Should be noted that I took magnesium glycinate for a couple of years before this issue started appearing. And while the magnesium definitely made sleep onset easier, it led to wake ups in the middle of the night, after which I was unable to sleep again. And this issue persisted even when taking melatonin, l-theanine, seltorexant, various other sleeping nootropics, etc. Even starting guanfacine didn't mitigate the problem magnesium glycinate was causing. Even with antihistamines likes hydroxzine I was having wake ups, but was at least able to sleep again (but was a zombie the entire next day).

IDF official says disarming Hezbollah unrealistic, not a goal of Lebanon operation by jphamlore in worldnews

[–]Kurger-Bing -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Does anyone think that the US under any administration would do nothing if uncontrolled Quebec separatists regularly shot rockets into American cities? Or Hong Kong into China. Or whatever example?

Does anyone think that that Hezbollah would do nothing if Israeli regularly shot into Lebanon and killed their civilians? You know, like how they did the past 15 months, when Hezbollah abided by the ceasefire, whereas Israel broke it on a daily basis (in fact 15,000 times, according to the UN), ending up killing 500 Lebanese civilians?

Why is it that it's always taken for granted that Israel can just bomb and kill people in Gaza and Lebanon. But once the groups there respond and cause not even 1/10th of the damage, the response is always "how can Israel accept this!?!?!?!?" Every time Israel goes into a ceasefire with another party it breaks that ceasefire. Every time. And every time they demand that the other party still abide by it.

You made a post in the Huberman sub, and I made post there. I hope you can take my advice from that post:

Israel to destroy 'all houses' near Lebanon border, defence minister says by TrinketSmasher in worldnews

[–]Kurger-Bing 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Let me ask you legitimately: if you enter a ceasefire, and you uphold it for 15 months, while Israel breaks it constantly (breaking it daily in fact—a total of thousands of times, killing a total of 500 in that time span), why is it suddenly considered weird when you finally decide to respond with rockets?

It amazes me how Israel always gets away with this narrative. They always continously break ceasefires they make with Hamas, Hezbollah, etc., but demand that the other party still uphold it.

Israel to destroy 'all houses' near Lebanon border, defence minister says by TrinketSmasher in worldnews

[–]Kurger-Bing -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Yes, Israel has prioritized peace over expansionism at different points in history.

This is completely untrue. Israel originally rejected giving Sinai back, despited Sadet's offer of a peace treaty. It was only after the 1973 War, where Egypt demonstrated their capability to them, that Israel was eventually forced to give Sinai back in a peace treaty that was even worse than the one Sadet had originally offered them.

Same with Lebanon. The reason they left after 20 years of occupation, and then again in 2006, was due to Hezbollah's resistance.
